I did a search and really couldn't come up with anything, so I was wondering if anyone knew how I could order Young Thai Coconuts. I doubt that any place around me would have them, and even if they did they would not be organic at all.
Any suggestions for websites that might carry them for a decent price?
Thanks so much!!
Also, I had another random question that has nothing to do with coconuts; is the nut milk bag from Alissa supposed to be so gigantic? I expected something small and recieved something I could easily carry my cat around in (not that she would enjoy that). Is this the normal size for nut milk bags?

You won't find organic young Thai coconuts except from one company, purefoodnetwork and they're mighty expensive. Theirs are the only ones that are not treated when they arrive here to go through customs where they're fumigated to kill any critters that may have arrived.
Yes, the nut milk bags are big -- have you used it yet? It needs to be big enough to hoild a lot since the milk takes a while to filter though the blended-up nuts.

Big nut bags would be cool since I use 2 regular sized ones to make
it drain faster.
I buy my young coconuts at the asian market; they are NOT organic...like Raw Truth says they are fumigated.

. . . you didn't ask, but I don't really have a problem with the fumigated coconuts. I believe the thick husk is not easily permeated. Heck, it takes a few blows of my machete to split one after I've drained the water. Others don't necessarily feel the same way, but I've never seen any study or test that shows that the chemicals get to the meat and water.
If you want to try the regular young Thai coconuts, they're sold in every Asian market that I've been in. Does your city/town/community have any?
Good luck!

if you don't have any Asian supermarkets near you, you could talk to your produce manager of your local grocery and ask them to get a case in for you. I have known of people doing this on many occasions. That way you don't have to pay shipping.

That is a great point.
I think I did see some at a nearby ShopRite, which surprised me at first, but they have a great organic produce section so hopefully finding them won't be a problem.

The Asian market in my city does not carry them. It's a very small market and I asked them and they said "only in Toronto" which is 2.5 hours away. :( I'm going to ask the grocery stores to order them for me and see what they say.

RFMom, when you ask, ask them to order a whole case for you, they are much more likely, since they've probably never even heard of them and don't want to deal with having to stock the rest.
You might also make it clear that they're not the regular coconuts. LOL the last time I was in your city was many years ago, we ordered bruschetta in a restaurant and they brought us two hot dog buns spread open with ragu sauce and the Kraft type parmesan cheese that comes from a can.

I did some searching and came up with one option for you (mail order).

They are non chemical treated and look delicious!
Right now I have 100+ young Australian coconuts in a giant box in my driveway - Australia is HEAVEN!!! I'm drinking them for water right now and LOVE it! We have two that are growing, so Saturday is the official day they get opened so we can experience the COCONUT APPLE - the formation that fills the inside when the coconut is ready to grow. Apparently it tastes like coconut flavoured cotton candy (fairy floss for the Australians). YUMMY!

Wow That sounds crazy! Could you take a photo of that coconut apple for us Sheryl?! How long does it take for a young coconut to do that? Can I buy one from my store and let it get to that point?
