View Full Version : fruit fermenting? Horrible stomach issues

I have heard that fruit is not good to eat at night. I'm addicted to apples and usually have a couple after dinner (at least 2 hours after my dinner).
Well lately I have woken up with a "sour" feeling in my stomach, gas and nausea.
Do you think this could be related to the fruit before bed? What do you have before bed as a snack, if anything? If I don't eat anything after dinner I'm ravenous by bedtime. Thanks so much for any suggestions!

I notice that if I eat fruit at night before bed I get really bloated and painful stomach gas. Eating late can cause food fermentation and in general is a less than ideal time to eat. I've tried to up my proportions of food, and eat a bit later in the evening (perhaps 7pm) so that I feel full longer. If you are hungry after you could substitute with some fresh juice or a cup of herbal tea. Both of those will do the ticket. If you want something just to substitute the fruit with for transition try celery or lettuce leaves. Lettuce has qualities that relax the body and will help you sleep. In general though I find that excess hunger comes from not eating enough nutrient dense foods.. Good luck! I can sympathize with you very much in having stomach issues... i'm working on mine as well. Thanks Sunshine for your advice...makes sense.
For dinner i usually have a salad (spinach, carrots, celery, tomato etc) and something else like zucchini pasta tossed with a bit of oil and spices, or maybe a cabbage mixture like Rawkinlocs stir-dry:> I'm not eating nuts at dinner usually...it's pretty light on the whole.
I've omitted onions previously 'cause they were bloating me..
Thanks for other suggestions that you might have!!

it just might be the cabbage mix. When I eat cabbage it makes me feel bloated and sick feeling sometimes.
I LOVEEEEEEEEE fruit!! esp. pears and apples. I find if I eat them after like 1 or 2 pm...I get bloated and gassy.... Although I love them I have had to try to stick to fruit alone in the AM until like 1 then salads and veggies until bed. I cannot even handle a fruit and veggie smoothie later in the day. So I can sympathize with your feelings. I had to try for one week to have no fruit at night and then see the results can you try that???

I've been getting intestinal pain too lately. I've been eating a lot of apples too.....hum.....
