I got this recipe off of www.fromsadtoraw.com and made it tonight.

It is soooo good. It's a little cold here to have a frozen shake, but it's so very good. I will be making this again for sure and will make this for Thanksgiving!

Oh, it is just divine and really tastes like chocolate to me!

So, if you have a chocolate craving ever, try this!

Frozen chocolate shake

1 cup almonds, soaked 4-8 hours
12 small dates or 5 large Medjool Dates
3 Tablespoons Carob Powder
4 Frozen bananas broken into pieces
Pour one cup water into a vita mix or blender with the almonds. (organic almonds taste superior to non organic, often with a marzipan like flavour). Blend on high speed until nuts are completely broken down into milk. Pour the almond milk through a strainer or mesh bag (such as a sprouting bag) and collect strained milk in a jug or bowl. Rinse blender to remove remainder of nuts. Pour the newly strained almond milk back into the blender. Add another cup of water, all of the dates, the carob and the banana pieces (slightly defrosted if not using a Vita mix to avoid damage). Blend all ingredients thoroughly until thick, whipped ice cream consistency is achieved. Pour into two tall glasses and enjoy !!! )Use almond pulp to make cookies later.

Variation 1. Add some Vanilla, instead of carob or any other flavouring of your choice.

Variation 2. This shake is also delicious with just bananas, nut milk and dates.

Serves 2

Contributors note: Everyone who has tasted this rich drink loves it, Its even better than the thick chocolate shakes we used to slurp on in fast food restaurants-not to mention much healthier !!

Thanks for the post vegggeeemom. Wow, your forum name tricks me up everytime I go to type it :D

The shake sounds good and I'll give it a try soon. I'm wondering that the dates might make it too sweet for my taste though, I'll find out soon.

Have you tried Alissa's shakes? So far I've tried these:
Dr. Doug's - amazingly simple and surprisingly better than I expected. Great for being able to consume that many bananas; hard to eat that many bananas in one sitting unless they're blended.
Banana Nut - Really good! My wife (SAD eater) loves this shake!
Chocolate Mocha - Good but more effort to make with the coconut. At least now, I know how to open one :)

Fiddler,

That's funny about my s/n tripping you up when you go to type it! :)

It was a little sweet, with the dates and the bananas, but dh tasted it and said it did not taste good. Because of the carob. Well, I said see how tastes change when on raw!

I have not tried Alissa's shakes yet. The banana nut one sounds really good. I'll try that one when I can get more bananas.

Thanks for your little run down of Alissa's shakes that you've tried so far.

Makes it more fun to try something someone else has made and a SAD eater liked it as well!
