:) Hi,
Does anyone know if chestnuts can be used raw?
I saw a cooking show where they were using chestnuts in varied ways but they were cooked and they said that they had a buttery taste and If they could be used raw they might be a good subtitute for cashews.
Thanks for the help.

i tried raw chestnuts a while ago and they were not very good, very chewy and dry with not much flavor. it may be this particular bunch of chestnuts though, so others might taste better. i'm really disappointed though, because i LOVE chestnuts.

I know someone (a non-raw fooder) who prefers chestnuts raw--she just cracks them open with her teeth and eats them.

Maybe soaking them and using them blended? Or making flour? I'm trying to figure this out too, since I have some chestnuts in my fridge . . .
