View Full Version : Starting a 60 day fast....

I'm blogging my progress. I'm starting this fast at 340 pounds.
For my three day fast, I'm drinking beet (one whole beet with the greens), ginger, apple (3), carrot (6), cranberry (1 cup) juice. I make it the day before, dilute it with water so it yields 1 liter. To supplement I'm eating a cup of raw carrots and a cup of grapes. Also drinking 32 ounces of coffee and 2 gallons of water.
This is day one. Over the weekend I tried to juice during the day, then eat a "normal" meal (what I used to consider normal). I got headaches.

Good luck with it but I have to say it doesn't really sound like a fast and the coffee is probably a really bad idea.

Yes, the coffee is bad. I normally drink 64 ounces, so this is a huge step. Of course, the headache is coming on this afternoon. The carrots and grapes helped A LOT when lunch came. I'm a teacher and I help supervise lunch. Seeing all those kids eat all the foods I enjoy is quite a challenge. I'm glad I had my fruits and veggies to fall back on, and it MUCH better than my ham & cheddar wrap with chips and a soda on the side.
When does craving stop though?

Day 2! I feel good, although a little sluggish. No coffee this morning! That is a huge step for me. Not surprisingly, I feel less stressed.
I'm doing green juice today.
Kale, Swiss Chard, Ginger, & Lime. The greens came from my own garden & are 'organic' (I had to use Sevin once over the summer because of aphids and cabbage worms).
The juice is a bit bitter, but is good. I think I'll do the same tomorrow, but add a beet and carrots to it. Minus the lime.

Good luck! I am starting a juice and smoothie fast today. Perhaps we can be fasting buddies!

When you are eating while you are fasting (and consuming coffee) your cravings won't stop. Your hunger won't go into rest mode. It'll stay very awake and yelling for food. LOL
If you want to fast, you'll need to cut out the coffee as it's a stimulant and VERY harmful to your organs while fasting. And you need to stop eating.
Of course, if you want to do a raw 30 day challenge with lots of juice... then that's a different story. You'll need to increase your raw foods.
Depending on the type of juicer you are using you may not be getting any nutrition at all from your juices.
I highly recommend you take some time to a) hire a fasting coach or b) research fasting before continuing. What you are doing now if harming your body, not assisting it.

Aantaya,
I concur with everything that Aleesha is saying. I too am transitioning into a fast. Right now I am at the smoothie stage. I am not going to go to the “juice only stage” just yet, not until I can let loose of my coffee addiction. Bottom line is that it can be dangerous to consume coffee on a fast. It looks like you are trying to cut down which is really good, but you need to have a goal of letting go of it entirely if you want to get hardcore into the fast.
Anyhow, know that you are not alone. I too am going through the very same thing as you at the moment. Right now I am down to one cup of coffee a day. By this time next week I hope to be done with coffee drinking and immersed in juice only.
Good luck to you,
Crystal

I'll throw my 2 cents in. First, I want to commend aantaya for having the courage to even undertake this endeavor. We all know it isn't easy to do especially when you have to be at work and when there are so many temptations around at home or at work. Remember, if you fall off the bike, you get back on when you feel the time is right and when you are ready.
One thing, 1 liter of watered down juice is not going to keep a big guy like you satisfied. You should try juice feasting instead. That is drinking as much fresh fruit and vegetable juice as you desire. You will still lose weight and it will be easier to stay on the fast. When I fast, I drink roughly 4 liters of pure fresh juice a day, 3 liters of that being fruit juice, and 1 liter of vegetable juice.
I would also suggest in the future you wait for summer holidays to undertake such a serious fast.

You can fast any time of the year so you don't need summer to do it but I agree... up your juices.
And please... wait to fast until you are off the coffee. (((hugs))) your heart, liver and other lovely organs will thank you!
