Ok, I know we shouldn't worry about quanitites or calories or whatnot, but I'd like to have a whole avocado tonight...is that just too much for one person?
Is there a way to have half of one and keep it from going off in the fridge?
Thanks!

i have 1-2 avocadoes a day! quanity really depends on you. i LOVE avocadoes and am willing to forsake other fats i.e. nuts, oil in order to partake in my daily avocado ritual!
i have split an avocado in two and what i normally do is leave the pit in the side i'm saving and put lemon on the avocado so it doesn't brown...i then put the skin from the used side of the avocado (so it looks whole again) and then wrap that in plastic wrap! looks just like new the next day!

Here is one calculation for an avo: HERE (http://www.calorie-count.com/calories/item.php?item_id=9038&size=2)
It's up to you whether it's too much or not.
If you are trying to eat certain percentages, it will balance out if you, for example, keep this your only fat of the day (or calculate your fat desires and see where/how this avo fits in and adjust the rest of your fat intake accordingly).
As well, cutting your fat tomorrow or later in the week can serve to balance you, if that's what you're aiming.
You could also run an extra mile or do an extra 20-30 minutes of fat-burning exercise.
Just don't feel "guilt" over eating something so nutritious! :)
Enjoy your avo.
Best,
Oh, and you can freeze avos! However, leaving the pit in and squeezing some fresh lemon or lime juice over the flesh and refrigerating, works everytime for me -- some say it doesn't work for them, but I've found it works for me.

A whole avocado is FINE! I ate a WHOLE coconut tonight, a lot of a creamy nut dressing for lunch and some almond butter on top of sesame seed bread. I am a-ok and getting better and healthier by the day!!

Secret Heart if you are trying to watch your fat intake you can eat the whole thing today and then reduce your intake tomorrow. A lot of folks do that - so they don't have to be overly strict - they just make up for it one day or the other.
As long as it equals out in the end you're good.
Oh - I just noticed jaurequi wrote that already!

Just curious.....do you guys think raw fats (1 avocado)=160kcal are any different than raw sugars (2 apples)=160kcal????? Really, your body NEEDS fats and needs energy. Unless you eat 2000+ kcal per day or COOK your fats, which I doubt, I don't think it matters where the calories come from. In fact if I eat the same number of calories in fat vs. sugar (fruit), the fats keep me fuller longer and my blood sugar more steady (thus I never get hungry) than sugars which I feel hungry instantly afterwards. If fats were fattening, people wouldn't ask me if I were anorexic and I wouldn't weigh so little......humm......so don't lose sleep over an avocado please!! Didn't we just have this discussion a little while ago and didn't Alissa say just eat raw?????
Also doesn't avocado have lipase in it which burns fat?????? Please, just eat raw and enjoy the food without obsession. If you feel nauseous, cut back on fats. Until then, eat until satisfied.

I think your body will let you know if you've had too much avocado. For me, though I might want more than one a day, I try to keep it around there because my tummy will hurt a bit if I go overboard. In terms of the whole fat discussion though I think that avocado might be the most nutritious fat you can include in your diet, since its unrefined! I think they're a food with the X-factor, where I'd consider them a spiritual food with amazing healing properties. This isn't something measured in a text book but is in the energy of the food if you tune into it. I would hands down choose an avocado over a banana because its not hybridized sugar!! It also has more vitamins and minerals (than a banana) and is a beautifying food. Eat your avocado girl and enjoy every bite :)

I look at avacado's and all whole foods as gifts from god. If they weren't good for you, he wouldn't have made them. I think when you get too hung up in worrying about this or that in foods it's because it's the old "triggers" from the days of eating cooked foods. Back when you ate cooked food you probably ate avacados with chips or on a sandwitch with mayo. But in it's natural state.....just ejoy it. Trust your body. It wil tell you if it's too much. I always know when I've hit my fat limit. Your body won't let you over do if you listen to it.

You guys are right. I agree that God provided food for our enjoyment in abundance when we are hungry. I also believe that we should be able to follow our body.
Sometimes, though, in transtition many of us can't read our body's signals for hunger or what kind of food we want when we are still hooked on certain SAD foods. Sometimes it takes a while to get used to the way we are supposed to feel, which is probably why we use so much fat and dehydration in the beginning stages of our raw diets.
Also there are a handful of people who really do need to be mindful of their fat intake for different health reasons. Just like certain people can't eat certain fruits which may trigger candida symptoms. It's not always so cut and dry.
I also believe that God provided fruit originally to be eaten in abundance, but avocadoes in particular are never ripe until days after they fall off the tree. My friend has a tree and they drop off one by one, maybe 5 of so every day and they are still hard. She puts them in a bag, and gives them to me, it's funny that she doesn't like avocadoes herself.
So, in nature, you can't really eat avocadoes fresh from the tree as they are hard. In the nomadic era, it probably would have been impossible to stop by an avocado tree and eat until full since the fruit is so hard.
I believe that most people don't really worry or get upset or militant about cutting the fat in their diets, most of the ones I know *want to* because it makes them feel better. If it doesn't work for them, then they just try something else.
All in all, I agree that out of all the fattier raw foods out there, avocado is probably the best, as it's fresh and not a concentrated or dehydrated fat, like nuts and oils.
Sunshine I don't think any scientist ever found out just how many vitamins and minerals are in all fruits and vegetables. Raw food is too complex for the scientific eye. I don't believe that any one raw food contains more or less nutrients than another. They are all very different, but unique. I don't personally subscribe to the hybrid theory, but to each his and her own! Whatever works for you.

When a good batch of avocados are in the store, I'll stock up on them. For awhile, I was eating at least 3 a day. Probably a little too much, it is AMAZING what it does to your skin though. I've always heard avocados are good for healthy skin, but I had never seen such a drastic change in such a short time. I ate probably 3 a day for about 3 or 4 days and my skin had a completely different complexion. People around me even noticed and asked what I did to make my skin so nice. My skin wasn't really bad to begin with, just "average," but after my feast of avocados it was so smooth and clear it almost looked fake.

Listen to your body, if you want to eat a whole avocado then that's ok if you feel you want to stop halfway through then stop your not doing your stomach any favours by over eating :) hope that helped.

I love them too much to put half in the fridge. I pass over the olive oil and nuts ANYTIME there are ripe avos around. I usually eat one for dinner, sometimes two. Just make sure you eat them with greens, tomatoes, maybe some citrus ONLY, no sugar afterwords, and NEVER eat them with oil, nuts or seeds. You'll be FINE!!! :D I always remember to eat ONE fat at at time.

I don't think excess fat is good, but whats so wrong with adding a "small" amount of another fat with them? I have taken a nutrition class, and if you look at the different vitamins and minerals, no one nut, seed, fruit, or vegetable covers all categories. So IMO, it seems "safe" to eat a combination of foods from those categories. Unless you find for digestive purposes certain foods don't mix well together in a sitting (which is an issue with some but not all), I say go ahead and eat a variety. I do know that you body uses different pH's for starches and proteins, but haven't read that 2 fats don't combine.

I have just learned recently about the benefits of adding the avocado pit to smoothies, as an enhanced "bad" cholesterol reducer. While I am having touble finding info on this anywhere else on the web, and it does sound rather radical, I tend to believe this logic. Check it out on the following site (the one place I've heard about it):
http://www.qigong.com/food-healing-philosophy.htm
I have been trying it with other fruits & veggies, using the 3 hp blender recommended & it's not bad (though it is a bit bitter if you just use the pit & a little water) :eek!

Some believe avocados are the perfect food - God's butter!
I eat at least one every day - eating good fats does not make you fat!
I also supplement with Udo Oil, Hemp Oil, Coconut Oil
I am 6'2" - 170 lbs - and loving it! In the past two year I have lost 50 pounds.
Eat lots of good fat and lots of veggies and a little protein - if you want to cut calories - reduce the sugars.

Avo pits are the only plant material that I know of that you can not add to the compost heap.
If the composter is not capable of breaking it down then what chance have we.

Just checked this site out.
I like the claims that women who blend high silica fruit can gain 5% bone density per year.
I must check to see what else has lots of silica and am considering freezing lots of cucumbers for winter use.

Composter won't compost the pit? -Hence the 3 HP blender... (sorry, just learning how to thread replies)
In reply to Sport.
I've been doing them for a couple weeks now in smoothies; no adverse effects. My newest cholesterol test was yesterday, so we'll see if any results are found already.
