Hi all. I have a quick question for all you veteran sprouters....I have soaked some barley and also some oat and have had them "sprouting" for 3 days now. If I look closely, I can see some very, very small sprouting going on - kind of like what you see on almonds when they are sprouted. Is that all I need to do, or do they need to have a longer tail? Reason is, I noticed on most of the charts that for both of these it is about 3 days sprouting time - so, do I have some duds?
Thanks!!

Opinion:
Yeah...most likely duds. Wheat / Barley / Oats...will all sprout relatively quickly. At least with wheat and barley...you should see an initial tangle of small runners / tendrils coming out of the bottom after only 24-48 hours of rinsing. After 3 days...you should start to see the larger, greenish root emerge.....and the tendrils start to get really long and tangled. That's usually when I plant them...if I'm doing wheat / barley grass. If you don't see the full monty after 3 days.......find a different source.
Oh: PS. Make sure your water temperatures are cool.......and that you are not using chemicals like bleach in your water.

David -
Thank you for answering my question!!! :) I kept hoping someone would help me out.....I finally just threw them away, coming to my own conclusion that they were bad.
Guess I'll have to buy them somewhere else from now on.
Thanks again!
