I belong to an organic buyers group...a bunch of people that got together to buy in bulk so the prices are kept a lot lower than if you purchased the produce in the store, if you could even find it. It is fantastic and the price averages about $1.50/lb. Every other week we get a baskets worth of produce, this week it cost $58.00.
Today I got~
2 lbs. seedless green grapes
2, 3-lb bags Pink Lady Apples
3 bags organic cranberries
broccoli
1 huge bag of baby spinach
smaller bag of baby mixed greens
big bunch of celery
tomatoes
garlic
onions
2, 1-lb bags baby carrots
5 gorgeous sweet potatoes
3 bunches bananas
a 4-lb bag if valencia oranges
3 bosc pears
I just wanted to encourage you to find one in your area or possibly start one, put up an ad in your local health food store, ask around. I talk to people who are buying in the small organic section of my local supermarket, where the prices are outrageous and the selection terrible. The quality is awesome...I love looking at that basket, handling the produce....the colors are beautiful...amazing what nature can do~
