Boy - I bet those new ones are pretty! I didn't know that either. I watch the demos whenever they're having them @ Costco, but they don't offer those colors...

You know, it's funny... Vitamix.com has become increasingly difficult to access in the UK, over the past few months. The website makes the web browser jump through hoops, redirecting it multiple times and basically confusing the browser.

I just tried it, and it actually will not load at all.

Now, this could be a mere accident, but the cynic in me is oh-so-tempted to conclude that Vitamix USA really don't want potential customers in the UK to realise how much they're being ripped-off by comparison with pricing in the US. Sure, there's import taxes etc., but even so; the price difference is a whopping huge amount.

Still, they look nice.

How does the price compare Arky?

OK, using a proxy server in order to view the Vitamix.COM website, which they clearly don't want me to be able to see, here in the UK, I can see that the current US price for a Vitamix is $449 for an approximate equivalent model to the UK 'TNC' (i.e. one that offers varaible speed control).

In the UK, the current price for their base ('TNC') model is £459, which is $738, so basically, we're paying more than' pounds-on-the-dollar', which is frankly outrageous.

$738 - $449 = $289

$449 / $289 = 1.554

1.554 x 100 = 155.4%

So, in other words, we have to pay one and a half times as much for an equivalent Vitamix here in the UK.

I don't deny that Vitamix must pay certain duties to the UK, and I also acknowledge that some US customers will have to factor in state sales tax, the level of which varies from state to state, but even so, this is a rip-off, plain and simple. Their greed is driving potential UK customers to buy from competitors instead.

Mystic Tree and I were discussing this enormous discrepancy not long ago:

Wow... I've read in the past that they're much higher in the UK, but I didn't know they were SO much more.

Well, regardless of my distaste for their UK pricing, I hope all of you in the USA enjoy your Vitamixes (especially the stainless steel ones" ;-)

I'm off to use my Newgena...
