My husband came home with a big ginger root now can anyone tell me how to use it in a recipe?
I don't want it to go bad just sitting there. So if anyone can help me by sharing how they have used it I would appreciate it very much.
It's cold on my back porch so it should stay fresh for awhile.
Thanks.

I love ginger, so many ways to use it. Lately I've been juicing it and adding to juices and smoothies (its a bit stringy so I don't put it in the blender). Also, grate or mince it and use in salad dressings ~ one of my faves is with tahini, carrot and ginger. Some people say its an "acquired" taste, but I love it

I'm a huge ginger fan too!
I think you either like it or not... it's great
in asian inspired salad dressings and food.
Alissa has a recipe for Miso soup in her book that
calls for some fresh ginger.
I love it in my juice too.
One of my favorite juice combo's is:
1 apple
1 cucumber
several stalks of celery to your taste
1/2 " knob of ginger root run threw the juicer
A little goes a long way, so it sounds like you have enough
to last for awhile!

One of the tastiest ways I've ever used ginger is this:
Make a fruit salad using anything you like -
But also put in some fresh pineapple, fresh squeezed orange juice, fresh orange zest and a little grated ginger. Let it marinate for a few hours and it's heavenly! You may want to add more or less ginger and orange zest - just try a little to begin with.

I am never without ginger. I keep it in the fridge and add it to juice and smoothies. I made carrot and ginger flax crackers recently and my friend says that they are my best crackers to date. I agree with her.

Yummy one of my favs too. Last night for dinner I had wakame, yellow peppers, avocado, chopped ginger, some braggs, smitch of olive oil. So good.
Also can make raw ginger cookies, lemon gingerale and just eat it raw...O.K. maybe I am one of the few that likes it like that. Oh also very good in pie crusts.

ginger root is very versitile, as you can use it in veggie dishes, desserts, drinks etc.
I keep mine in the fridge, when I want a piece, I chop it off, "WHACK!!!" then I start to peel it, by the time I am done peeling the whole kitchen smells great.
If you are using in a drink no need to peel, if using in other recipes I tend to peel.
But mmmmmmm it smells and tastes heavenly.
extremely good for the Holiday season, use in egg nog nut milks, mmmm
warm cider mmmmm
nut pates' double mmmmmm
sauces, and
cookies
raw nut/date cakes mmmmmm
anything will taste better with ginger.
warm teas with ginger and lemon and honey mmmmmmmm
etc. etc. etc.

I add it to juiced carrots. If I am making carrot soup, I juice the ginger with the carrots, throw the juice into the blender and add an avocado. It is delicious!
Beware, ginger can be strong. Start off small.
Blessings.
