I never had fresh persimmons in my life, maybe had the dried ones once. Then last week a coworker bought some from her garden, and they are amazing! One of those fruits I'm happy to eat by itself, I didn't even want to put them in a smoothie with anything else.I love finding new foods like this.

Which type did you have?

There are different types? You can tell how much I know. They were orange and the size of a plum or small apple, firm texture and dark leaf on top.

I mono on them a lot at the moment. They are very satisfying as well as being tasty.

I love them as well but the ones available in WF in my area do not look good :-(
I'm new to persimmons and I admit they're a bit of a mystery to me. We buy them at Costco. They'll get in both kinds the fuyu & hachiya. I know you're "supposed to" be able to eat the fuyu when it's hard, but it's not very tasty to me that way. When I let either variety sit and 'ripen' (rot?) it takes about a month! I don't know... I don't buy them often for this reason.
Dara Dubinet said in a recent video that you can pop them into the freezer overnight and that will soften them up. I'll try that next time. My husband said the wild persimmons in southern IL are best eaten after the first frost, so...maybe.
