View Full Version : Acid Reflux?

I have a question that I hope you can help me with.
My husband has as long as he can remember suffered from acid reflux to the point that the doctors has suggested an operation. Some time ago he found out that he also had helicobacters so he ate a whole bunch of different pills for it. Since then the acid reflux has been a little bit better but far from good.
He has now decided to try raw food himself (he's been doing it for a week now) before that he was vegetarian for some time. So now he don't want to take any pills when he suffers ...
Anyway, is there anything that I should know about to help him, maybe even make the acid reflux go away? Is there any foods that he should avoid being on raw? or combining different things?
Thanks in advance!

I don't know anything about the acid reflux, Tanja. But I do want to quickly say that you must be a wonderful example of the raw food lifestyle since your husband is now heading that way. Big "YAY" to you!!

Aloe vera juice is awesome for acid reflux. My best friend had acid reflux for years ... slept in a lounge chair because she couldn't lie down to sleep due to the severity of her acid reflux.
Being on a raw diet will definitely help, but whenever your husband has a flare up, have him take aloe vera juice. It's worked for me and my sons the few times we've had heart burn or acid reflux.
He can take 1 TBS. straight or mix it with juice. What I do is take a shot glass, put half aloe and half water and shoot it! :D

qetta: LOL well I don't know about that.. but it's pretty amazing that he is trying. When we met he could have been the posterboy for "big-meat-eaters" :D Just transfering to a vegetarian diet was a HUGE step for him. So I'm REALLY impressed and proud :)
Nutrimom: thanks for the tip! Will definetly look into that! Do you have a brand that you recommend? Does it help straight away or is it something that you need to take on a regular basis (to start with)?

Tanja - (off topic) how did you get him to go veg? My husband is a big meat eater now. (You can send me a private message if you don't want me to hog your thread!)

It works immediately for me. I have a morning vitamin drink which includes a TBS of aloe into it, so I never really have problems. But when I used to eat pizza or a dish with a lot of tomato sauce, I would get heartburn and the swig of aloe would settle it down immediately.
I do know that you can find cold-pressed aloe at health food stores. :)

Hi! I have had acid reflux for years and have been on a prescription drug for it for 2. The 1st day I changed to a raw diet I did NOT have to take the meds. I have only taken it once since I started this About 2 weeks ago. I had eaten and orange and an avacado that day for breakfast. I have had these 2 foods since then and no problems! Believe me I used to die of discomfort from acid reflux. So I'm really thrilled!

Hi,
I have been doing raw only for 2 weeks now, and I noticed tonight after I had cooked soup for dinner that I had heart burn BAD....I believe that raw, when you combine your food right, will get rid of your problem. You may need to establish your colon flora. Get some good probiotics and some cultured vegies...raw of course...and take those for a while and see if it helps.
Good Luck,
Therese :)
