Hello! I am sprouting for the 1st time. Everything seems to be coming along
well. I got a Sprouthouse from sprouthouse.com and am sprouting
a salad mix (alfalfa, clover, radish and canola?).
My question is, today I notice a few of the sprouts had some white fuzz
on them. Is this mold? or suppose to be there and ok to eat?
I rinse twice a day like the directions said to.
I did soak the seeds initially overnight too.
What I didn't do was soak in bleach water like the directions said the FDA
recommeded...that just seemed ick to me. I would perhaps soak
in food grade hydrogen peroxide if I had some, but didn't have
any so skipped that part and just used water with kelp fertilizer bought
at same place...is this actually necessary to soak in bleach or hydrogen
peroxide???!?!?
Thanks in Advance!

I read somewhere that the fuzz is supposed to be there- and it happens every time I sprout too.. (think I read it somewhere on the sproutpeople.com site) oh, and I don't think the bleach is necessary.. Good Luck!
... I'm still perfecting my sprouting skills :p

thanks NoGMO!
I thought I read somewhere about the fuzz too but couldn't remember.
Ya, I didn't think the bleach was necessary...probably just a precaution
from the FDA...
My kids are so excited to check the sprouts each day to see
what is different; hope they will try eating some when they are ready ;)
one can hope.

the fuzz are the small roots and it is fine unless it smells bad then dont eat it.

From what I understand, excessive fuzz is the result of not changing the water often enough or keeping the sprouts too warm...

they don't smell bad and have actually gone away.
My sprouts are ready for consumption; thanks everyone for your responses.
I think they have turned out well for my first batch. No mold or anything
funky. Just a lot of hulls...
My boys found them fascinating to watch grow but have NO interest
in actually eating them, LOL. So that leaves A lot of sprouts form me
to eat....probably 5 pints of them!
