Hey guys,

i have been water fasting for 14 days, 3 months ago.
I usually planned to fast for 40 days, since i have already fasted at least 10 times for like 7 days, mostly.

It was a very nice experience, but after 13 days of fasting i got such a big nausea, it is like you are almost going to die... i was really extremely nauseous and i have vomited a lot, where there was just nothing to vomit, so i was sitting on my couch for over 6 hours and i felt like i was literally dying, i tried everything, taking an enema and what not, nothing seemed to help in that moment, my explanation for that is just, that too much toxins have been released way too quickly. I was also drinking chlorella everyday to bind that toxins, but seems like it did not helped me at the end, then i just started to eat light processed food right away, and chewed it a lot and so basically i ruined my water fast, but it fixed my nausea.

Now i am going to try it again, but i will include lots of green juices.

Do you have any ideas what to do, to not get into such states of nausea, i mean really, i can not even put into words, how crazy that was. At least to keep that nausea low.

My idea was to just include some natural liver supplements or add natural sugar every third day into my fast, since the sugar is feeding candida and maybe other bacteria, and it kinda balances it out, and slows down the detox, if you know what i mean.

But i really want to do fasting again, like i said, modifed with green juices, not a juice fast with fruits and vegetables but with greens, since i think the main cause was that toxins released to fast because of water only. It is just the easiest way for me to get through.

Would be nice if you can help me out in that particular case.

Thank you. :)

This is almost certainly down to your liver and gall bladder. The "extreme" fasting causes your gall bladder to release bile to help the liver cope. This makes for nausea and vomiting or in old fashioned language billiousness. Adding juices in gently should help enormously. I had the same when I water fasted but the nausea kicked in at about day 10. After 12 days I switched to juice.

As I see it, this is likely caused by the introduction of the chlorella on a water fast. It being equivalent to dried food. Your digestive system is going from a shut down state back into digestion mode without enough or proper food to safely break the fast or handle the digestive juices caused by the chlorella. In agreement with the bile production, but also hydrochloric acid and other digestive juices are introduced. Without sufficient food and properly breaking the fast, nausea is likely to come. Your pancreas was in a state of rest as well, and it is responsible for producing bicarbonates to buffer the stomach juices but they are added farther down the line, iirc. Maybe due to the very little food (only chlorella supplements) in the digestive tract the pancreas is not signaled yet to produce enough bicarbs, and then that it may take time for it to catch up. Fasting in itself may eat up your bicarbs.....you'd have to do more research on this.

I think the use of supplements would best be done during a juice fast unless and until you know your body can handle them on water only. I think our bodies know well enough how to handle elimination of toxins in a water fast without having to add supplements to assist it.
When you suffer the nausea again you could add a half teaspoon baking soda to a half glass of water and down that (to replace what your sleeping pancreas would normally do during digestion mode). I think that will buffer the stomach acid without turning on digestion. It should help the nausea. Or you could simply add more water to dilute the digestive juices if you feel the need to use supplements.

Thank you very much for your help.

I had also episodes of nausea starting from day 7, but it continued to become stronger.
So after you switched to juice your nausea was actually gone ?

Like i have mentioned it, in that moment i tried everything i had in my house, including baking soda, i took one teaspoon with some water and 5 minutes later i was sitting in my bathroom and vomited it out. I have been drinking about 4 liters of water everyday. In that moment of nausea i also drank half a liter but i just vomited it out a few minutes later, it was crazy.

SS is right about chlorella making it worse. I can't take it when I eat, let alone when I don't. Due to mobile surfing I missed that element of your post. Also, drinking lots of water as opposed sipping will induce vomiting. Drinking juice (very slowly, just sips, don't guzzle!) fixed the nausea totally.

Thank you, MysticTree.

This sounds very helpful to me.

I also would not use chlorella in these circumstances...had similar experiences in fact.
all best

Update for some of you guys, that stumbled across this thread:

I just finished day 10 of my "water" fast again, i have started to experience the same kind of problems again.

I have found an extremely helpful solution for this. It seems like it made not really a difference, whether i remove the chlorella or not. My solution is to just drink one or two glassed of the master cleanse lemonade, when the nausea becomes very strong. It helps to calm down, almost instantly.

The natural sugar in the maple sirup seems to slow the detox a little bit down and lemons are known, to help against nausea also.

For same result, just juice a sweet fruit and add some lemon juice or have lemon and honey. Much better for you than the MC lemonade and raw, which MC lemonade is not. Water fasting has a very powerful effect on the body. I do just 36 hours a week and 4.5 days was the max before I felt the side effects out weighed the benefits.
