I went to the gym this morning, an irregular experience lately due to heavy work and school volume and I weighed myself for the 1st time in a month. Down 15 pounds. I was excited but then I started thinking 'how did I lose this weight?' I haven't been able to get to the gym more than twice a week so I'm not working out anymore. Then I started thinking about my diet. I've been 100% raw for almost a month and I hadn't realized it. I've made vegan and sad dinners for my girlfriend, I've been out to lunch and dinner with my friends, I've been to the movies, and I've been unconsciously choosing raw food.
I hadn't planned on doing the 30 day challenge, I haven't been stressing about being 100% or about what I needed to eat or couldn't eat any longer. I haven't touched my food processor, dehydrator, juicer, or blender in weeks. Here's what I've been eating lately: mixed spring salad with spinach topped with sprouts (alfalfa, broccoli, radish, or clover) cucumber, yellow and/or green bell pepper, carrots sliced thin with veggie peeler, celery, and lemon juice, apples and celery with almond butter, and lots of whole fruit. Last night for dinner I had a whole pineapple topped with a pint of blackberries. I have Lara bars in the glove box of my car to help me break my fast food habit; whenever I want to stop I grab a bar. I usually have fruit at work, maybe apples, pineapple, berries, bananas, or oranges. Last week I ran to the grocery store on my lunch break and grabbed an english cucumber and a bag of baby carrots for lunch. We had a potluck last week and I made raw california rolls and a huge salad. I didn't eat the california rolls as I don't care for the taste or texture of seaweed but I was perfectly happy with my salad. I didn't even think or look at the other options. I think that the reason I have been successful is because I haven't planned it, I wasn't thinking about it, I was just eating what I liked.
We are doing a full Thanksgiving meal at my house this year and my contribution will be a huge salad, papaya, mango, bananas, carob sauce dipped strawberries, kiwi, pineapple (I had to buy two, one just for me and one for everyone else lol, just love pineapple), and other fresh fruit and veggies.
This post was really just to let people know that you don't have to have machines, gourmet meals, or meal plans to succeed. Don't think about what you're losing, don't think about what you are winning if it makes you think of deprivation, don't think, don't stress, don't worry, just be and let your mind and body take you where you need to go. You might be surprised with the results, I certainly was. All you need is a knife and some food.
