It's the holiday season so will be seeing some of this soon.

Are there any type that are safe for raw foodist to indulge in?

I heard something about Skyy vodka being one of the most pure on market.
Also, I saw organic wine in the store but I guess that woudnt be raw.

Any comments?

What do you mean by "safe"?

Yes, why would you wish to put poison in your body while eating such pure, clean, healthy and delicious foods?

Here's info from past questions about alcohol: http://www.rawfoodtalk.com/forum/showthread.php?t=7535&highlight=alcohol *whispers* I did a search using the banana up top. *runs out of the forum*

Just like eating cooked food, you have to make a decision on whether or not you want to join what others do that you feel is detrimental to health.

Hi! Good question.
There are quite a few past threads discussing this subject from
the past. Use can use the banana search button.
But to answer your questions, if you choose to have a drink once in a while
organic wine or wine in general is considered raw.
I believe it was Juliano who said that he had some Skyy vodka occassionally
and that it was the most pure alcohal on the market. It is not raw though.
Drinking is a very personal choice and there are quite a few raw fooders that do drink (look at all the raw restaurants that serve wine) and lots
that choose not to. Read the past discussions for more info.
BEWARE though, that if you have been raw for awhile
the effects of alcohal are stronger and drink much lighter than you
have when you are cooked!
Cheers!

all wine is raw, dear one. Liquor and beer is not. But watch out! If you drink even organic raw wine after being raw for awhile (like even a few days) you better be ready to feel like CRAP the next day. Our bodies are NOT able to handle the toxic effects of alcohol, at least in my experience. It's more fun to go without for me. I had 3 1/2 glasses of, admittedly, non-organic wine after about 5 days raw and the next day I felt like s**t. ALthough I DID have ONE glass of organic white wine after 2 weeks on raw and felt fine. But, I say, why mess with a good things?

A controversial subject for sure. Each has to make there own decision here. I AM NOT ADVOCATING ALCOHOL USE...just to be clear on that.

Wine is raw, but you want to get Organic for sure.I live in wine country & I know people who own cultivate grapes and produce the wines for market..organic and non organic. As you probably know Non Organic has added sulfites, grapes are sprayed.

When I was eating cooked the non organic wine did not affect me..but as theresann states once you go raw the system changes in some unique way and alcohol is a whole new ball game. I drink 2 glasses on I have a headache, tried it raw felt like *%$# too !! I found I can only drink one of the Organic, and have had something to eat, I am fine.

Unfortunely that being said since going raw I have tried finding a good Organic Dry Red (I am fussy) and too date only found one brand that I am willing to drink. So needless to say I am changing my habits of wine with dinner on the week end.

Thank you all for the info..I agree that alcohol is not something that sure be considered wholesome but it is something that I enjoy regardless ( on special occasions). That may soon change that that I am making the commitment to go raw but now I enjoy good food, hopeful always raw, and a glass of high quality wine now and then. I haven't in a long time drank to the point I was sick or hungover. ( not since college). I guess like everyone said, it's a decision.

Thanks again for the info...

I like a glass once and a while with a raw italian meal. It reminds me of being in Italy. I also have noticed that the effects are much more pronounced after being raw for a while. I have to remember that or I wake up miserable!

My husband also appreciates the effects after I drink a glass of Merlot!!! So I weigh out the positives and the negatives, and usually have a glass once a month. If it's a bad month I'll have two glasses!

Pauliegirl!! Ha that could of been me saying that my hubby enjoys it when I drink the wine!! That is a long running joke in our relationship, and family i guess. He drinks zero!!! alcohol because he is allergic to it. I always joke that that is the reason we have been married for ten years...I never have had to worry about a designated driver. Of course that was 2 kids ago....
