Here is an alternate method of grinding that was posted by one of our members a not too long ago: http://www.elise.com/recipes/archives/001357tip_blender_and_mason_jar.php

Not all vanilla is created equal...Frontier brand with no alcohol is best.

Oat groats are the whole oat before it's processed, rolled, etc. and resemble other whole grains such as wheat berries, etc. You can find them at whole food/natural food stores.

Unless the oat groats say "sproutable", they have been steamed to prevent spoilage! Even the ones in Health food stores. The manufactures I have contacted about this say they have to steam them or they will go rancid on the shelf as they aren't like other grains that are shelf stable, and I have talked to many manufactures looking for sproutable oats. The key word to ask for here is "sproutable oat groats".

A friend tried to soak and sprout the oat grouts I gave her (thought they were raw) and they just splintered and went funny. They were definitely NOT raw. These were whole oats purchased from a bulk food place, same place I buy my wheat for sprouting. I've heard that before too, that oats go off too quickly and that they are always steamed. I think I'll just stay away from them.

A friend started making raw oatmeal cookies (like Juliano's recipe but with dates) and put on 3 kilos... with no other changes to diet. Now she didn't eat enough to cause that weight gain... I think it's just a side effect of cooked grains.

Quick test to see if they are raw - if soaked overnight then left do they sprout tails? Mine don't.

Cheers,

Check out Alissa's store. She sells sproutable oat groats if you want them.
