Anyone ever do an orange juice fast? For two weeks? How was it? Thanks!

Hi Debbie,
I did an OJ fast for one week. It was a great experience. I found that the OJ satisfied me because of the sweetness, and if I found I needed a change I would add in some grapefruit juice. I loved the sense of well-being I got from doing the oj fast. near the end I was on a juicy "high" lol.

Raw Medic, how much juice did you drink a day?

I'm curious about the emotional/physical feelings. I'd love to try this fast but I'm taking care of two babies and don't have much time for a blow to my energy and having to sleep off a detox. I don't mind detox symptoms (since I still get them eating raw) but I don't want to be so uncomfortable that I can't take care of my family.

This might be a fast I have to wait and do later on in life. Or can someone tell me that this is a very appropriate fast for this stage that I'm in now?

Hi TY,

The idea of an orange juice fast is a good idea, but with many, many disadvantages. The orange alone is not good too consume in excess, let alone only the juice. The high ratio of sugars in the oranges/juice in excess isn't good for the body. Oranges are great fruits, but have a lot less nutrition in comparison to other fruits and veges.

You mentioned recommending a fast that would suit your age/lifestlye. Well in that case I would HIGHLY recommend an organic 40% Fruit/ 60% Combo. To find more info on the combinations, benefits of this type in "Easy Green Smoothies" in the rawfoodtalk search or go to rawfamily.com.

Hope this helps you =)

I did the two week OJ fast about a month ago. I did it to come off my SAD diet and kick-start my raw diet, so I did go through a bit of detox. But it was very managable, and I worked full time at my job as an elementary school teacher--kept up with the kids and everything. I made sure to either brush my teeth after drinking or drink with a straw and swish with water afterwards, so I had no problems with my teeth.

As far as emotional/ physical feelings, after the first week I was a bit mentally foggy, once in a while had some light diziness, and felt tired, but not to the point where I was in bed every day. Emotionally, I had food dreams, but I felt pretty balanced throughout the whole thing and REALLY balanced and focused at the end. If you want more detail I recorded all of it in the first 14 days of my journal.

Also, as far as your stage of life, I don't have kids yet (I'm 25) BUT my body was (and still is) highly toxic from a fast food diet and other abuse, so maybe your detox will not be too bad if you are already taking care of yourself? I hope this helps =)
