PLEASE... feel free to join this thread any time ... we loooove having new friends to fast with!!!

Here's are the 'rules' of this thread:

Please do not discuss specific food. Feel free to share "My hubby was eating and it was hard for me." Please don't share "My hubby was eating X, Y and Z..."

The reason we do this is so no one ends up getting a craving from a fasting thread. As a faster we can choose to click on a thread which discusses food but we need the safety within this thread to know food is not discussed. Juices are shared, M/C is shared, green smoothie recipes are shared... but not 'chewable' food.

Please join us... by listening to our theme song (http://vimeo.com/moogaloop.swf?clip_id=2539741). We all come together... from around the world to fast together and support each other. Please join us!

There is a great deal of info in this stickie (http://www.rawfoodtalk.com/showthread.php?t=62026). Please take a moment to read it.

And here is a thread (http://www.rawfoodtalk.com/showthread.php?t=61603) where we share our favourite recipes. If you haven't contributed yours, please do!

Here's my commitment:

I'm here to fast. I'm not here to eat. I will fast until I choose to stop but I will NOT stop my fast on a bad day, at night or today. I can choose to break my fast tomorrow in the morning but not today.

I'm here to gain health.
I'm here to gift my body the time and energy to bring my body to a state of health.
I'm here to release - whatever needs to be released. Physical, emotional, conscious or unconscious out-moded things... I'm here to release them all.
I'm here to bring a greater depth to my spirituality.
I'm here to support myself, my super amazing husband Parz, and anyone here who wants support.
I am here to continue to be mindful - focusing on this moment and not anticipating the next one.
I am here to share my experience and gain knowledge from what others share.
I'm here to feel whole. I'm here to give my beautiful, cherished body a break from digesting food!!!

This is the "Fellowship of the Fasters" - unlike the LOTRs fellowship of nine, we are a fellowship of many. We welcome newcomers daily and embrace everyone no matter what they are fasting on or their personal beliefs.

Yes you can prefer green juices to fruit. Yes you can use agave instead of maple syrup or raw honey. Yes you can juice in your Vita-Mix and use a nut mylk bag to extract your juices.

We don't care how you fast... we want to support you... and in turn, we ourselves get supported... so please... join us!!!

Come on everyone.. join in the fun and grab your Elf, Dwarf, Hobbit or Human names for our "Fellowship of the Fasters"... you just make them up, it isn't from the book/movie. (if you want to participate) and put it in your signature line!

Ever wonder how the Fellowship began?

Back when I first began fasting there were the Fasting Bandits. This was a group of amazing people who fasted together all the time. The 'theme' was a convoy of truckers. I was the water tanker! :throwhearts: Over time the Fasting Bandits moved on with their lives and weren't around much at all. A few of the members are still here... but seldom fasting anymore.

I was missing the camaraderie of the FB and was always hoping to find a new group to fast with, find support with and to support myself. The Fellowship of Fasters began because Cathy and I watch the movie Lord of the Rings a LOT and we fast together a LOT as well. We began speaking to each other as though we were Golum - and our juice was our precious.

And then the Fellowship of Fasters was born!

So to be a member... you simply need to choose a name, put it in your signature line and love fasting. You can become a life-time member or one for a short time... it's up to you.

I'm here for the long haul. My water tanker is here beside me - because I'll always be a Fasting Bandit... but now my precious walks beside on a slower path than the truckers... enjoying the grass at my feet and the flowers growing out of the cracks and crevices in the rocks around me.

Today is Day 1 of a juice fast for me. I finally found fennel at the store I go to, by pure accident actually. I'd thought it was a leek... XD

I had a carrot, fennel, apple and ginger juice and it was so awesome. Fennel has all these amazing benefits, too, from what I've read online.

Herb fennel/wild fennel doesn't form a bulb but has all the properties of bulb fennel and will seed and overwinter well so you will never have a shortage. Bulb fennel is harder to get good results from and needs more specific climate. Herbs of all sorts are well worth growing either in your garden, a friend's garden, an allotment, window box (fennel might be too tall) or even sneakily planted in some local place that you pass on a regular basis.

I feel like doing the MC again beginning tomorrow. I ate Bananas this morning, but I don't think I'll have anything else except water today.

Just curious....when you're juice fasting, do you dilute your juices at all or just drink them straight?

I personally think I find MC easier because I don't have to juice anything (except the lemons/limes) or think about it t during the day. I just make up a gallon and sip off of it all day. And, I actually enjoy how it makes me feel. I do like juicing too, but I can't seem to stick with that as long.

I feel like doing the MC again, though... My body could use a break....

Gianni

I drink my juices pure. Sometimes I will add some lime juice to something sweet like apple juice.

I don't really like the taste of pure carrot juice either so I usually will juice in a zucchini to my carrot juice (3 or 4 carrots) and maybe add in something else like spinach. It really changes the drink and makes it much more palatable.

I find orange juice too strong neat. I cut it with either other juices or a little water. Cucumber juice I need to add so much to in order to remove the cucumber juice taste! And. . . it is the worst for spoiling too I find. I guess most people know how I feel about MC.

Even though I do want to start today, I'm actually gonna put it off because I have all this food leftover from the raw Demo that I just did. Once I eat up this food, I hope I'm still in the mindset to do it. It'll probably be a week so my next days off can be dedicated to it.

Hope you all enjoy your fasts...however you're fasting. :-)

why not just do a day or two. The food will keep :) It will get your body used to the idea that you do this now and then.

Especially after reading Aleesha's powerful post (in the blogging section) I'm really re-thinking my reasons for wanting to fast right now. I always get the whim to do it and then allow things to get in the way. I'm not focused or committed enough, in my opinion. I just have a desire.

So, this week I'm gonna enjoy my leftovers and meditate on my WHY for fasting. Once I really know that I can move forward with it on my next days off.

I'm fasting!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Actually we are fasting. Parz and I. We are finishing up day 5 I think??? Anyway, I'm in the zone big time! I love fasting when I'm in the zone. It's no effort at all. Actually it feels so nature to be fasting that I can't even imagine eating. I love it when I'm this space.

Lady Aredhel promised to fast with me for a few days... so I thought I'd bring it here for a bit!!!

Yippeee.... an nice fast for meeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee. Precious... it's mine mine mine. My fast *dancing and jigging*

In response to someone's question. I never dilute my juices unless they are thick.

Thanks Gianni, I will be looking out for you. I posted some questions that I have for you up on your visitor board. I will be going to Brazil for 6 months come December and I was hoping you could give me some tips and tricks.

We spent a few weeks in Brazil this August. Sao Paulo - such a busy place!

I love love love fennel in my juices. Just love it. Especially in my tom juice. mmmmm oddly enough I've only had one tom juice on this fast so far (I know - those of you who know me when fasting are shocked by this! I usually do tom juice every night of my fasts). I'm only craving apple juice. So apple, lime and ginger is all I'm doing at the moment. I did use up some other stuff (persimmons, pear and zucchini - oh and a cantaloupe as well). But really... all I want is apple.

I had a major bm today. Unfortunately I was not at home. Oh I hate having to go in a public washroom but I had NO choice. None. I had to go right then and there. I passed so much mucus... I was so pleased. I was grinning from ear to ear when I emerged from the stall. LOL Nothing better than seeing that your fast is making a difference. I love it when that happens.

I'm starting juicing today and committing to one week at least, I've examined my reasons and will focus on them this week. Juicing makes me nervous for some reason. I find MC easier cuz I don't have to think about it. Just make up the Lemonade and go. I am addicted to Lemons, so for this week I'm gonna sip on Lemon/Lime water between juices to keep the hunger at bay. I need to read up on juice fasting cuz I really don't know how to really do it, I mean how much to drink in a day and all. I really don't trust my body to tell me. So, we'll see how it goes...

Did you eat anything interesting or really tasty while you were there? The bananas (branca variety) are really good, especially if they are ripened naturally.

Now, I'm sipping Apple Juice...
Apple juice is a great drink. You might also try mixing in some ginger and pineapple with the apples and a lime or two. That's my favorite juice.

gianni, we tried pretty much every single fruit native to the area. we hired a guide to assist us and we went to markets and purchased all the amazing stuff they have there. guava juice became my favourite thing in the world - and sipping a young coconut IN the shel in a park was one of my fav things to do while we were there.

renee, i won't get into why i so dislike the MC but i'm so very happy to see you doing a juice fast! add heaps of lime and lemon to your juices... you don't have to give that up at all while juice fasting. i do a lot of lime in my juice.

waking up on day 6 (i think it is) and we are so committed to this fast. we are truly loving it!!!

Ooohhhh. Gianni that sound great!!!!! I'm gonna try that combination!!!!!

Aleesha, I just think I'm lazy! I need to get over that and juicing will be great for me, I know. A question...do you clean your juicer after every glass of juice, or between a few juices? Does the kind if juicer matter in this respect?

Just had a FABULOUS BM!!!!! I'm LOVING that Apple Juice I drank about now!!!!!

Aleesha Sattva
11-14-2012, 08:45 AM
Apple juice assists with some great BMs. We are having amazing results here with only drinking apple over the past 5 days.

Nee, I have a Greenstar so I can make the juice for the day all at once. But yes, you want to clean your juicer after ever use. OR let it soak in a bowl of water (the washable parts not the juicer LOL)

And you are NOT lazy. You create amazing raw delights... just put that energy into making juice for yourself!

and... finally... you need a LOTRs name...

ReneeH
11-14-2012, 10:58 AM
Ummmmmm...just Apple for 5 days! Wow! I totally wanna be adopted by you!!!

Being around my kids while they eat is getting to me already. I have to get out of this kitchen, so I'm making my Lemon Water and bolting to another part of the house. I've gone without food plenty of times till at least noon, so why am I trippin' about this? I can feel myself kinda getting evil for some reason...and it's only almost 11am!!!! What's the matter with me!!!

My last meal was last night about 6pm. I probably need to do some Tomato juice or something more than Apple that's more filling (cuz maybe I'm hungry already???? Or maybe it's just the thought of having no food...???), but in the mood I'm in I feel the need to be alone right now....

LOTR NAME: still Lemon-Née (cuz I luv my Lemons!)

Ah, yes, there is nothing like drinking chilled coconut juice right out of the nut.

Goiaba (guava) is a bit gritty but has a great flavor. During one of my juice feasts this year, I was mixing it in with apple juice. It added a nice flavor to it.

Ooohhhh. Gianni that sound great!!!!! I'm gonna try that combination!!!!!
Not sure what the weather is like now in Texas or how you like the temperature of your juices, but this mixture (apples, pineapple, lime, ginger) tastes really good icy cold. It's nice on hot days.

I came off my fast this morning. I don't find myself thinking of foods in a tempting way when I fast - juice or water only. I don't know why but it's something to do with me telling myself that the end of the world won't come if I don't eat that "whatever it is", that it doesn't matter if I don't eat that thing for a couple of days or a couple of weeks. I can eat it whenever I like but just not right now. If I did get a craving then generally it passes.

Aleesha Sattva

I remind myself that X Y and Z will not disappear off the face of the Earth while I'm fasting. They will still be here when I'm done and I can have them then. LOL

Great day today. We went out for quite awhile so we grabbed a litre of OJ each at Whole Foods. Sooooo glad our Whole Foods has a juice bar now. Such a luxury for us!

And yup... just apple at home. LOVIN' IT!

Picked up 48 pounds of apples today at Whole Foods for $36. GREAT deal for organic ambrosia apples! I'm pleased!!!

Aleesha Sattva
11-15-2012, 10:33 AM
If it's been sitting more than THREE days since it was made... it's not healthy anymore.

Go to their juice bar and get a fresh one!

Lady Aredhel, you know I love you... but I won't be juicing up a green lemonade anytime soon. The thought of it makes my tummy want to heave... LOL So when I come to visit you... you can drink it ALL!!!

Mystic, I posted about the Master Cleanse in my blog... just for you. (((hugs))) I don't want to post it here because everyone has a right to choose what they want to fast on. It's not my place to give them a hard time. I've gone on and on and on about it in the past. Just because I don't agree with something doesn't make me right and it wrong.

Kinda like people saying they started their fast at 6pm at night. As far as I'm concerned... if your belly has food in it it's not fasting! Hence why fasts don't count until you've had a full night of no eating behind you. But again... my opinion, doesn't mean anyone else has to share it.

MysticTree
11-15-2012, 11:57 AM
I think fasting counts from when you stop eating in the sense that you have taken the first step in the journey. Like a holiday starts when you actually arrive at the destination so as far as the body is concerned the early stages of a fast are like the getting to where you are going. I think most people could fast for at least 24 hours before the food was gone from their tummies. A person fasting refers to the time from when the faster stops eating and the body fasting describes the process once food in the GI tract is passed. Just my two penn'orth

Aleesha Sattva
11-15-2012, 12:40 PM
I think it's more about people wanting to make their fast seem like it was longer than it was LOL Like 36 hours is so much longer of a fast than one day.

Doesn't really matter... our bodies know what's what after all.

Parz and I just made a SUPER YUMMY JUICE!!! (all ingredients are organic)

ambrosia apples
ginger
lime and meyer lemons

in each litre of juice add one quarter of lime and one quarter of meyer lemon and a nice piece of ginger (as much or little as you like.)

it tastes like lemonade!!! oh mama it is soooooo goooooooood!!!

Parz added kale to his. I'm still not able to stomach anything green.

MysticTree
11-15-2012, 01:14 PM
It could be. Or it may just be a mark in time. It's hard to know when to consider it started otherwise. I know there is stuff still working its way through 60 hours from ceasing eating. So that means my water fast recently never got started by your definition really. Maybe that's why I had no problems with how I broke the fast!

Aleesha Sattva
11-15-2012, 01:26 PM
I meant when your tummy is done not your entire digestion but, that said, your real fasting/cleansing begins after day three.

Bottom line Whatever motivates you DO IT!!!!!

You know how a new first time mom tells you her baby's age is weeks or months? Like "oh he's 16 months" or "5 weeks and 3 days". While a mom who has a few kids says "oh he's almost one" LOL. I think that's the difference here.

And I'm grumpy today. So I will apologize now. It's one of "those" days.

MysticTree
11-15-2012, 01:41 PM

I hit a tiny road block.

I felt, in an instant that I just didn't want to fast anymore. I wanted to go eat X Y and a lot of Z. I was cold, pacing the floor and went and got myself some juice. Then I thought, "Okay what can I do to change the way I feel? I'm not going to stop fasting so what can I do?"

I realized that having a bath would take care of the cold part. So off to the bath I went. I sipped my juice in the bath and meditated for a bit. Now I feel great and centred and balanced again. Niiiiice.

So remember this... when you feel like you can't go any further on your fast. See what you can change IN THAT MOMENT to assist you to feel better. Do it and see if it doesn't just help you through that rough patch.

Off to relax...

Hello Everyone,

I am just finishing up my second day of the MC and thought I would come on here and share my journey and get motivation/ give motivation. I do have a question for fellow fasters/ previous fasters. How do you deal with unsupportive people at home? I live with my boyfriend and he is very against what I am doing or any type of fast or cleanse and is very negative about it. I appreciate any advice or tips. Thanks a bunch everyone, and happy fasting.

I don't deal with unsupportive people - I ignore them. I know what's good for my body and I honour that. But... the more you learn the better. Knowledge is empowering. When you have knowledge about what you are doing then you have something intelligent to share with them when they are doubting what you are doing.

People are so used to me fasting... they don't even bother questioning it anymore.

Today Parz and I are going to do water... *cheers*

I'm lucky that people around me are supportive ... or is it that I only choose to surround myself with supportive people :)

Hello all. Quick question: Would it be alright to water fast throughout the day and have maybe two juices or smoothies in the evening/at night? Or would that be considered starving myself? I'm trying to create my own version of a detox, I guess.

juice yes.
a smoothie in the evening with only water during the day would be too hard on your body in my opinion.

Today is my third day on a juice fast. I have no set time to fast, other than as long as possible. I have no intention of going past Christmas if I make it that long. Starting next week, I'll be trying to water fast with the Monday fasting club. I've really got to try that green lemonade!

oh i so dislike that green lemonade LOL

How have you made it in the past? I love it so much!! I usually put: kale, Celery, Apples, Lemon, and Ginger.

I'm beginning a short fast today, at least for a few days. I have tons of veggies and a case of Thai Coconuts, so I'm good to go!!!

We are starting another fast today. Not sure how short or long it'll be. It will be perfect regardless :)

I have tried green lemonade the way Lady Aredhel makes it and I dislike it greatly.

I do loooooooove apple, heavy mint, lime and ginger though. Perhaps I can pretend that a green lemonade LOL

Today is day six and I've been doing good. For some reason I find it much easier to fast than to resist unhealthy foods while I'm eating raw. I've been extremely busy wrapping up this fall quarter of school but think of this forum often when things get rough. Yesterday was the hardest day for me so far, but I got through it! Good luck to all those on the journey!
