View Full Version : Can't 'accept' OR 'reject' friend requests?

Anyone else having this issue?

I receive friend requests from time to time, but my control panel won't 'save' my responses to accept or reject them. The option is displayed, but when I hit the 'save' button in the browser, it just doesnt do anything.

By the way, it's not the broswer itself as it does it in either IE9 or Firefox. It seems to be yet another quirk of the (unmaintained?) forum software.

If anyone knows a workaround for this, please let me know.

Thanks

It's working for me. Not sure why it isn't for you???

Don't know, but perhaps it relates to something Supa mentioned in the 'attachements' thread:

are you definitely checking the tick box? I have failed to do that a few times.

LOL! - True enough - I'd even go so far as to say there is no such thing as 'dumb' or 'smart' - we're all cluelessly groping around in a cosmic soup we call a 'universe' !

The only thing I can personally say, in my own defence, is that I've never said "I do". That would've been unforgiveably dumb ;-)

Back to the topic at hand...

Do you think you could perhaps give Alissa a nudge about the fact that RFT's forum software really does need some proper server admin level maintenance. I appreciate that that costs money, and that RFT doesn't really bring in any revenue (as is), but nonetheless, there are a growing number of irritating glitches in the forum software (at least for some members) which will not improve on their own and are likely to increase as time goes by, if the situation is just ignored.

...speaking of which, it has long been apparent to me that Alissa has a very healthy level of traffic to this site, which she doesn't take advantage of. There are many business start-ups that would 'kill' for the kind of traffic Alissa has here on RFT, and she's just letting it go to waste. There's a genuine opportunity for Alissa to put her entrepeneurial hat on again and start thinking of ways she can harness the traffic she has here. I don't mean by charging for use of the forum, but more along the lines of advertising either her own entrepeneurial ventures / products, or 3rd party products she believes in the integrity of. Or by using it as a way to publicise raw-related events or podcasts etc. etc.

I would be happy to step in and work to resolve some of the board issues if given a chance.

Some steps I would take...

0) backup board database and content before trying to fix anything
1) fix picture attachments permissions and server side account preferences (i seem to have issues too)
2) upgrade the board from 4.1.4 -> 4.2.0 patch 3
3) enhance account signup Turing tests to block spam bot users
4) purge previous spam bot generated accounts and content
(25167 accounts with zero posts, 3781 with one post which might be suspect)
5) resolve false positive spam filter issues and add white listing based on positive board historic activity

Alissa has been working on something new - hence why the forum has been put on hold for the time being. So nothing is going to happen with the forum any time in the near future. We just have to work around the issues until she's done with her new project.

Forums cost a lot of money. Between $250 and $400 a month to keep on the net. So putting more money into it right now isn't something that she wants to do - until she gets her new idea underway.

So we just need to be patient and wait...

Well, well, well...

I received another 'friend' request today, and, idly, I tried to action it, and guess what? It's now finally accepting my input!

Don't know if someone has been busy fixing it, but it's the first time it's worked for me in literally weeks

Alright, first let me just say IM SORRY!!! I know this whole board needs a total redo! Ive known this for while and ive been putting it off as ive honestly just had too many other business things that needed my time! I have also been putting it off because ive been thinking of tying it in to something else that I have in the works. My web guy was going to do it months ago but i told him to wait until i decide what it needs to morph into. BUT, I know a lot of you like this board and im so sorry this has been an issue on here! Im talking to him later today about what to do. Thank you guys for offering to help! I will keep you posted later today or tomorrow.
Hm, I miss this place!!!!

Hi Alissa! Saw you've been more active on twitter - it's nice to see :)

Also, just throwing it out there - I have a BBA in Marketing and Management and 3+ years of progressive experience as an Administrative and Executive Assistant, if there's anything I can do to help. We should move back to the Kittery area in about 2 years.
