I would like to try raw for a while and see if it's all it's cracked up to be. I would like some help planning a diet.
Here are the foods I plan on eating, based on what I have found to be available.
Apples -Grocery store has organic ones, though I suspect they have been frozen in transit as they sometimes taste and feel "old." Is that bad?
Pears - Occasionally available
Carrots - Available all that time a grocery store
Watercress - occasionally when the grocery has the organic stuff not yet
wilted
Kiwi - Available almost all the time
Avocados - Organic available sometimes, though I usuallly get non-organic
ones, as I understand avocados retain little of the bad stuff used
to grow them.
Flax seeds - available all the time. I grind them up and put in shakes
Mixed greens - 4oz plastic tubs are usually available at the grocery store.
Raw Honey - It's called "Honey in the Rough." Is this a good raw food?
Almonds - I can probably find some organic ones.
That's about it really. Is that enough to get started? I might buy some coconut oil as it is supposed to be very good for you and I am thinking about hemp protein as I like to workout.
Right now I want to lose fat and no muscle, you know, get as ripped as possible. I workout regularly, but cannot do cardio for a while, until I get my knees healed through physical therapy. I weigh about 185 at 6' 1/2" and I fit in to 33-34" pants and I have a good amount of muscle. About how much protein do I need? I have always heard on the order of 1gm per lb bodyweight, but from what I have read on here I would need maybe 50 grams tops. Is that reasonable?
Are there any cautions about starting out raw, any easy to find(on the internet perhaps?) foods that I should add? It seems that nuts and seeds would be a good thing to find on the internet as they don't spoil like greens do. Is it possible to get too much fiber? I made a shake the other day, a huge one with over 600 calories. It was welll over a quart. I am pretty sure it had over 30 grams of fiber in it, mostly due to a whole avocado and 3 tablespoons of flax seeds. That's about a third of the calories I need for a day, yet the RDA for fiber is 20-something grams. At that rate I would be eating almost 100 grams of fiber a day. Is that bad?
It seems like I am going to have to eat a lot to do this. One thing I wonder about. If raw does allow your body to digest better, maybe we need fewer calories, so the 2000 a day guideline may be way more than enough. Any thoughts on that, and perhaps examples of your daily caloric intake?
