View Full Version : depression
Hi all,
I tried the raw diet 4 years ago, and I remember feeling very optimistic. I am really desperate to get back on it again. I have binge eating issues, and bad depression. I would like to get some support, hear some stories, and learn of any articles on the web that I can read about people who have improved or healed from depression on raw food. I also would love to be able to actually speak on the phone with people like this. Any help would be appreciated thanks.

I would not mind talking with you via email or phone. I am a food addict and binger in recovery. I qualify myslef as an emotional and quanity eater. You are not alone. Remember FEELINGS are NOT facts. As you get healthier your body and mind will recover.:)

I can tell you that I have noticed an incredible improvement in my mental/emotional state since going raw! I had chronic depression and anxiety that did not respond to therapy, medication, or alternative treatments. Raw food and exercise totally cured it. I beleive exercise is vital in the treatment of depression as well as raw food. Studies have shown that exercise alone is as effective as medication in treating mild to moderate depression. Have faith that you will feel better on raw! Check out the transformation stories on Shazzie's site. Almost all of them mention feeling better mentally! Best of luck to you!!!

Lise, you are not alone, I think many of us here have felt the same way as you do at some point. After just a few months on this, I have told my husband that I now wake up feeling happy all day for no reason at all! I don't get stressed at work, and at the end of the day, I can leave it there. And that just wasn't me before. I got depressed almost every afternoon, and would binge on junk at night. I wanted to sleep more, then wake up and eat more before bedtime. It was an endless, depressing cycle. For me, the green smoothies for breakfast (or any meal), was the answer. I rarely crave anything now, and have lots of energy. I do make sure I have raw fudge and other raw treats in the fridge to keep me from being tempted. Most of all, though, it's this forum that keeps me on the right path!
