it calls for unsweetened cocoa or carob powder. i went to THREE different grocery stores and could find neither.
would carob morsels work, if i put them in the coffee grinder?
i was planning on making her chocolate cake as my dessert for tomorrow but now i don't know what to do.

What do the other ingredients look like? You you use a fruit instead to flavour it instead of a chocolate (i know kind of defeats the purpose)
I am not sure what carob morsels are? Like chips?? If they are hard and have a find grinder you may be right on.
Sorry couldn't really help

yeah, the morsels look like chocolate chips.
the ingredients for her flourless chocolate cake are:
1 1/2 C raw walnuts (unsoaked)
dash salt
8 pitted medjool dates, unsoaked
1/4C unsweetened cocoa or carob powder
1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
2 teaspoons water
1/2 C fresh raspberries, for garnish (optional)
i'm gonna try using the carob morsels, just grinding them up. i don't know that it'll be exact, though.

Whole Foods Market should have the carob powder in their bulk section.
It will probably be the toasted variety and not the raw type.
I buy the raw thru the internet. But in a jam I would use the toasted or
the unsweetened cocoa. Whole Foods would have the unsweetened cocoa
too in the baking isle. They should have a gourmet variety. Central Market too. Most grocery stores I think have the unsweetened cocoa in their baking
section. I am not familier with the carob morsels, but it sounds
like grinding them up might work quite well. Probably fresher too.
Good luck and let us know how it turns out. The cake sounds yummy.

Well after reading your post, I had to go look in my book for the recipe and make it. I whipped it up with regular cocoa powder. It was an easy recipe. The carob is a bit hard to find, raw. I have a health food store which carries it in bulk.
You may want to check the copyright on that, just in case you aren't allowed to post it.

Hi Jenna,
Thanks for the cake recipe, is that the entire recipe and what are the instructions for it?
If you can print out the rest of it I would be forever grateful if you are able to do so.
I have always wanted a flourless cake recipe.
HAPPY THANKSGIVING EVERYDAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
