Since a few days my lips have been dry and cracking. From a quick search I found likely causes for me could be dehydration, eating hot (as in spicy) food or vitamin deficiencies.

Does anyone know what I should eat or avoid or anything else to cure this?

I hope it's not caused by spicy food because I like eating spicy, I will make sure to drink more water in case it is dehydration. Does anyone know what specific deficiencies are known to cause this?

Thanks

SO many possibilities...

Just for starters:

Check you're not anaemic.

Check you're not zinc deficient.

Check you're not EFA deficient.

Check you're not Vitamin A deficient.

Check you're not getting too much EFA intake, strange though that might sound. Excessive Omega 3, for example, can, counter-intuitively, lead to dry skin.

Check thyroid function.

There really are so many possibilities.

Oh, and don't apply coconut oil topically to your lips, in an attempt to moisturise them. It has its uses but can be counter-productive for that particular purpose.

Wheat caused it for me. As well, it would swell my fingertips to the point they would split and leave gaping cracks that took weeks to heal and close. Stopping wheat ended cracked peeling lips and split painful swollen fingertips.

Wow, that's weird, how did you figure it was wheat? And is it specifically wheat or gluten?

Thanks for all the other replies, I'll check what you all recommended.
