View Full Version : Tried Alissa's Crepes

The whole family had them for breakfast, and I ate 1 too. I took out a second mortgage for the 1 cup of raw macadamias ;) I must have put too much honey in, so I will decrease it next time. For the sauce, I used a frozen berry mixture (raspberries, blackberries, blueberries). The whole family, except my pickier 7 year old, loved them. My 7 year old says, though, that she loves the banana leather by itself and the fruit sauce by itself, so I have no problem just giving her some strips of banana leather, or some fresh bananas, and the fruit sauce. She's never been too fond of nut-based creams.
Sorry, the family ate them so quickly that there was no time to make some pictures. But they pretty much look like the ones in the pictures on Alissa's site.
For those of you who are old-timers at making these, what temperature do you use for the dehydrator with the banana wraps? It doesn't say in the book. It simply says "Dehydrate for 14 hours or less". I took a wild stab at just above 105 deg.

I think my dehydrator was set at about the same temp...I normally just keep it anywhere under 110.
I can't even FIND mac nuts here, so I used cashews last time I made them and they were just as super delicious as they would have been with macs! :D

I used cashews as well and I just used kiwis for the sauce and it was great. I had some just after making them (could not resist) and had some after sitting for a few hours (as recomended) and I prefered the fresh ones.

I never buy mac's, I always use cashews. I've heard any white nut can be substituted for another? Hope that's right.

Well, I make them with macs for me and Dragggon and with cashews for guests.

RP, where do you buy your macs from? I can't find any here in Olympia at the co-op.

Thanks everyone :D
I was aware that I could have used all cashews, but I happened to actually see raw macadamias (at the Bulk Barn), and couldn't believe my eyes, and figured I would buy them just this once and produce my receipt as evidence that they do actually exist ;) After seeing the giant jars of macadamias on the DVD, I assumed that some parts of the solar system do produce and sell them. :D Also, the first time I make a recipe, I like to do it as close to "as written" as possible, while at the same time thinking "Hmm... I could use this or this instead"...
I actually would prefer all cashews, as these legumes tend to be creamier. But my family loves the crepes, and I'm going to be making them frequently.

I'm all out of cashews...and couldn't find macs either. I'll have to hit Whole Foods next week so I can give these a try.....now that I have "THE book" ;)

When I made them I had no strawberries so I used kiwis and they were still great.
