View Full Version : Today is my 30-day raw anniversary!

I stuck with it for 30 days and am going to continue. I'm still learning to keep it simple -- too many blended recipes didn't appeal to us and we were wasting money. But I LOVE that I can eat desserts! The banana ice cream and chocoloate mousse are my favorites so far, and I eat them for snacks.
I've lost 2 1/2 pounds that I know of ... I was afraid to weigh myself at the beginning. I'm eating a lot and listening to my body: Eat when hungry, stop when full.
My energy is better except when I'm detoxing or when I get so excited about having energy that I use it all up doing too many things. It's not so great today because I got exposed to perfume yesterday and had a bad reaction (I'm chemically sensitive). Just the fact that I can prepare meals is a big deal -- I didn't have enough energy on cooked to do that.
My husband is supportive of my decision. He still wants some cooked foods, but he mainly eats them at work. I'm not tempted in the least when he eats them at home.
Thanks to everyone who encouraged me along the way. Now that I know we'll be doing this for Christmas, I could use some more tips. :)

Can you tell me more about it, Tim? I am interested! Where do I sign up? I don't want to go back to cooked food.
Do you have any tips for the holidays? I don't want to do more mock turkey loaf, mashed potatoes, etc.

Here's some information about the 90-day challenge: http://www.rawfoodtalk.com/forum/showthread.php?t=8269 Follow this link.
Kmik is organizing it this time.
Also I do have some tips for the holidays:
1. Eat raw food when you're hungry. Don't let yourself be hungry during the holidays.
2. Never go anywhere without raw food going with you. This isn't a good season to slip up in.
3. Experiment with Alissa's recipes. They are awesome! The food is just delicious!
4. Ask for help when you need it.
5. Participate in the rawfoodtalk.com discussion boards.
Hope this helps!!

Thanks for the info, Tim. So far, so good. The only thing I'm worried about is AFTER the holidays. We're going to visit our daughter for a week. I'm planning on taking crackers, fruit leather, cookies, etc., and buying fresh fruits and veggies there. I'm afraid I'll be a dull guest because she'll want to take us out to eat and cook for us, etc. Oh, and I'm going to bring Alissa's book with me. Anything else I should do? This will be my first real test since I went raw.

I'm not a "you should do this" person. These are only suggestions. I hope you understand what I mean. :).
Suggestion...When ever I go some place I make sure I take my food with me. This includes the fruits and the veggies too. The reason? Well I don't trust having a good store to purchase food. I just want to make it safe. Take that for what it's worth. This is just what I do.
You could practice making a couple of gourmet raw meals to cook for your daughter. These meals are really good, and most SAD foodist like them. If you haven't made any recipes let me suggest the Fettuccini Alfredo, and Chile with onion dip, and Pizza, and Rye Bagels, and date nut torte, and I could go on.
Another thought is that you could bring Alissa's DVD with you. That may help and inspire others. She's a great cook, and does a wonderful job on the DVD.
You could make sure you bring your commitment and determination with you. After all I'm assuming you're doing raw for you first right? Don't let anyone else get you down.
I hope these help.

Thanks, Tim. I have been using Alissa's book and I like the Angel Hair Pasta with Marinara Sauce. Oh, and the Pear, Beet, and Jicama salad is SO good. Several of the desserts have been winners. Those are great suggestions! Unfortunately, I didn't buy the DVD, just the book.
OMG, I had a nightmare last night that I gave in to some gooey breakfast rolls while I was traveling. I was SO glad to wake up!
Yes, I'm doing raw for ME, so I will stay determined. :)

Good for you Deb. The Angel Hair Pasta with M.S. is really good. Looks like you're discovering the recipes just fine.
If you want to learn how to make like other foods in her book, you may want to consider the DVD. It's $29.99, and well worth it.
Regarding the nightmare, I used to have those. I actually think it's a good sign. Hard to deal with, but good. I think it's just your body's way of saying, "Hey wait a minute, I don't recognize this path I'm going down. Turn back so I can be comfortable." :). These go away with time though. I can't even remember when I had my last one. More than 2 months ago for sure.
Sounds like you have a solid determination. That's what it takes. Remember if you have a chance, take some time to celebrate your victories. It's really important.

Hey Deb...I missed your ACTUAL 30-day day...but still wanted to chime in and say CONGRATULATIONS!!!
Thank you, Rawkinlocs. I saw my doctor this week and my BP and heart rate were PERFECT! Normally, my BP is low and HR is high. And I've lost 5 pounds. So he gave the raw food his blessing. :)
I don't have a lot of energy right now, so I can't exercise. I'm hoping that will pass.
