DebB wanted me to post some info here on attaching personal photos directly to the site. First off this site uses the flash plugin to manage the upload processes. For this and other security considerations make sure you have the latest version installed from here (http://get.adobe.com/flashplayer/).

Here is the skinny. First thing is to click the image button in the formatting bar.
9321

You are then given an inline menu which lets you choose from computer or url.
9322

On the from computer tab you select files and find them on your computer.
The click the upload button to send them to the site.
9323

If you are in simple edit mode this will put the pictures attach code into your post automatically.
9324

If you are in advanced mode it will show you the manage attachments window showing of all your uploaded files to date with the option of dragging them into the attachment window and clicking add inline then done to include the new uploads or old uploads into your post.
9326

For using a picture directly from another website then do add picture in posting tools here and choose from URL instead of from computer and paste the URL and leave the store local box checked. The url should end with .jpg .gif. or .png The copy image url feature differs a tad from browser to browser. For instance in Firefox when I right click on the jalapeņo to the left on this site. I get "Copy Image Location" as a choice which is what you want.

Hope that helps.

I followed the directions (including downloading the latest version of Adobe) and when I got to uploading the picture from my computer on the 'Insert Image' box - It gave me the dreaded red circle with an exclamation mark in it.

When I hovered on the red circle, it gave me this message, 500 [IOErrorEvent type= "ioError" bubbles = false cancelable = false event Phase = 2 text = "Error # 2038].

At first I thought maybe the picture was too big, it was 3.4MB. So I reduced it to 174.9 KB (320x240).jpg. Still won't let me.

Is that the problem - my picture's too big? Thanks for any help, I would really like to figure this out without having to use a program like Photo Bucket, etc.

No, it's not the size of your picture. I get exactly the same error, even with a 150kb picture.

It seems to be a setting for the forum software, which only the administrator(s) can alter, if the following thread is correct:

I've gone in to the admin section to check if this is a fix for us and it isn't.

What browser are you guys using?

I am using Firefox 18.0.1 (http://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/fx/#desktop)

Also what are your forum settings for uploading (http://www.rawfoodtalk.com/profile.php?do=editoptions)?

Yes, I am using the latest version of Firefox (when I followed your link, it said that Firefox was updated).

Yes, I have both of the same boxes checked that you show in your picture.

Thanks Supa!!

And thank you Arky for replying about the picture size.

Since both you and Arky have been here awhile, I wonder if you are above the board quota for uploaded files.

What does this page tell (http://www.rawfoodtalk.com/profile.php?do=editattachments) you?

LOL! err, no...

I have NEVER uploaded anything in all the years I've been a member here. Yesterday was the very first time.

I'm getting pretty close. It looks like I'm about 4/5 of the way full. This is what it says:

You are currently using 6.35 MB to store 113 uploaded attachments.

Really Supa - I don't mean to foist this all off on you! That wasn't my intention. I saw that you were able to post pictures and I was curious as to how you do it. I believe I can post them through Photo Bucket or such. No worries! Thank you SO MUCH for all you've done!

Looks like this is a server issue with older accounts. Each account has an attachment folder on the server (that is where the quota part comes from) and the permissions on that folder should be 777 which means readable and writable by owner, group, and world. New accounts like mine have been auto created with the correct permissions, older imported accounts do not have this set correctly, probably 755. One would need access to the site via ftp, ssh, or a web based file manager to fix it.

It is no problem at all DebB. My day job involves managing servers, administrating databases, and building websites.

I gave up and now use Photo Bucket! It's so weird because it USED to be SO easy to put pictures on this website!

p.s. Photo Bucket is extremely user friendly and I highly recommend it. I believe DebB recommended it to me.

Yea, I use Photobucket too actually. You get to post bigger pictures and the quality is better. But, if you don't use Photobucket, this way works great. Supa explains it very well. I started out using this method, but then (yea, no surprise to anyone I'm sure....), I used up my allotted photo amount. Then another mbr showed me how to use Photobucket and I just attach the URL...and there is no limit to how many pictures you can post, which is really nice!

Thanks, that explanation makes sense. Hope this gets sorted soon, as well as the insanely intrusive SPAM filter.

Now I can't even use Photo Bucket as this website states that a moderator has to look at my request to add a picture to a post and then nothing happens!

Moderators, please, what is going on???

Hi Walnutty...

Well...Aleesha, Cathy, and I have all resigned as Moderators of this site. I don't know if Alissa has anyone moderating at this time. You may want to email her if you have an interest in doing so. Feel free to email us personally if you need to, but none of us have the job anymore.
