I've read various places that as one is raw longer and longer, you tend to 'mono' eat instead of create dishes with several different ingredients, spices, etc., and that it is better for you to eat this way.
I can picture mono eating when it comes to fruit - eating several bananas, apples, mangos, etc, at one sitting, ... but how would one do that with vegetables? I can't picture myself sitting down to a plate of chopped up acorn or butternut squash for example.
thoughts????

A lot of mono-eaters tend to be semi-fruitarians, eating sweet fruits or greens. I've also never heard of people sitting down and mono-eating a squash. Whenever I mono-eat, it's generally sweet fruits or a head or two of romaine.

Definitely will find that you will just keep things simpler (mono meals). I love a plate of veggies cut up and do it every day. Cucumbers, celery, carrots, peppers, tomatoes. Its amazing how much food we DON'T need. I believe fruit is the staple of the diet with added veggies to it. Nuts ice the cake.........but (not a lot of icing that is) :p

I prefer mono eating, even veggies. I haven't tried a whole plate of squash, because I can't get past the starchy taste, but if I did eat it, why not all alone? I might mix a bowl of berries, but everything else I just perfer by itself. Although I may eat three stalks of celery and when I'm done grab a handful of carrots. So maybe that isn't considered mono.

Many times I have eaten only carrots for a meal, or celery or cauliflower. Once I took a head of cauliflower out of the frig and announced to hubby, "Lunch is ready!" haha :D So simple.
Ooops, I forgot cucumbers. In the summer I'll eat 2 or 3 from our garden for a meal. YUM

I would have a very hard time eating winter squash myself. I think it is just too hard and starchy.
But a head of celery, or a head of romaine, or a couple of cukes seems more eater-friendly.

I do it all the time. Just eat something by it's self many times. Mostly fruits. Then maybe a couple hours later switch to something else. It works for me Doug in Calif........

Thanks to everyone for your input.
I've been raw over a year now, and am feeling the need to simplify things a bit for a while. Think I'll ease into it and see how it goes. I say that just after I've made a scrumptious Date Nut Torte! :)

When I mono eat I also tend to do this with fruits and not veggies. It is very refreshing and so easy on the digestive system. And easier for me to do in the summer than now in the cold fall/winter weather when I tend to eat heavier so your Date Nut Torte is sounding really good right now Terry! I think I have a few pieces left in the freezer from the last time I made it... off to find some right now!

Just wanted to share with you that I did mono eating tonight. Some friends and I were hired to play bluegrass music at a Pig Roast. Knowing that there would be little or no food for me, I packed a head of romaine lettuce in a baggie, and tossed some dates and dried bananas in other baggies. By the way, the 8 medjool dates were long gone even before we arrived. :D While everyone else ate the Pig and cooked food smorgasboard; I enjoyed my romaine lettuce without any problem whatsoever. I had asked my band members to follow me away from the rest of the crowd so as not to draw attention to me sitting there chomping on romaine lettuce one leaf at a time. The evening was beautiful in the Cincinnati area with the leaves having turned on the trees. What a fantastic night for bluegrass and fellowship. For me, the night was not about the food; but about everything else --- enjoying the weather outside in a country like setting with the beautiful fall foliage and close friends.

Fiddler, your post was very beautiful. It really reminded me how much more we get out of our experiences now, that we may have missed when consumed with the food. Your description of the evening clearly showed this, as did your appreciation of the fellowship etc. Many people would remember the food as the highlight, which is so fleeting.
ahhh...thank you for sharing your evening with us. :)

Fiddler - What a beautiful evening you portrayed. The Time spent with friends being the focus and not the food. Awesome.
