I am taking my son and for the first time ever going ice skating at a rink in the mall. Out of my 27 years on this earth, I have never been ice skating in my life.
Looking forward to it.

Hi Jesdenm,
Did you go to the mall at UTC? I live in SD too, and have been to that rink, but not for many, many years.
I hope you have a wonderful time!

Yes UTC.
First time. I took my son. My mom went with and sat on the sidelines. I got him to go around once with me then he wanted out. He went and sat with her and I realized an amazing thing. I am a natural ice skater. I'm not a pro mind you, but I went around five times and fell once. I was going fast, didn't need to hold the walls, and was very sweaty by the time I was done. IT WAS SOOOO MUCH FUN. :D
What part of SD do you live in? I love it here. Been here (mainly East County) all my life.

I'm glad you had so much fun :) I was at Horton Plaza this afternoon, and I noticed that they have a temporary outdoor ice skating rink set up downtown. That sure would be fun, especially at night.
I live in Mira Mesa, but have lived all over San Diego at various times. I've been here since I was 4 years old, and I'm 42 now. I love it here, too, but my husband and I are looking to move somewhere else. The cost of living here has gotten so high, and we would like to be able to buy a house someday soon. Also it's gotten so crowded. Not the same town I grew up in, in lots of ways. I know I will miss San Diego dearly when I leave, but I just feel like it's time for me to move on.

WHAT!? When did a skating rink go in at UTC? I grew up in Mira Mesa and learned to skate at the rink down off Black Mountain road, been away for a long time... :) Love that you did that with your son. That is so awesome.

Wow - right now I live in Serra Mesa. Just moved out of East County in July. I couldn't move back out there. I will be saving up to buy a house out here. I have my mom living with me (I take care of her - she broke her back). Between the two of us and I am a first time home buyer, we should be able to do this. The housing market is horrible here. I have looked to moving elsewhere but I am staying a while longer.
I will definitely have to try the outdoor rink at Horton Plaza.
I do almost everything with my son. He has to try everything at least once. :)
It's the best thing I think I could ever do for him. Who knows, he just might like something he tries sometime - he definitely likes Celtic Music because of one tape I bought.

Ice skating caught my eye. My daughter was a competitive ice skater, turned hockey player.
She took her son ice skating for his first time at 18 months. He loved it, but after 40 minutes on the ice Julia felt it was time for him to come off. He cried and cried when she took the skates off. He's still the same at 27 months. He LOVES the ice.

awww - that is so cute. I love it when my son gets into things. It's great - he'll be eight soon and I still love watching him :)
