I was curious what you guys spend on a daily basis - or every couple of days for fasting. Today I bought 5lbs of tomatoes, 10 pounds of oranges, 5 pounds of apples, 5 pounds of carrots, 1 bunch of Kale (i've never had it so I bought a little to try), 5 big cucumbers, a bunch of beets, and a bunch of spinach, and a nice sized ginger root for 20$. I don't think that's too bad, is it?

i buy bulk when i fast... a case/box of organic apples runs me around the $60 mark (sometimes i get a way better deal) and it'll last parz and i a week to ten days depending on what else we are juicing with it etc.
$20 seems like a nice amount IMO. let us know how long it lasts you. depending on your juicer depends on how much produce you go through.

I spent 80$ at a local grocer an that lasted me a full week ... I just bought the same amount of produce for 17$ at Sprouts a Trader Joes-esque store. Needless to say I will be shopping at Speouts from here on in.
This was a huge lesson in the value of my pocket book! Especially when the stuff from Sprouts was all organic compared to the other store that wasn't organic.
I'd say shop around if you can and check your local flyers for things that can be prepped and frozen safely for later use. (Like oranges that are five pounds for a dollar this week). We're buying a ton oranges and juicing .. Then freezing the juice and dehydrating the fine for use in soap)...I digress... You need know what you will find!

In case anyone is still concerned about budgeting, I did find an amazing blog by a Raw Foodie who eats on less than 10$ a day and blogs about it: http://www.rawon10.com/

sounds a good price.
I tend to spend less when I and juicing that I do when I am eating which is an odd way round I feel but what the heck, I don't mind. I eat a lot of fruit and that runs more expensive than I would like I suppose but it's still cheaper than if I stuff my face with SAD!
the recipes on $10 a day or less are usually very good but the portion sizes are small I think - maybe that's just me.

It's expensive, that's for sure! That's why I can't juice feast even though I would love to!

Me too. I think it's cos I use carrots and cheaper foods as a bulk base but also I am not eating nuts and dates and more expensive suchlike. I also think I eat less generally when I am juice fasting. I'm looking forward to having things growing in my garden again. I grew so many pea shoots, fenugreek, wheat grass etc last year. This year I want to get spinach to grow rampantly!

$10/day actually doesn't sound cheap to me at all :(Since I am overweight I think the goal should be to fast first. Not having to worry about food is actually quite liberating.

Brandi Rollins does a raw food on a budget book and associated stuff. There is free stuff on her site and she seems really nice but I don't know what she considers low priced raw eating.

I spent loads on raw food supplies yesterday :)
I buy a few times a week depending on whats needed from where, but if i totaled it up for a week...
$8 - 5lbs of ginger
$9 - 3lb of organic fennel
$8 - 4lb of organic celery
$7 - 10lb bag of organic carrots
$10 - 4 bunches of organic kale
$8 - 4 bunches of organic collards
$3 - 4 bunches of parsley
$4 - 2lbs of organic apples
$3 - 15 oranges
$3 - 8 lemons
$3 - 7 grapefruits
$2 - tray of fresh turmeric
So say ~$70 total with a few extras here and there which is for juice for two people for breakfast and lunch
That supplies 36oz green juice and 30oz fruit/ginger juice each day for a week
Which is around 3 and a half gallons of juice and comes out to around ~$3 per 18oz serving

If you have a Trader Joe's, they have 2lb bags of organic apples for $2.49. I was disappointed today as they did not have the Pink Ladies which seem to juice better than the Fugi.

I refuse to use non-organic produce when juicing because the juice goes directly into the blood stream and I believe it could actually cause damage to juice non-organic fruits and veggies. I also believe a person needs 3 - 1/2 gallons of juice a day...at least. So, that may be why it would cost me $20 a day to juice and a normal raw day is between $8-$10 dollars. I have a dear friend who did a non-organic juice feast and she still spent $15 a day on produce, so I don't think spending $20 a day for an all organic juice feast is unreasonable!

I don't drink or smoke or go out to eat or buy new clothes or new shoes or new curtains or plates or pots and pans. I don't have an electricity bill or a telephone line or a broadband connection or a mains gas bill or any holidays. I feel like I can spend some of the money I save on those things to buy good food :)

I'm now curious about how many pounds of veggies and fruits I should be getting if I plan to juice for a whole day?

Not sure if I answered this already and my post went to moderation or if my phone failed to send the reply ...
Yesterday I juiced 6 apples, one pineapple and a pound of carrots. It made about 2 litres. I was eating other stuff as well so this wasn't my sole nutrition; if you wanted to use that as a rough guide and then add in whatever greens, celery, beets etc you wanted then you could.
