View Full Version : 5 Questions about wheatgrass

1. I was trying to figure out how much wheatgrass juice to drink a day and how much wheatgrass I will need to grow to get that much juice. So, if I'm growing in cafeteria trays (the Ann Wigmore way), how much juice can I get out of one tray?
2. And how much juice should one person drink in a day?
3. I've heard that some animals eat grass when they're sick. So does that mean we should only juice wheatgrass when we're sick, and to stop juicing it when we're healthy?
4. I've heard that there are 400 different kinds of grass (don't know if that's true or not) but there is a lot anyway - what makes wheatgrass so special (the prefered grass)?
5. Can anyone recommend a good manual wheatgrass juicer?
Thank you

1. How big are those trays?
2. Start with no more then 2 or 3 oz, and drink it SLOWLY, don't guzzle or you may be sick. Work your way up to 6 or 8 oz/day, and drink a few glasses of other sprout juices every day as well, you'll feel amazing after a few months. You may find this thread (http://www.rawfoodtalk.com/showthread.php?68827-Sprouting-for-Juicing) to be useful.
3. NO. An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure; drink enough sprout + grass juices daily and you'll NEVER get sick.
4. All of the cereal grasses (wheat, barley, oat, rye, even spelt and kamut) are the best, I think that's why those are the grasses that we ended up cultivating hundreds/thousands of years ago. Ann Wigmore did experiments with various different grasses, she found out that animals preferred the wheatgrass and would eat it over any of the others. Animals are smart when it comes to things like that.
5. Lots of good ones; if it's made with stainless steel it's good quality.
Wheatgrass is amazing stuff, and a tray costs only 50 cents a day, give or take. Other wonderful sprouts to juice almost every day are sunflower greens, pea shoot greens, fenugreek greens, chia greens, alfalfa sprouts, red clover sprouts.
Sorry for the vague replies, as it happens I'm up to my neck in wheatgrass studies right now so I'll get back to you in more detail later.

i also have cut up grass into one inch bits so it doesnt wrap around blender blade
with blender 2/3 full of water and blended a few hundred blades of grass
you then strain out grass and have a wheat grass water
imo nothing at all wrong with this method besides a bit of airation
any cheap blender works

Animals eat grass when they are sick so they can rid their stomachs of what is irritating it. So you know what that means...lol.

Can a Blendtec be used for wheatgrass? I was hoping that the high speed would pulverize the grass, so no need to strain it, and I get all the nutrition. Would that work?

Sounds like the animals don't eat grass for the nutritional benefits at all, but just to make themselves throw up. Surely that's not the case, why would we want to eat it then?

Animals definitely eat grass for the nutritional benefits. My dogs + cats eat it all the time and never throw up.
Drinking a lot of grass juice at one time will make you throw up though, you have to work up to larger amounts.
