Hello everyone! I have been lurking here for a few months and just hadn't gotten around to registering so that I could post.

I am due to have my fourth child in 11 days. I have been a vegan (McDougall style) for over 9 years. I went raw a few months ago. I am still a little nervous about doing this while pregnant but I sure feel great and have noticed some huge differences in my energy levels etc..

One thing though, that is really bothering me is that the last few days I have been waking up in the middle of the night starving. I don't want to get up and eat because I get terrible heartburn if I lie back down right away. I don't know if my body is gearing up for the birth and all of a sudden wanting more calories or what.

I haven't had this problem since I started it has just been recently.

I was just curious if this is a normal part of the process. I am eating pretty much the same amount of food during the day and am well satisfied but during the night feel so hungry that I am sick to my stomach.

Any ideas?

Thanks,
Tracy

First of all....GOOD FOR YOU, for going raw. I still struggle with staying 100%, and I'm probably just as new here as you are! Just wondering maybe you need to eat something "heavier" at dinner time. Maybe a heavy pate or something with nuts in it. OR maybe a handful of nuts about 1/2 hour before bedtime? Maybe someone else has a better idea......sorry I couldn't be much help

I dont think it is a problem for you during birth; you can go to thegardendiet.com and read about Jinjee and her birth.
If you think you need more cals. then eat more. (maybe fats)
Dont let your birth be an excuse to not stay raw. We have many raw mommies here.

I've been doing really well with staying raw until lately. I am really craving a lot of my favorite cooked foods but I am afraid to have them for several reasons.

I have found myself thinking a lot about going back to eating high raw and eating one cooked meal a day with my family. Yet, I really feel so much better this way.

The hardest part for me is nuts. I have a very hard time digesting nuts. It doesn't matter if I soak them or whatever I cannot tolerate them. I have been eating Avocado a couple of times a day lately but since I have been doing that I am having terrible heartburn.

Here is what a typical day is like for me:

I start out the day with carrot, celery, spinach juice.

After awhile I have some sprouted buckwheat (I am gluten/wheat intolerant) blended up with flax and fruit. I top it with some fresh fruit.

For lunch I have a HUGE salad with Romaine lettuce, baby carrots, snap peas, tomatoes, avocados (lately) and raisins. I use fresh lemon juice and Bragg's on top for a dressing. Then I have 2 apples.

Lately I have been getting hungry for a snack in between lunch and dinner which is unusual for me. So I will usually eat a couple of bananas.

Dinner is usually another big salad either followed by more fruit or often more buckwheat blended with fruit.

If I am hungry before bed I will have fruit again.

Occasionally I will have some buckwheat bread I have made in the dehydrator but lately it is giving me terrible heartburn.

So that is a typical day. What do you think?

There has to be SOMETHING you can snack on (even if it's just some light juice) that will not cause heartburn. Apples or some other non-acidic fruit can make a great snack. A non-tolerance for nuts is not uncommon.

-Throughout the process of birth - may not be the best time to experiment or make wide changes in one's eating and exercise habits. These things are toxin-releasing & purging enough when NOT pregnant! :)
