I've been reading about more and more people on this board who are incorporating green smoothies into their raw diet. I never could stomach green juice, but green smoothies are much more palatable to me. However, I never realized this importance of them until I read several months of back issues of Victoria B's newsletter, in which she introduces her research into the importance of greens and how she is getting enough greens in her diet every day. I was amazed by the length of research she has done for her upcoming book about greens! Just reading a few of her articles has really changed my opinion of green smoothies!
I have a few questions for those that drink green smoothies regularly, and thank you in advance for taking the time to answer them. What I'd like to know is:
1. How long have you been raw?
2. How raw (rough percentage) were you when you started drinking green smoothies?
3. How long have you been drinking green smoothies?
4. How much green smoothie do you drink a day (in ounces/cups)?
5. What benefits have you experienced?

I don't know if I should copy and paste the info here because it's copyrighted and I also read about 38 pages worth of info. LOL! However, you can read it easily at the Boutenko Family's website:

There you can sign up for Victoria's newsletter, read back issues of a few months' worth of newsletters, and access other articles. I read through nearly the whole site again last night, including "news", "articles", "testimonials" and "FAQs". There is a lot of info about greens and green smoothies under many categories (listed on the left hand column of the site), and especially in the back issues of the newsletters.

1. How long have you been raw? 100% since 8/2005; 70-90% since 2/2005
2. How raw (rough percentage) were you when you started drinking green smoothies? 100%
3. How long have you been drinking green smoothies? 1 month
4. How much green smoothie do you drink a day (in ounces/cups)? Varies. On average maybe one or two blenders full (32 to 64 oz).
5. What benefits have you experienced? Ahhh, cuts down on the fat intake and increases the greens -- obviously. Don't know that I've noticed a difference in my energy 'cause I've felt really good since going all raw. I do like that there's NO CLEANUP other than rinsing the blender. If I drink an all fruit smoothie I get a different feel -- more of a rush which is what I like sometimes but not others.

Great topic!
I love my green smoothies and could just about live on them. I also have TMJ and this is a great way to get "salad" without doing any chewing! I get so many more greens in diet this way as I'd never eat enough in salads as I can drink in delicious smoothies!
To answer your questions...
1. How long have you been raw?
High raw for over 2 1/2 years (100% probably half of this time)
2. How raw (rough percentage) were you when you started drinking green smoothies?
75% to 100% as I am not consistent in my percentages, I probably average 90% raw though.
3. How long have you been drinking green smoothies?
Gosh, that is a good question. I'd say over a year as I was already drinking smoothies each day and then just started adding greens to my already favorite recipes.
4. How much green smoothie do you drink a day (in ounces/cups)?
I drink one or two large green smoothies each day, I'd say 4 cups in each one?? So up to 8 cups in a day at most. This is in addition to eating a lot of raw foods too, I am a big eater and am a fanatic about my exercise so I burn up a lot of calories!
5. What benefits have you experienced?
Well, I love knowing I am getting far more greens this way than I'd ever eat. Probably consuming more in one day than I'd eat in a week even as a cooked vegan a few years ago. Sounds funny, but I can't believe now looking back how little greens I've eaten all my life so I am making up for it now!
I also feel more balanced inside if that makes sense. Like I am getting a better variety of nutrients!

5. What benefits have you experienced? nothing really obvious, but it just feels SO good going down!!!

3. How long have you been drinking green smoothies? Since about my 10th day so about 49 days
4. How much green smoothie do you drink a day (in ounces/cups)? 32 - 38 oz.

Decreased appetite
Increased mental awareness and alertness
Increased energy
Increased positive attitude

* I've been raw for 9 months.

*100%.
3. How long have you been drinking green smoothies?
* I've regularly been drinking them for about 3 months now. Usually every morning.
4. How much per day.?
* About 2 cups.
5. What benefits have you experienced?
* More energy. The taste gets better. It helps with my endurance and stamina during workouts. It also helps to replenish me after my workouts. Love the feeling in the morning after drinking them! Just the thought of people trying to get that "awakened" feeling with all the drugs and artificial stimulants like caffeince, cigarettes, etc. really makes me feel good that i can accomplish the same feeling with just raw green leafy vegetables and some fruit.

Thanks to everyone who's replied so far. I really appreciate all this great info! Tomorrow I start daily green smoothies. I do eat a good amount of greens, but this way I'll be assured that I get them in every day, and a much better mix than what I would just eat raw in a salad or another way. Thanks again!

1. How long have you been raw? since sept 2000
2. How raw (rough percentage) were you when you started drinking green smoothies? 85 to 100% depending on the day.
3. How long have you been drinking green smoothies? off and on for a year, there was some times i didnt drink them during pregnacy, but last 3 1/2 months DAILY!
4. How much green smoothie do you drink a day (in ounces/cups)? 32 to 64 oz
5. What benefits have you experienced?
1. helps curb cravings
2. increased energy!
3. gives you a full feeling
4. easy way for me to get greens in as I am not a huge salad eater. Also a great way for me to get greens into my families diet! :)

percentage? 100% overnight
green smoothies? since day one-seeing Victoria and Igor last month got me started. Went 100% overnight with green smoothies and not looking back
how much? one to one and a half blenders full daily-my kids are drinking them for breakfast-yea!
results?
well, since I just went raw, but from a non-vegetarian diet (was eating occ. chicken, eggs and dairy, drinking beer and coffee almost daily) overnight and had NO CRAVINGS for ANY OF THAT, including ALL cooked food, since the 3rd day, I'd say those green smoothies are pretty darn amazing. Victoria said that they replace the minerals and amino acids that lead to cravings, and I"d say that's absolutely true.
I have tons of energy, but I'm still detoxing, of course, so that's up and down sometimes, greens and non-sweet fruits are tasting DELICIOUS to me (in only 10 days I'd say that's a miracle), lowered appetite, no need to eat at night (another miracle), weight loss, etc. and absolutely NO cravings for cooked foods, alcohol, chocolate, etc. Going raw is EASY with no cravings. That's what green smoothies provide. They are just awesome.
One other point is that Victoria said that simply adding 1-2 quarts of green smoothies a day to even a SAD diet can heal people -as she proved in her 30 day trial. read about it in her new book, "Green for Life" (also at amazon, or rawfamily.com)

I've been raw about 1 year.
I was pretty much 99% raw, when I started with green smoothies.
I have been drinking them for about 3 to 4 months.
I make a pretty full blender in the morning. I am guessing it is 6 to 8 cups. Whatever I don't drink in the a.m., I pour the remainder into a jar and bring it to work with me. I drink it around mid-morning to lunch time.
Benefits, are that I have fewer pimples. ( I have rosacea.) I still get a couple, but they are much less than before.

5. What benefits have you experienced? tons of energy, no cravings whatsoever (that's the best part:), great skin, (really bad before), healthy nails and hair, calm and happy most of the time, even in a stressful job.
Yes, the taste gets better. You actually get to where your body wants a green smoothie when you wake up!
1. How long have you been raw? 26 days
2. How raw (rough percentage) were you when you started drinking green smoothies? 100%
3. How long have you been drinking green smoothies? 25 days
4. How much green smoothie do you drink a day (in ounces/cups)? As much as my body wants, when it says no more I stop. Usually about 4-5 cups.
5. What benefits have you experienced? Energy, satisfaction, keeps me centered, no more brain fog or cravings.
My favorite: 1 cucumber, 2 apples, 1/2 lemon, 4 carrots, 4 stalks celery, hand full of kale. Add water to measure 4 or 5 cups and sip as needed. For DH, I blend the juice with a banana. (This is juiced in a juicer, not a blender.)
