I have read people posts stating "When I was 50% Raw," "Now that I am 100% raw," and have a question:

I understand the 100% raw. What I don't get is how do you determine what percentage of RAW you are. Is it a daily intake of foods, or a weekly? What basis do you determine your percentage before going 100% RAW?

Currently I have one SAD meal a day. The remaining meals consist of whole RAW foods. Though, I have become increasingly ill eating that SAD meal.

Thank you for your input.

Most of the time it is a guess. However, if 1/3 of your meals are raw, you're probably about 66% raw. Judging by number of meals that is.

Some people judge by caloric intake, or weight, or whatever. It's always just a guess.

I'm 100% simply because I don't eat any cooked food at all. I don't even care much for dehydrated things.

I've read in more than one text that the percentage of raw refers to the percentage by weight of the total food eaten.

there are several various methods you can use to estimate the % of raw foods you eat. One, you can do it be weight. Two, you can do it by volume. Three, which is a more accurate method than the other two, is to do it by energy (heavy or high-volume foods may be low in energy, which would give an inaccurate reading of the true tendency). Four, if the weather is nice, then you choose say 90%, it it's rainy you choose say 70%. Statistically, this may produce a more accurate estimate than some other methods used. ;)

Best,
Gosia.

All those different methods of calculating... too much math for my head! For me it's just easier to be 100% ;)

Do it. Or don't do it.

Well, although I believe in an all or nothing aproach to things, I also understand than there are ways to transition, that might make ones' life and detoxing easier.

so, when I speak of being a percentage of raw to people, I am asuuming they mean in total food intake, such as Victoria Boutenko talks about in her books, that someone who eats a burger every day, and a shake and fries, is probably getting about 5% raw foods with their lettuce, tomatoe and onion on their burgers.

which sounds logical to me.

when I talk about my lover not being 100% it is because he may have a chicken pattie once a week, or maybe a piece of bread out at dinner or croutons on his salad, so he feels he isn't raw at all, but I feel he is about 85 to 95 % raw, more in the summer, when he eats really no meat at all, but now in the winter he doesn't graze through our gardens as much, we end up buying fruits and veggies, so he can't just pick and eat, he ends up coming in the house and making a salad or something, in which case he might also get a piece of bread or something.

So in answer to your question, that is how I figure it, although I don't really think percentages matter, at least not in my opinion, there are many raw books out there, and raw sites, and raw pot lucks, and most say if you eat about 50% of your foods raw, then you are a raw foodist.

and I personally welcome anyone to this website, all who are eating 100% raw, and all who wish to.
