Young Coconut Hunting!

I, like somebody else here, inquired about ordering a case from the local whole foods market... they said, there are 9 per case, at $2.99 each... (NOT ORGANIC) they can't even get organic coconuts!

can you get them organic somewhere else???

is this a pretty fair price?

oh yeah, if I buy a case for only one person - can I use them berfore they expire? I mean about how long do they last?

I can't answer all your questions, but I can tell you that my market ordered them for me. They are not organic, and come in a case of 9 for $1.50 each (that's Canadian dollars). I think I'm paying a lot, because most people say they can find them in Chinatowns or Asian markets for 50-80 cents each, and they're probably talking US dollars. I'm not sure how long they keep as we eat them quickly, but hopefully someone else can answer that question for you. Definitely try looking in Asian markets for them, or just call around and save yourself a trip. I'm not sure where you can find organic ones though, as I myself had trouble getting them at all, though I'm in a rather small town.

That prices does seem outrageous to me. I suggest you keep looking. :D

I live in Victoria and a small, local market called Market on Yates is where I shop. But I bet Save on Foods or Safeway could order them too. My market is just ordering them by the case from a national produce supplier. Sorry...I'm afraid I'm not much help. :o
