When on the raw food diet is light steaming considered unacceptable?
Of course you have to decide what is acceptable for you, as for "raw" it's not a matter of acceptability, but fact that when food is heated over approximately 110 degrees valuable enzymes and nutrients are destroyed.

steaming is considered cooking. I would add though, that if you must cook something, steaming is probably the healthiest form of cooking. Steaming and stirfrying are both at the top of the list for least destructive, as far as destroying enzymes go.
It is best to throw out any devices that would allow you to steam. I recently tossed my wok (very expensive one) in the trash. It was hard for me to do because I really liked it. As a vegan, I made very many meals with it. It had a steamer rack and everything.

Indeed, it is considered cooking. However, for many people, "raw" is not an "all or nothing proposition". Some people choose to eat some cooked foods, while eating most of their food raw. You have to decide if it is acceptable to YOU, not to anyone here. ;)

Your question is "when on the raw food diet" ~ not when I want to be half-stepping on the raw food diet. Soooo, IF you wish to totally engage in the raw food lifestyle, then steaming would not be considered part of it.
IF you choose to slowly transition, then, as Samuel says, it's is considered by many to be the least destructive although, if you ever put your hand over the steam (please don't), you'll see how extremely hot that water is and how many nutrients are lost not only in the water yet, in the steam itself.

there are raw methods for getting a similar effect, so for me I don't see any need. You can marinate, or marinate then put in the dehydrator a little. I often make raw "stir fry." Some things you can even "massage."
