Sorry to post this personal subject, but whenever I eat flax, I get so constipated. Does this happen to anyone else? I also have a problem with broccoli and some other veggies. Figs, Raisins and Dates seem to help me go, but I don't want to eat them alot. They only thing that works is cantaloupe. It is the only food that I seem to be able to digest well. Will this all get better the longer I am eating raw?

It has the opposite effect on me.
No advice; just keep drinking water.
When I eat flax, I get gas with a flax smell  Otherwise, sometimes it can keep things a little slow moving. Try ground flax seed or flaxseed meal as they call it.

I use a lot of flax because I think that my joints stiffen if I go too long without it and I have no problem in that other area either.

flax is a seed, and as humans we are not meant to eat seeds, so this may be why you are having challenges with it.
When eating flax, it will go through you and not digest, as we are unable to break through the outer shell with our digestive juices. so it is best to grind it into a fine meal, if you want any nutrition from it.
Also, flax will draw out the water in your intestines, this is another reason you probably get all stopped up,
When eating flax, like a flax cracker, you need about 10 times the water as the cracker to keep it moving.
So, if you eat 1/4 cup of flax in a cracker, you need 10 quarter cups of water to drink, and more water would be better.
I love flax crackers with amlond butter and berries, and cinnamon, bananas, agave nectar etc. but I always make sure to drink alot of water when I do eat flax.
Hope this helps.

Ideally, it may be better not to eat things that stop you up? Food for thought...
In my system, the flax seed and meal block me a lot even if i drink a 1/2 gallon of water!! The oil seems to be the best for me and I still get the benefits of taste and joint lubrication.:) This is just for me though...but maybe this could help you?

I was wondering how much to take. I don't want to overdo it.

hi, through much experimentation..I have found 2-4 TBSP per day helpful. I put it on my salads and veggies with a little lemon. If I go to low I get very irritable and achy. I also have a bout an ounce of soaked nuts like almonds per day.
I supplement with magnesium, per Dr. Cousins recomendation. Have had constipation all my life and nothing seemed to work. Now I feel great with no problems! :) Edie
