Hello,
I am starting the 30 day RFC and I was wondering if I really need a dehydrator. Can I just use my oven on a very low setting?
Thanks!

Good morning and welcome to this board! :)
Unfortunately most ovens have their warm or low temperature set at 150 degrees, at least mine did when I checked the temperature. There are many raw living food recipes one can eat without a dehydrator but if you want an inexpensive one that has a thermostat Wal-Mart carries the Snackmaster Express Food Dehydrator & Jerky Maker. It is $40.00. This is the one I am getting for now until I can afford a better one. Have a great day NappturalBeauty1980!

Hello and welcome to the boards :) I have heard some people will use oven at low temperature to make essene bread that is partially raw but still cooked on the outside. Before I got a dehydrator I used my oven here because it goes to low temperatures I think around 120 but anything I tried to make in the oven didn't work so I wouldn't recommend it even if your oven does go to really low temparatures. I would definately go with a dehydrator with temperature control. Good luck! :)

Welcome Nappturalbeauty!
yeah, I tried that low oven temp setting stuff when I first got started raw and it doesn't work...it overcooks. Now, I've read you can get a (is it 100 watt) bulb and put into the oven and just use that (kinda like what the Easy Bake Oven does I guess)...but you can find the model of dehydrator I use (American Harvest Snack Master) that has temp. control for like $40 or so at Walmart or Walmart.com
But the dehydrator is good to have for certain recipes and things that will most likely help you get through like crackers, etc...but IF you think you can just do dehydrator-less recipes and fresh fruits/veggies and be satiated, then you really won't need one. For me and MY transition...it's definitely a must-have for now! :o
