I just love fruit as a general rule. . .I can't think of one fruit that I don't like. . .but if someone asked me which fruit I couldn't live without it would have to be apples. . . .I usually eat at least one everyday (some days several) and there is just something about them that leaves me with this overwhelming feeling of health and wellness.
Fruitarianone - welcome to this board! Glad to have you here.

Oh goodness my favorite fruit is the mango. The taste is so unique. It isn't around all year (like bananas and apples, which I also love), so that makes me love it MORE because it's harder to get. And, they are BIG and they take a long time to cut and eat. There is nothing in this world like a perfect mango. :p

I love mangos too! I always feel like a kid when I eat them coz they are so messy and the juice runs down my forearms and my mouth is all messy!! :)
Hi,
Welcome!! I love apples and ripe ripe organic pears--they are my top 2. YUM!! I guess I eat what is in season. Since i live in the Northeast--it is limited. I do love grapes, mangoes, and pinapple. I wish i could eat bananas but they always hurt my belly.

Mango's are my favorite food in the world.
they are sweet and luscious and sexy and exotic.
I was blessed to be eating these all my life since my
mom is Vietnamese. I have turned many of my friends onto
them, and they have never had them before!

Sorry guys!!!! :) but how do I turn my signiture into a link???
Welcome Frutarianone! I "think" I recognize you from another board if you're the same person I have in mind!
The easiest way to hyperlink the link in your siggy is to:
1. Go into your User CP and choose "Edit Signature" from the options
2. Once there, you'll see the text box and little icons and other toolbar-type options...one of them will look like a little blue globe with a chainlink right in front of it...click on that.
3. You will then be prompted to enter the TEXT you want which is what it will say in your sig so if it's the URL you want, then type that...if you want it to say, "Visit my site", type that..whatever you want.
4. Once you click the submit button, another box will pop up asking for the actual URL to the site you're linking to...provide that.
Save and you're all set!
As for favorite fruit...I'd have to say the classic banana because it's so versatile. I mean, I can eat it as it is, make ice cream out of it, make the shell for Alissa's Strawberry crepes, eat it with almond butter for a treat, chop it up into my raw oats, and more!
A semi-soft, juicy pear would come in second...after that, then grapes...after that, pretty much ALL fruit except the exotic ones I haven't tried yet! :D

I forgot about melons too; I love them all but I really adore honeydew melons.
So my favorite in mangos, with a close 2nd between honeydew melon
and cherries...I can and do eat a whole bag of cherries when in season.
I love all fruit though....so hard to pick.

Hurray for bananas!
I also dig comice pears, mangoes, grapes, really good strawberries in season, crenshaw melons, cherries, guavas, pineapples, cherimoyas...so many to list.
It changes with the season. There is no way I could enjoy an apple in the summer, but in the fall, wow!
Can't eat peaches in the winter, but in the middle of summer, look out!

Well... all fruits are my favorites! But if I have to narrow that down a bit I'd have to say strawberries, raspberries, blackberries, grapes, watermelon, mango, papaya, banana, and dates for a dried fruit. Fresh figs are wonderful too. Okay, that is a long list but my diet is probably close to 75% fruit now so of course I love them all!

Hands down................watermelon. But I realy love all fruit. I love Fuji apples and really great sweet dark cherries. Last summer at Costco I got some of the best cherries ever. Not organic, but still outstanding. If you've never bought Costco cherries, they're wonderful and they come in a huge tub! The grapes are great too!!!

Right now it's the Peach. Don't ask me how they have tree-ripe peaches at this time of the year, but they are GOOD!!!!! (and expensive @ $6.99/lb). All summer I tried peaches and they were awful, now they are WONDERFUL.
Cantaloupe would be my next favorite. I think because it is so juicy and large. I cut it up into pieces and take it to work and they last all morning. It tastes so refreshing!!!! The last 3 I bought this week I had to throw out. I think the season has finally come to the end.
I have just ordered some organic freshly tree picked oranges and Satsumas. Can't wait!!!! They should be here today or tomorrow. http://flnaturalcitrus.com/

#1 fave is good organic raspberries. I grow all different color ones, red, white, black, purple, yellow... they're awesome.
Also love mangoes, fresh picked organic strawberries, and would love to live somewhere figs grow to have those fresh too. If I'm ever on holiday somewhere they're in season, I eat insane amounts of those, like 10 a day.

Favorite fruit would be Cherimoya--season is just starting and I have 3 beauties on my counter ripening. Next is Red Raspberries--could eat until I explode. Third is mango and papaya--tied. I really love most fruit and pretty much rotate the variety by what is in season and what I feel like eating.
I am sad to have discovered so late in the season how much I adore seeded grapes. I missed out on most all of them. The flavor is so awsome I don't know why I minded the seeds and never bought them. Won't make that mistake next year!
Fruitarianone, I also can live on watermelon (and some greens) when they are in season. The out of season ones must not have whatever my body wants.
Why? I don't know why. My body says "gimmee gimmee", so I give it. Then somethime every afternoon it would say "enough" then it wanted greens. Those were the days. Guess I'll live till they come around again. Of course the best thing would be to follow the watermelon season wherever on earth it happens to be at the time.
Hey, Gosia ... where are you? Is it watermelon season down under?

When I was growing up I had access to a farm in Michigan with 5 acres of blueberries, a peach orchard and a bunch of bosc pear trees (lots of other stuff, too.)
I remember picking blueberries for hours & have nothing to show for it except my full tummy & no appetite for dinner :) But I almost never can get blueberries as delicous as those were so they are not my favorite.
There were days that I would walk through the orchard & pick the perfect peach, warm from the sun, wipe off the fuzzies on my jeans & chomp into it -- with juice dripping onto my shirt (forever leaving a stain). So peaches are my almost favorite...
My dad used to put me in the bucket of an earthmover tractor & hoist me up into the pear tree -- they always remind me of that memory so they are another almost favorite...
But my real favorite is MANGO!!!! They are so tasty, sweet & juicy & tangy & beautiful & smell great & feel good in your hand & fun to cut up & etc.... but the true reason I love them is because I knew my future husband really loved me when he brought me a perfect mango -- just because he know I would enjoy it... :p

Persimmons win hands down in my book. Either kind makes me happy!
I also love Rambutan when I can get it. After that watermelon, pineapple, big juicy organic grapes and strawberries.
Winter looks like a lot of fuji apples, organic oranges from the farmers market, bananas and dates. I rarely find a pear that I like. I used to rave about mangos but this year they just didn't call to me. So strange how that works!

Durian!!!!
(Don't throw things at me, okay. Well, unless they're durian -- and even then I'd need to prepare by donning a coat of armor! I know this is the fruit most loved/hated.)
I'm just currently in a durian phase. Oh - and Fuyu persimmons, crunchy and just the right sweetness.
My tastes change as my body's needs change. Bananas are currently not welcome. I've tried several times but the tummy says NO!
Cute little thread, by the way.

Oh, how I adore fruit! When I was a kid, my mom hardly ever bought fresh fruit, or veggies for that matter. So I never developed a taste for fruit, until I was grown and began choosing my own food. Even then, it wasn't until I started on the raw foodn path that I really made fruit a large part of my diet. Now, I can't imagine a day without fruit.
There's simply no way I could possibly narrow down a favorite to only one fruit! I love them all, with the only exception being bananas. I just don't care for them at all. Not even in smoothies. The taste and the texture just don't appeal to me. I do love plantains, however. They taste WAY different than regular bananas. I let them get really ripe, until the skin is black, and the flesh is nice and soft. YUM!
If really pressed for a few favorites, I would have to say the top of my list would be persimmons (both kinds), and fresh figs. Sadly, fresh fig season is over, but persimmon season is in full swing. I am lucky enough to be able to get them for only 50 cents a pound, and believe me, I eat pounds and pounds of them every week! I never, ever tire of their delicious taste, and wonderful texture.
I won't even try to list other favorites, it would be way too long :) Just say I love pretty much all fruits, except the aforementioned banana.

I'll reserve judgement on the durian ( hands it off to RT.. have at it, girl!)... I've recently tried a persimmon. It didn't go well.
What are they supposed to taste like?
One of my faves: Juicy STAR FRUIT!
Most fun fruit: POMEGRANATE
Most versatile: BANANA
Messiest: WATERMELON
Sweetest: HONEYDEW ( remember Sam's Mountain Dew ? )

LOL Renee,
I love Persimmon's but you really need to know what's up.
There are 2 types. One is very astringent...and have to be totally
soft and ripe (like a really ripe tomato)
or will leave a nasty puckering taste in your mouth
that is absolutely awful...which I found out the hard way.
Last year I bought some since I remember loving them as a child
when my mom gave me some. I was like what the heck, this is dreadful...
so read up on them on the net, and called my mom and she explained.
The other type (Fuyu? ) one can eat like an apple-firm instead of soft like a tomato and there is
no astringent taste to worry about. I just picked some up at Costco
and my boys and I loved them.
ReneeSC
12-11-2005, 06:05 PM
Ahhhh... thank you, Punky! I think mine wasn't ripe enough. I'd love to be able to eat them like apples/tomatoes. Alissa listed them as one of her mono meals in her book.. so I was really curious about them.

I simply cannot answer this question. I love mangoes. And I love watermelon. And persimmons. And blueberries. And cherries. And apples. And bananas. And grapes. And figs. Basically, anything that is yummy! I suppose, anything that is ripe and sweet. I am a fruit-polygamist, without a tie with any particular type of fruit.

Renee -- you'll love the Fuyu persimmon. It's the one that's flat rather than having a point at the bottom. As mentioned, you eat it when it's firm -- do not wait till it's soft. Just eat it out of hand -- crunchy and oh so sweet!! Yumski!
And . . . thanks for the durian! I'll take it anytime.
ReneeSC
12-11-2005, 10:53 PM
Okay.. Fuyu It Is!!
calee
12-12-2005, 09:54 AM
The Fuyu Persimmon is terrific when it's crunchy, and I think equally as good when it gets a little softer. When it gets softer, the skin tends to get a little tougher to protect the inside. Inside becomes creamy and sweet in a way that's unlike any other fruit I've tasted. I guess I adore the persimmon no matter what. It's always tough to let the globe one ripen until it's soft enough to eat without that astringent taste. The woman at the farmer's market told me to put them in the freezer, let them freeze completely then thaw and eat and it won't be as astringent.
