I find pure carrot juice a little strong for my likes so I like to cut it with zucchini juice. So I may juice 3 large carrots, 1 zucchini, and then maybe a bit of spinach.
You might try cutting your carrot juice with something like zucchini or orange juice and/or maybe a tiny bit of water.

Your esoph was likely still irritated from overnight acid reflux because your digestion is not complete. That caused your esophageal sphincter to not close fully, and this is because you are taking ppi's, which reduce your stomach acid. Low stomach acid does not allow digestion to complete fully. The esophageal sphincter is closed by a gas signal from gas produced at the completion of digestion in the stomach. When that gas is not produced in high enough quantity the valve does not close tight, and stomach contents leak into the esoph during stomach contractions.
The oil in a banana when eaten, may serve to coat your esoph and sooth or protect it a bit.

Do you practice the heel drop method to correct the hernia? It worked well for me.

I went through it too and it took some time but I did get better. ACV, or apple cider vinegar can be taken after a meal to help complete digestion and close the valve. Start with say a teaspoon in a short glass of water. YOu will wnat to keep the water with a meal to a minimum so as not to dilute stomach acid, but use some water to dilute the vinegar or it may burn the esoph going down. Honey or stevia can be used to make it more palatable. HCL supplements may be needed for some people. There is a way to check for the dosage of hcl that will suit you......I think you take a capsule every fifteen minutes until you feel a slight heartburn. The dose you would use is just before the one that brought on the burn. That's hydrochloric acid-what your stomach produces.
I used Brenda Watsons H.O.P.E. program to help me out of my reflux and digestive problems. High Fiber, Omegas, Probiotics, and Enzymes are the protocol she recommends. This can easily be implemented with a raw food diet. I did the hope stuff first, but finding RawFoodTalk.com and adjusting my diet further assisted greatly, too. Raw food, reducing the cooked oils and cooked foods, eliminating coffe/tea/caffeine/tobacco (if you consume any) should help too.
For the heel drop to relieve the hernia, you get up first thing in the morning after a nights rest (so stomach is relaxed) and drink a tall glass of body temp or warmer water. Warm is need to keep the stomach relaxed. If you drink cold it may spasm or tighten.
After drinking the glass of water-say about 16 0z or more, you rise up on your toes and then quickly relax your calves and drop down onto your heels. Repeat this several times - you can go as long as you like but at some point you may feel a gurgle or squishing sound take place. That is what I would notice when it would slip back into proper positon. What this does is to pull the upper part of the stomach downward from protruding through the hernia. The weight of the water in your stomach, through inertia, does the work. You can also do it by dropping down on your seat after rising slightly off a chair from a sitting position. I put my hands on the top of a door jamb furing the heel drop, but it is not necessary. You will want to be dropping down kind of abruptly, but don't do so much as to hurt your heels or sits bones when you start.

I have the same juicer! (I love it)
You're so brave to delve into a juice of just carrot and celery! I have a hard time with juices that aren't very palletable.
I have esophegeal reflux as well. I find that the burning from carrot juice is not related to the burn from the reflux. This is very interesting to read as I don't actually know much about it.
I DO know that my mom aways told me to stay away from anything acidic, but over time I've realized that it doesn't seem to be the oranges and lemons and tomatoes that trigger the reflux.
I'd love to know exactly what's going on though!
Good job again on the hard-core juice! I love juicing! I hope you will too!

You're very welcome. Forgive me for being so opinionated about this. PPI's took me in a quick downward spiral, until I found out how they work and what the real causes of reflux are. These may not be your problems and there may be other things better suited for your condition. Keep searching for answers. Water fasting was another tool I used to heal the throat and gut.
You might find fennel bulb added to the juice soothing for the stomach, or fennel tea from the seeds. I wish you well.

im right with you for over a year ive been feeling the ppis are causing me more problems then helping, and over the last 2-3 years ive read so much bad about them ive been wanting to get off of them for awhile but have always been scared of the rebound
now i actually found a dr thats on board with me doing this and im going to take the big leap and start to taper off of them and figure juicing can only help the process
if i get fennel bulb how much do i put in the juice considering im drinking around 10oz a day right now and is there anything i have to do to it before never used it before for anything
i take fennel capsules with meals

I love carrot-celery juice, although I use only 4 organic carrots to 3-4 whole organic celery bunches. Carrot juice is way too sweet for me!

My wife tells me that fennel is cleansing for the liver so using a lot might lead to detox symptoms. I usually used an inch or two slice off the bulb or peeled one or two layers off.
DGL (deglyccerized licorice) tablets helped me a lot too. They increase blood supply to the stomach if I remember right. I would nibble on several after a meal when reflux was bad. Another Brenda Watson suggestion.
The use of ppi's put me into a dysbiotic state in the intestines, so I had to supplement probiotics and eat a lot of fermented foods to correct that. Just tossing out more ideas to try. As I think of what else I did I will post back.
you might also use some slippery elm and make a tea of it. Comfrey tea may be helfpul as well.

the issue of mucked up stomach acid levels is one of the most interesting topics I find. I don't have problems but my mother does a little and I must ask her how she is doing with her much more raw approach! I have a friend who has much greater problems and I will pass on Brenda Watson's name to her to see if she can sort herself out.

chunk of ginger
*Blend with ice - refreshing!
>the ginger is a great anti-inflamitory for after your workout.

Wow, Streetsurfer, so knowledgeable....or at least, you have me fooled....LOL
Now do any of you knowledgeable folks have any ideas for a 3 mo. old infant who is having bad reflux....seems to have milk allergies so his mom stopped nursing....now he's tried every formula out there and just isn't thriving?
TIA,

the baby is probably not doing will with mom's milk because of mom's diet :-) tell her to stay away from foods as if she has acid reflux or GERD and see how the baby does. I've read online of a story where a woman didn't get real acid reflux problems until she started taking the meds and I was shocked. So for a 3 month old to be on meds for it seems drastic but tell the mom to try changing her own diet and then reattempt breast-feeding. Even as a raw-foodist you can ingest foods that can agrivate the stomache. I love tomatoes but now that I have GERD I no longer eat them as much as I used to...yes I miss them :-) I hope this works out...let me know if she tries it :-)

After a workout you should juice with potassium rich foods.
Potassium is one of the main electrolytes in your body, which gets lost during a strenuous workout. Juicing potassium rich food is the best way to get these vital nutrients replenished.
If you can drink it - the green leafy veggies like Swiss chard and Spinach have the highest potassium levels.
There is also these items you can try - http://www.juicing-benefits-toolbox.com/foods-high-in-potassium.html

you don't have to wait at all. your body absorbs the nutrients from juice very quickly.

I had the same issues gastritis and acid reflux and it's completely cured now. Juicing helps it and so does a raw diet, but not overnight. For me it took a couple of weeks for the symptoms to go away and a few months for it be gone completely (in other words it doesn't come back if I eat normal for a couple of days) anymore, it's just gone. That being said in the beginning even healthy foods will give you symptoms, but over time they will dissipate after your insides heal up and start working correctly again. I juice one to 3 times a day now with no problems.
Oh and I don't go too heavy on the carrots I only have carrot juice a couple of times a week because it's so rich. I usually do green juices (celery, parsley, cucumbers, apples, a little lemon, spinach, kale, beets, ginger) those are my regulars in different combinations.

@ scott I get a burst of energy from juice immediately you don't have to wait to feel it like with coffee, but I usually wait about an hour before running or working out so I don't cramp.

I would look into the work of Brenda Watson and Dr. Steve Hines out of Texas. They're digestive wizzards! ;) My first guess would be low hydrochloric acid levels? You might try cutting the juice with 50% water to ease your way into it. :)
