Check this link out too, it has tons of video clips on it so when you have a little free time watch some when you can. http://www.petatv.com/veg.html
Wow, I saw Analeah's post on this forum and visited this link to watch the video clips. I cried the whole time while watching the "Meet your Meat" video hosted by Alec Baldwin. I emailed this link to several friends and family members.
Hope everyone doesn't mind me bumping this post so some of the newbees can see it. Its another vivid reason to not cave into eating meat -- that's for sure. If you haven't already seen the videos and you're "struggling" with cravings for meat, these videos may help to combat those cravings.
To see Analeah's post, you can also just search for "meatrix". I had discovered that flash animation and was going to post it here but then realized it was already covered. I found http://www.themeatrix.com to be both informational and entertaining and alot less emotional than the "Meet your Meat" video -- might be good for older kids? Anyway, hope these links are useful for some of you.
On a happy note, this RAW diet is working out so well for me!!! This morning, I went shopping for some more jeans, I just dropped from a size 31/30 down to 30/30 (Levi's carpenter style). Wow, I would NOT have even thought that was possible. That's down from 34/30 jeans I was wearing a few months back on the cooked diet. The thing is, I thought I was eating healthy on the cooked diet. This RAW thing has really worked well for me!!!! Thanks Alissa, Victoria Boutenko, Hallelujah Acres, my wife and family, and all the great people on this forum whose posts I enjoy reading.
Best regards, Gil

~~~~~~~ This is disturbing, don't read unless you're prepared to read about animal cruelty ~~~~~~~
I feel like crying myself. :( And I've been a meat eater all my life. My husband worked at Maple Leaf farms, big chicken producer here in Canada, he left for lunch on his very first day and never went back... He couldn't handle the way they were treating the animals. He watched with his own eyes how they grab the chickens by the legs and wack their heads against the ground to keep them from squirming while they're hanging by their legs. This is no joke, this is really what it's like... :( Yet we have still been eating meat. He worked there before I met him, and he did not eat chicken for years. Why we still eat meat I have no idea. Habits die hard I guess. Watching these videos just now is a huge wake-up call. Not only what they are doing to the animals and how they are suffering, but they are full of disease, antibiotics and growth hormones. Is that something I really want to consume?? I think not!! :(
This is going to help me in my quest to become 100% raw vegan.
I feel awful right now though. :(
Debra
I am not a vegetarian or a raw foodest.
I came to this site to learn about raw for my daughter.
I just ate 4 chicken legs for diner.
And boy oh boy I wish I didnt.
Now I feel sick to my stomach after seeing the documentary on a chickens life.
What have I been thinking?
I guess I go to the store and dont really think of them as animals.?
I even worked for Purdue for 2 years.
And I have horror stories from that place; but that was over 10 years ago and that video made me remember all of the bad things.
I can honestly say I will never pick up another piece of meat again.
BLAHHHH.
Thank you for posting that link!
I dont know if I will ever be raw; maybe I will attempt it during the summer because the winter bares un-yummy fruit. (IMO)
But as on NOW I will be a vegetarian. Now I am off to a book store to find some books on veggie; vegan and raw!
I am a bit scared because i dont know what to do next; but wish me luck!
God Bless
Mom, I'm so glad you've posted again. I've been wondering how you're doing after your first post!
I'm so with you... I highly doubt I will eat any meat after today. I've been really struggling with cooked food cravings in trying to go raw, but some days I've done very well. Though after today, if I give in to cooked foods, I highly doubt it will ever include meat!!
Yuck. :(
I wish you much luck in your journey into a new lifestyle. You have support here whenever you need it.
Good luck to you on your endeavors... Alissa's book is really good as I'm sure you've probably heard by now. I also like the
(click here - Hallelujah Acres) (http://www.hacres.com) web site and quarterly newsletters. I often point people to this site if they're just starting out into becoming a vegetarian. However, there's an overwhelming supply of information for you to read via books, magazines, web sites, etc...
I saw that video last year, It was pretty good. My wife and I have not ate meat since 1987 I got to tell you I don't miss it at all. I think of it as Decaying flesh eeeeeeeeeewwwwwwww Bactiera Yukkie stuff. Now fruits and veggies taste really good. They don't need anyting to make them taste good you just eat them juice them. Plus Raw foods pay you back bigtime. They heal your body and make you feel good. Give you the power to sing and dance and be happy all day. Unlike meat when you eat alot of that you feel like Ug let me just go lay down on the couch and take a nap. But we know all this. So many don't and get sick and have problems, have to take meds that really don't fix anything, and give side affects, that are sometimes worse then the problem your taking them for. Doug in Calif...... :eek:
Thank you for posting this link again Gil. It had been a long time since I'd checked out their video clips.
I cried my eyes out watching "Meet your Meat" and although I've been a vegetarian since December 26, 1987 and vegan off and on through the years... this just reinforces my chosen lifestyle as raw food VEGAN!
I wish I could get others in my family (and friends too) to view this, but it falls on deaf ears as they don't want to SEE that this is how it is because of what they eat. They demand it so it continues to happen.
Paul McCartney once said... "If slaughterhouses had glass walls, everyone would be vegetarian."
I was raised on a small farm in Texas and I can honestly say that our animals were never treated so horribly. I am so upset over watching those animals that I am ready to write congress and I will write them this week.
What is wrong with people??? I'm just stunned. Who are these people that can do this? What is wrong with humans that we think we can treat other living beings this way? Sigh. :(
"Meet Your Meat" is a good one. Also, I would recommend "Peaceable Kingdom".
I watched Meet Your Meat and became vegan overnight! I was a huge meateater too(loved my steaks rare), now I see others eating meat and get sick to my stomach. How can people keep some animals as pets and then eat other ones?
(sorry for diverging) I've got a pet dilemma. My kids would like a pet, preferably a dog. But I can't stand having meat in our house. Rats can be vegan, but they chew everything, and need to be kept locked away somewhere when there is no-one around (and I do not like locking anyone). A rabbit is vegan, but it would eat all our greens... What to doodle do?
Gosia, my dog eats raw vegan with the exception of organic eggs blended and poured over his food. He has never looked better!
BUNNIES LOVE HAY (DRIED) AND GRASS ( i'M SURE THEY WOULD LOVE THE PULP ) THE DROPPINGS ARE GREAT IN A GARDEN & THEY CAN BE LITTER TRAINED.
Thanks for the replies!
Dawn, we grow greens in our garden, and my guess is that nothing would stop a rabbit from eating them???
Sweetgoddess, what exactly does your dog eat (on daily basis)? And, what did your dog eat as a puppy? (I read that puppies need meat)
Thanks!
Again, sorry for diverging a little. (I am not diverging entirely, as my wish is to stay away from buying meat, even for a pet.)
I am sitting here having just watched "Meet Your Meat" :eek: :mad: . I generally think of myself as a hard cookie but at the moment I am shaking and nauseas.
I struggle to be raw because I have always LOVED meat, ground beef especially. Thank you so much for posting this as in an instant it has made the meat issue for me. . . an issue no longer. I am just stunned. I am stunned just stunned. . . . . .how can people live with themselves, how can there be such utter cruelty. . I am ashashed to be human at the moment. I just want to somehow appologise to all those suffering creatures. . .I'm just stunned, just stunned.
Rats make super pets! I had four and had a tall cage for them. They got to be out and about in my room for two hours a day. The down side is that they don't live as long as a dog/cat, but that shouldn't keep someone from having them as pets. They really are so wonderful.
Click Here (http://www.petatv.com/veg.html)
Once you arrive at the site, there are instructions on the top of the page so you can download the zip file. Just click the "Download video" link to start the dowload. The file is a .zip file and will need to be unzipped before launching.
Hope this helps, Gil
Gil, I appreciate it and thank you for the directions. However, it's going to take nearly 5 hours to download with dial-up, soooooooooo that's not going to happen. It will kick me off long before that. :(
