Finding Me

Hi Everyone! My name is Shannon, I'm 27, and from Atlanta, GA. I'm very excited about finding this Forum! With any new changes, support is vital! My husband and I have taken the step in deciding to go raw. We are very excited about our upcoming change. I've been doing a lot of reading and a lot of research on the diet before we begin. He's a little worried about the "no meat" part, but told me, as long as I "uncook" for him in the beginning, he'll be just fine. He's worried about the protein, and I need to show him the articles pertaining to that still. We also have a 4 1/2 year old son. I feel it may be difficult to switch him over, but know its attainable. I'll be posting on that in the relative section with some questions later.
We decided to switch to this new way of eating for health reasons. We want to live forever!! :D hehe. We also want to feel full of life, therefore RAW is the way for us. We don't have any major health issues... and we'd like to keep it that way. And as much as the detox process doesn't sound fun, we're actually looking forward to it, knowing our bodies will be cleansed. We plan on starting very soon. We like to get all the facts first. As well, I want my kitchen "raw prepared and stocked" to make things a bit smoother.
We look forward to living and learning with all of you on this board!! Talk to you all soon!
Welcome FM! And congratulations on your "family" decision! That is so wonderful that this is a decision you and your husband made together. So many of us have spouses, or SOs that won't change or are even un-supportive. So for you two to have eachother is really a big plus towards doing this successfully.
And congratulations on being proactive about your health. There's no reason to wait till you're stricken with some horrible disease to realize it's time to make changes.
That's great that you did your homework so you can present your husband with the facts about protein. Many here can attest to the fact that you can get plenty of protein to maintain, and even build muscle.
My five year old daughter loves to share my green smoothies. (Greens and fruit, if you haven't already stumbled upon those :) ) Your son might surprise you and be quite receptive to this new way of eating.
We're glad to have you aboard :D

Thank you guys for making us feel welcome! Guess what? My hubby wants to take Alissa's classes with me. All three of them!! I'm so excited. It will really help out by him learning all of this from a professional versus just me!! My day has just been made with that news!! yay!! :D

Welcome from north Georgia! Lovely to see you here and look forward to hearing about your journey. Fantastic that you have your family's support. Let me know about any wonderful "raw discoveries" you find in and around Atlanta as I am there at least once a month and always on the prowl for fun stuff. If you are on the west side, you should eat at Cafe Life in Marietta (attached to Life Grocery)...it's yummy and you can try a variety of different foods on their buffet to get a good "taste" for raw. I'll be there Monday and plan also to hunt for a good international market to buy cases of young coconuts and such.
Anyway...welcome to the boards!
Bless you bunches,
Bretta

Hey Scrapdawg!
Thanks for the welcoming. It's funny you are talking about looking for international markets for young coconuts. I was doing the same yesterday. If you come across any, I would love to know. I am on the west side of Atlanta, and I am in Marietta quite often. Where exactly is Life Grocery at? I usually go to Whole Foods.
Thanks!! :)

Turn at the Big Chicken and go under the interstate (and past Whole Foods)...Life Grocery/Cafe Life is about a 1/2 mile to a mile on the left, in the shopping area next to McDonalds. They are a GREAT source for bulk seeds and herbs too! Very reasonable. I'll let you know if I find any great sources!
