hey,
I'm currently on my 5th day of water fasting and I fasting for health reasons and to kind of reset my taste buds....I currently feel horrible...weak, dull aches on the right side of my head, mouth feels disgusting and my throat feels a bit scratchy....My jaw was hurting this morning but that's better for the most part and I'm tired but not tired at the same time. Can't concentrate and I feel cold but at the same time I feel warm if that makes any sense at all...
I was wondering if this is normal for day 5 in the fast? will it get better?
I'm 191lbs and 5 foot 4 and I'm 20 years old...

water fasting can be very difficult.
make sure you are not taking anything with taste in your mouth, that includes toothpaste. it'll help you to not feel as bad.
but honestly, with water fasting almost everyone feels like crap.
but the benefits to your health is HUGE.

ok so not using toothpaste can help - I'll try that...any tips on dealing with bad breath or is it just part of the fast?
Thanks, both of your posts have made me feel a bit better :)

to me fastings like jogging = one jog / fast isnt going to do alot
but its rather a habit that must be formed long term to get major gains out of
so i no longer get wrapped up in pressuring myself to make every fast a big miracle event that i must push to the limit
i more so put pressure on myself to set a schedule of short fast i must stick to all year , as ive done with my weekly 48 hours fasts starting every sunday 6pm
then when im feeling it or a groups setting out on a long term i push it further
and like jogging after your doing habitual jogs they get easier
but instead of legs n heart getting stronger your cleaning out all your cells / tissues / organs / etc of unwanted pollution
so entire bodies getting in better shape externally n internally
also . i buy cheap tooth brushes at dollar store so on fasts i can go through a brush every 4 days or so . i use
the brushes to brush pollution expelled from esophogus off tongue . after each yoose (yoose instead of use) i
place brush in coffee cup full of water n dish soap or peroxide or alchohol to clean . though i guess there are
tongue scrapers but ive never used one
and ive confered with many fasters that skin brush plus take hot baths with epson salt n other things like essential oils to helps remove built up pollution from skin thats being pushed outduring fasts
and many believe in cleansing powers / mucous busting powers of lemon on fasts , plus lemon in warm water supresses my appetite

yeah never really thought of doing short fasts throughout the year....I think after this fast I'll most likely try fasting intermediately throughout the year :) Going from a extreme SAD diet to water only and then I want to become at least 80% raw after this there's gonna be a lot of toxin I imagin :/
oh I'm gonna try the whole peroxide thing on my toothbrush - never thought about that! Thanks for the tip
I'm actually feeling great right now :D Woke up with energy and besides the dull headache I feel awesome :)

hot baths should not be taken while fasting... it's very hard on your heart. warm baths are fine... just not hot (showers should not be hot either).
on a water fast... just water is all you brush with. bad breath is detox. you just gotta deal with it (or the people around you do LOL)
the more you rest on a water fast the better your healing. you only have so much energy... do you want to use it to heal or do other things? the choice is yours but when water fasting most people are doing it for healing so resting is a very good idea.
and every fast makes a difference to your health. you are gifting your body something beautiful. remember that. :hug

I've been sticking with luke warm showers...I haven't been able to handle heat well since starting the fast :/
I'll definitly remember that :)
Having a hard time...more with the cravings...I keep thinking about pizza and I haven't had it in months and was fine but now it's like it's the best thing in the world and I need to have it lol eh....
also...do you have any idea what causing a tingling in fingers during a fast....It's not too noticeable but it's there...similar to when your arm falls asleep but not as severe :/ Could it be down to blood circulation?

i'm not sure... it may be.
as for your cravings. i believe that when we have cravings while fasting it's actually that food being detoxed from your body. not a craving at all (but we interpret it as one).
so instead... look at it as cleansing! "Man I'm so glad that old yucky pizza is now outta the cells of my body!"

I kept that cleansing idea in mind and it helped a lot, thanks! :) Cravings aren't bad now and well I feel great today! more energy. Today marks 1 week :) So happy to have made it this far and am curious how long I'll go :)

Made it to day 9 so far!!!! :D So happy! I've noticed by sense of smell has gotten a lot better which might not be that good lol....in class today there's subway 4 floors down from were we have class and all throughout class I could smell it :/ Right now my roommates making something with meat and the smell of the meat is actually making me gag...which it good considering meat used to be my biggest weakness lol but still...yuck!
Also...woke up at like 3am last night with horrible stomach cramps....I'm fine now but I got really achy and broke out into a cold sweat along with the cramps...at least I know my bodies detoxing something, at least I hope that's what it was
Also, just generally achy for example my legs and back ache the most if I don't sit up straight or I sit on a hard surface...It's not too bad though!
Weight wise I'm at 188.6 and it's noticeable in my clothes :)
I'm going strong though and really am thankful I haven't given in...day 9 is the longest fast I've done and I'm still going! :D

well today is day 13 and I'm thinking about going to either day 21 or 30 depending on how I feel...right now I just have a lot of boredom but not much else going on....I'm a little irritable and have a slight headache but a lot better than I was at the start :)
I'm curious...to break my fast I'm thinking of doing 10 days of smoothies (nothing too big just something with watermelon, berries, or apples - I can't get a juicer just yet) and then after about a week or two introduce some vegetable soups, and then after another 10 days of this introduce salads and grains...
Would this me an OK plan to break the fast with? I know I can't handle anything too big after a fast (I did a two day one and didn't break correctly and was in so much pain) so I want to be careful and be sure I'm on the right track :)
