Welcome welcome welcome!!! :excited:
Welcome to the 30 day challenge and welcome to our new monthly format.
This is our monthly challenge thread. We are choosing to do one (or perhaps split into two) continual threads so we can create a community of support within this challenge. You can join this thread at any time during the month. Don't be shy... we love new posters!!! So if you want to join us... please do!
I welcome people who are already 100% raw to join in the conversation - supporting our challengers in their quest! :cheer:
This thread is specifically for those of you who are eager to commit to 30 consecutive days of eating 100% raw foods and seeing miraculous results!
I will start a new challenge thread on the first of every month. If I forget... send me a quick email and remind me... I'll get the challenge thread online for you quickly.
The focus of the monthly challenge is on staying raw and accountability. Therefore, if you have eaten all raw and then slip up and have something cooked, don't beat yourself up over it or dwell on it - but this is not space to discuss it. You are more than welcome to document it in your journal/blog or ask for help in the discussion area, but it is not necessary (and not allowed) to discuss your slip-up here in the challenge threads, just get right back on track and keep going! This thread is about celebrating what you are eating that IS raw!
I welcome you all to share pics of your dishes, ask questions, share what you are consuming (as long as it's raw). We are here to listen to your emotional and physical challenges. So share share share!!! :hug
OH and the best part of this (not only the support but...) you can subscribe to this thread and get notified every time someone posts to it. This way you will be connected!
So let's get this party started!!!:throwhearts:

Today I was 90% raw and have been trying to be at least that for the last month. I'd like to make the move to full raw, so this will probably be good for me to join :). I look forward to "meeting" everyone else who joins too.

Another month to get my teeth into. Hello everyone. I'm hoping this month will be an easier one for me. We should be getting our new caravan soon and that will mean an indoor kitchen. Looking forward to no dust on all the plates etc. When the wood burner is installed we shall have the means to keep winter at bay too. Looking forward to fruits and salads mostly today.

Hi!!! My name is Renee and I'm happy to be here another month enjoying the benefits to being completely raw!!! I'm a HUGE snacker!!! So I wanted to start off by sharing one of my absolutely favorite snacks: dehydrated Pineapple!!!!
http://i517.photobucket.com/albums/u336/Pioneerspiritnee/Mobile%20Uploads/IMG_4904.jpg
Of course it is wonderful fresh, but sometimes I feel like having something sweet, dry, and crispy and this fits the bill for me!!! Actually, I do eat it both ways, but I love it dehydrated! Not the store bought stuff....make it yourself! Just cut it, lay it on your mesh sheet, then enjoy it the next day! Yummmmm!!!!!
I am coming over from the August thread. I am at day 20 being 100% raw.
I tried making raw bread with cauliflower. OMG don't do it. Dehydrated cauliflower smells like hot garbage (not joking). I was in denial and thought it would be okay after it cooled down. I made a sandwich with almond butter, raw honey and walnuts. It went right in the trash. Eww yuck - never again. It was too bad too because the texture was perfect. It was just like bread. oh well. I have a batch of the zucchini version in the dehydrator now. Hopefully it doesn't spoil this time.
Anyway, have a good day everyone and good luck. :)

Hi again guys,
stuck with high raw the rest of last month, though I didn't get much chance to post, I kept checkin in. Will try to maintain posting this month.
Thanks for the heads up on the bread rob. barf. I once tried making mashed "potatoes" with cauliflower, it came out of the processor liquidized. just wrong.
LOL!!!!!! Rob!!!! You CRACK me UP!!!!! Did you use a recipe or just make it up? You are a chef in the making, my friend!!!!! I will stick to Califlower rice in my Suchi, because what you describe doesn't sound appetizing! LOL!!!
Yeah it was my creation. You should try my pizza sauce. It's killer. Once I get my Excalibur, I'm gonna make some big ol' pizza crusts. I cannot wait.
I'm at Applebee's right now. I will either have a salad (hold the meat, hold the cheese, hold the dressing) or just sit with a glass of water.
For lunch I had zucchini noodles with my pizza sauce (my new addiction).
Breakfast was fruit.
Greetings also to RedCedar, MysticTree and new person. :)

Zucchini or courgette for us UK people noodles are as damned near pasta as pasta is in my opinion. I also use beetroot and squash which I put through my spiraliser. We had courgette and beetroot spaghetti last night with red onion, lettuce and pea shoots, tomatoes, pumkin seeds and hemp sprinkles. We had to imagine avocado coz I forgot to get any. Nectarines are good just now and we had some raw chocolate too. No nuts for me yesterday but I just remembered a pot of kale chips I bought. Very nice but not my favourite sort.

Just post in here. :)
I started day 21 with a bunch of fruit this morning (peach, nectarine, few small plums and a banana). I am kind of hungry now. Not sure what I'll eat.
Raw bread has me pissed off. The zucchini has this weird, bizzar funk to it. I found a raw bread that uses "psyllium". Maybe I will get some of that and figure out what's up there.
Anyway, off to have some lunch. Good luck everyone

Yea....I'm not too into the raw breads either. The one in LOLF on page 352 (Pizza bread) is pretty good though. You can use it for wraps and it's nice and thick. I don't care for Sprouted Wheatberries, so none of the "breads" that uses that are appealing to me.
You know...you CAN use your Dehydrator for wraps and Breads. The secret is to make them small 6" size that will fit in the space using the Nasco dehydrator. If you make bread slices and not try to make a loaf, it'll work.

Last night I had some miso soup with veggies in it. I have some homemade saurekraut adn kimchi in the fridge I'm trying to get used up and I put some of the kimchi in the soup--very good.
So far today I've had tea and grape juice. I was looking through old threads and found Renee's sticky from her 60 day challenge in 2009 and now feel the need to make some new recipes, so I may get to that today. I would really love to get some stuff in the freezer for those times I'm just too busy or lazy to make something. Anyway, I have lots of fruits to eat and juice so I'll be making more juice and a green smoothie for today. Knowing you guys are here has already been a big help in keeping me on track and 100% raw.

Hey everyone. I am still here and 100% raw for 21 days. Lately, I have been having thoughts of meat. I have been lazy with my chia seeds and sesame seeds. As such, I don't think, I'm getting enough iron and hence the meat thoughts.
Other than that being raw is pretty easy lately. I went to the fair and saW a demolition derby. I didn't give the crap food there even a thought. (Had fun too)
Anyway I don't have a lot of time. I wish you all the best. Good night.
ReneeH
09-04-2012, 06:08 AM
AMBER: Nice photos!!!! Great eye-candy!!!!! I do that too! You can also make up the whole pie and freeze it and cut it into pie pieces for a better look for guests.
ROB: 21 DAYS!!!! :cheer: WAY TO GO!!!!!! That's fabulous!!!!! For your meat craving, try this: LOLF Marinated Portobello!!! It's DELICIOUS and will give you a "meaty" texture. Also, juicing beets will give you a shot of iron right to your cells the quickest way. When you juice beets, remember its a potent juice, so only use it sparingly and NEVER alone because it can do some damage. Let me know if you need a recipe combination!
Been missing my green juice...gotta get back to it today!
Hey everyone, I brought a bunch of fruit with me to work. I ate all that. In my lunch bag, I have chia seeds and sesame seeds. My tummy is a little grumbly. I know those raw fats are going to settle it right down. I'll be having those shortly, I think. Dinner is always a bit of a mystery. Last night, for example, I made zucchini noodles and tossed them with a sweet, spicy asian sauce that I concocted.
ReneeH, thanks for the tip on the beat juice. I am "between juicers" at the moment (in other words the cheap one I got from Target broke and I am still trying convince my Jewish side to let go of the money required to buy a good one).
Speaking of investing in raw food equipment. I don't know where the frack my Excalibur is. I placed the order a while ago (or it feels like a while ago). It's just taking FOREVER. I just emailed the turkeys, asking for a tracking number.
Anyway, I hope everyone is doing well. I don't see as many new comers as last months. That's odd.

Today I have carrot pecan burgers, pg 385, in the D and will be making curry sauce, pg 373, to go with them tonight. I also plan to make the cabbage pear salad, pg 465; banana crackers, pg 347; and a 3 ingredient raw fudge recipe. The recipes with pages all came fronm Alissa's LOLF (Living on Live Foods).
Raw Fudge
1 C dates, soaked 5-10 mins
1 1/4 C nuts or Pumpkin seeds
1 C lucuma
Grind nuts or seeds into flour. Process dates in a food processoruntil you have a paste, then add other ingredients. Process until you have a dough. Line a ocntainer with plastic wrapping & press down the fudge dough. Even out the surface witha wet spoon. Freeze for 20 mins & then cut into squares.
For a more fudgey taste, use pecans. You can also use shredded coconut instead of nots or seeds along with 2 T melted coconut oil. If you don't want it so sweet you can use 1/2 C lucuma & 1/2 C purple corn powder. http://blogspot.us2.list-manage.com/track/click?u=3d9d61e38a821fc9e562c8914&id=0c14948637&e=22549855be

Not much to report: chia pudding, green smoothies, short walks on a gimpy foot with baby (who has got to be about 25 pounds by now) strapped to me, changing nappies, blah blah blah.
Thanks to the folks from this thread that gave me some recipe advice. Will try and make something tonight a bit different, and think I'll try that carrot cake recipe tomorrow (our anniversary) that MysticTree posted.
Goals for today: Be raw. walk some with munchkin/get some sun while it lasts. research rentals. buy ingredients for carrot cake recipe, and something savory for tonight. Make some calls. Don't kill the abusive housemate. Breathe. Breathe some more. Again. Ok.

Hey everybody! I'm at 8 or 9 days (can't quite remember!) 100% raw :) That is a new record for me, and I'm going strong. I also just ordered a spiral slicer, so I plan to make some of the "pasta and sauce" that Robh is so addicted to
Can't wait, as I'm getting pretty tired of just salads and fruit and sprouts. But the sprouts have been a godsend - the fill me up like nobody's business.

hey guys, I am 13 days into all raw and I plan on staying raw for the rest of September. I still don't know what the best raw diet to be eating is. I am doing as much research as I can but i'm quite busy unfortunately.
my tentative plan is to stay with the diet that i am on for the next 10 to 11 days, then go on a fast for between 3 to 7 days while doing lots of research. Hopefully after that I'll have a more concrete answer on what is the best diet.

This was dinner tonight: carrot pecan burger w/curry sauce, marinated asparagus & tomatoes, and cabbage pear salad. The salad was rather bland but I barely had it made before eating a bit. I'm really hoping it will be much better tomorrow after having sat overnight. The burger and curry sauce were yummy but the asparagus was my favorite--delicious! I did make the fudge today but have not tried any yet. I did not get to the banana crackers, instead I made a drink called loving thy liver slushie that I'll try tomorrow, too. I realized tonight that the headache I've had for several days is probably detox because I very seldom get headaches and this one has hung around for several days. Sounds like everyone is doing good. This forum has really made me feel accountable which has been a lifesaver for me to stay raw 100%, so thanks to everyone that's participating.

Congratulations Rob, she's precious!
I made eggplant parmesan and had it yesterday. I found it to be a bit heavy and rich but it tasted good. I think my eggplant slices were too thick cause they were hard to cut. I dehydrated it for the full 18 hours, but it needed it. The amount it made was HUGE. I have most of it in the freezer so I can eat it once a week or so, I don't think I want it any more than that. Although it was very easy to make I don't think it is something I'll ever make again but if I do I'll probably 1/4 the recipe. Of course, I'm only making food for myself, it would be different if I had a family. I also made the snicker bites which are super yummy! I made the banana crackers which I'll try out on a DIL and 2 grandkids today when we go on a steam train ride. The DIL loves flax crackers so hopefully she'll like these too.
I'm leaving next Weds. for a wedding, I'll be gone for a week, so any suggestions for easy things to make and/or take would be appreciated. I already have ideas, but can't have too many! My son has a bullet blender there that I bought them, but that's it. Oh, and glad to see that everyone is doing good and it looks like everyone's keeping busy. Hope everyone has a wonderful weekend!

LexieW, First, congrats on staying raw for 11 days. That's about the time I was finally released of the cravings. Next, thank you for the kind words on the raw spaghetti. Did you notice how the intensity of the raw garlic and raw oinion changes over night in the fridge? The night I made itm I was not happy with it. The next day, I was thrilled. The flavors mellow overnight I guess. so weird! I made a large batch and forze it for the winter. Fresh tomatos are hard to find around here. Though I'd share that idea.
ReneeH, my excalibur finally came :woohoo: Rember the alissa's crepe shells I tried to make like three times in my "donut" dehydrator? They worked the first time in the excalibur (i love it) and they were friggen awesome:
Banana Rasberry Crepes
Shells:
Take the Crepe Shell batter from Living on Live Food (page 397) and pour it into 6 inch circles. Dehydrate at 105 for 12 hours.
Filling:
Put a banana, a handful of pecans, 3-4 dates a pinch of salt and a small splash of lemon juice in the food processor. Process into a lumpy creammy batter.
Topping:
Toss fresh rasberries with lemon juice and agave
Assembly:
Spread the filling in a thin layer on the shells. Place rasberries in a line and roll the shell round them.
The tart rasberries and the sour lemon juice and the sweet agave balance each other out nicely, then you get hit with this creamy, fatty filling and finally you experience that sweet, chewy shell.
Very very good. :)
Anyway, today is day 28 for me. Two more to go and I will have made it.
Take care everyone and good.

This is my 4th day of juice fasting, so breakfast I had juice with rainbow chard, dandelion greens, celery, ginger, and grapes. Lunch ended up being carrot and cabbage juice-that was nasty! I was going to add lots of apples to help it out but the juicer decided to start smoking. Haha Its old anyways, I guess its time has come.
So, I'm really not sure what to do about this juice fast, might switch to just green smoothies? Any advice? I ate a salad and some grapes tonight and drinking lots of water.
:heart
CM, welcome to the thread. :)
turquoisecosm, not sure what to tell you on the juice fast, it's all kind of personal preference.
MysticTree is going to laugh at me, but I made bread out of parsnips a carrot, an apple and soaked chia seeds. It's not "OMG bread!", but it keeps my hands clean when I eat a raw sandwich and the flavors are non-intrusive. It is a lot like the zucchini bread I used to make (that no longer works for mysterious reasons that I cannot explain). It doesn't shrink so badly and drying times are less (parsnips are kinda dry it seems). Anyway, I am pretty stoked to a have a bread option again. I've been itching for raw pizza so I'm going to make another batch (with salt, oil and dates) and then dehydrate a large circle. It should make a fine pizza crust. I am gettin' jazzed just thinking about it.
Let's see last night we had a birthday party. The cooked foodies ate nearly burnt proteins atop wheat products with oily things that supposedly used to be a potato dipped in fatty sauces. I made raw ranch dip, sliced up veggies and joined them in the dipping of crunchy things in fat. Later, they had the traditional birthday desserts while I had some raw cheesecake. Before all that I had a bunch of fruit a bunch of nuts and those crepes I posted about.
Today, breakfast was a prickly pear and an almond butter and banana sandwich (my first taste of the raw bread).
I am thinkin' I may do something similar for lunch. I see an orange, an apple, a nectarine and I still have a banana and more bread (and more almond butter) all in my lunch bag.
For Dinner, I am pondering a salad with raw ranch, tomato, carrots, cucumbers and banana peppers. To accompany that, I think I'll pull out the raw spaghetti. For a while I ate it so many days in a row that I tired of it, but it's been a few days and it's sounding good again.
I need to figure out some sort of fat source for with my spaghetti. I'd love to make a raw "meatballs" or raw "sausage". I have some portobello mushrooms marinating in a very light mixture of water, bragg's liquid aminos, paprika and garlic powder. That should provide a very meaty texture, salt and some of the common flavors common to tubular meat products. To get the fat, I think I'll use pecans. The other day, I put some "cajun" season on something. Something in it reminded me to meat so I'll probably play with that too. I'll let yall know how it turns out (assuming I have time to make it tonight).
Tomorrow is the big day 30 for me. This is the longest I have been able to stay 100% raw. It gets easier the longer you stay with it. :)
Good luck everyone

I would love to join the monthly challenge! I'm on my second day 100% raw and so far I'm loving it. Yesterday I felt good, but I feel like I crashed in the afternoon. My head hurt and I was tired. I fell asleep at 7 at night! I feel better today, but I'm wondering if it was detox. Is one day too soon to be detoxing?
Anyway, I had lots of good stuff. Buckwheat crispies with figs and cranberries, salad and fruit for lunch and butternut squash with marinated mushrooms and a spinach cashew sauce for dinner. Lots of snacking of fruit in between. I love the feeling of not being totally stuffed!
So far today I've had a cocoa smoothie and a cup of berries. Looking forward every day to new food and feelings :woot:

Raw bread man strikes again :) I'm wondering if putting Irish moss in would give it a slightly spongy texture.
Yeah, it turns out irish moss is a very popular ingredient in raw breads. That and psyllium husk. I think flax and chia seeds could do something similar. I notice it in my latest bread. The chia seeds that I used are gluey and prevent the bread from full dehydrating so you end up with a spongy texture (very much like real bread). I want to get my hands on some irish moss. I saw it on amazon for like $24 a pound (yikes). It seems like psyllium husk can be obtained from just about any health food store. Anyway, yes, raw bread man it at it again. :)
mellow_yellow, welcome back. That username is hard to forget.
I made a raw pâté last night. I was trying to make meatballs but ended up with more of a spreadable meaty mixture. I enjoy it. It's nice to bring a new flavor and texture into my bag of tricks. If I want to make meatballs out of it, I need to add some Italian seasoning maybe some onion, garlic, parsley and oregano.
For breakfast, I brought an apple, an orange, a plum and a couple of bananas that I intend to eat with almond butter.
For lunch, I brought a raw sandwich from the raw parsnip bread, lettuce, tomato, onion and the raw pâté. I may also hole one of the banana and enjoy another banana-almond butter snack after the sandwich.
Dinner is a mystery right now. Last night, I did the salad and the spaghetti. I have to figure out something different.
Today is my 30th consecutive day at 100% raw. I am feeling great (have been for a few weeks). Prior to these 30 days, I was on and off 100%. I was probably hovering around 90-95% raw for 6 months. After 6th months and a loss of 55lbs, my weight loss plateaued. I don't think I dropped any weight in that 6th month. This month, however, being 100% raw I suddenly dropped another 10 lbs (65 total now). Also, for some inexplicable reason, 100% raw seems to have condensed my body to the point that people are noticing the weight loss. They don't see the first 55lbs, but take notice to the last 10? That's wacky. I have never felt better emotionally or physically. One of the benefits that I didn't really see coming is the freedom from craving and all thoughts of eating cooked food. I have come to really value this benefit because it removes the difficulty. I don't have to try to be raw anymore because now it's effortless.
I know there are different flavors of raw vegan. (Low fat, Sproutetarian, All juices etc etc.) For right now, I am enjoying gourmet raw. I enjoy making tasty stuff and knowing I can eat as much as I want. I will, for sure, stay 100% raw. I am not going back to that dreadful battle that I waged for 6 months.
Anyway, have a RAWsome day everyone. :)

Thanks for the welcome back, robh! For over a year, I've tried to incorporate more and more raw into my diet and now I finally feel like I can do it.
Today is my third day 100% but I haven't eaten anything yet today, so I'll talk about yesterday. For breakfast I had a smoothie and berries. For lunch I had leftover spinach dip and bell pepper sticks. Then I was craving something sweet so I made some fudge out of cocoa, coconut butter and agave. Yum! I think I ate way too much of it though. . . For dinner I made a raw Pad Thai which is my favorite thing I've had so far and I can't wait to have it for lunch today.
All in all I didn't feel too great yesterday. I was still very tired and I'm not getting that raw energy that I remember in the past. I think I might have just eaten too much :eat
Sipping on herbal tea now, contemplating my meals to come.

Anyways, HI TO YOU ALL!!

My Hubby is having surgery in the morning. It's been quite a crazy week for me. Relying mostly on fruit and Salads and food from my raw kitchen. All I had today is a Salad for lunch and nibbled on a Banana Nut Fudge Cookie (LOLF). Hopefully I'll be back to posting photos next week while my Hubby is recovering, but I may be back and fourth to hospital, so I may not have a chance to post....

Everybody's doing so great! Congratulations to everyone hitting their goals, and keep going!
I'm on day 13 or 14 now I think - I haven't weighed myself but I know I've lost quite a bit of fat from the good ole' stubborn areas (hips, butt, thighs).
Robh - I did notice the flavors in the marinara sauce mellowing overnight. My next experiment is going to be raw coconut curry - I'm feeling the need for something really filling, as I've started to pick up my workouts again.
Also, gotta remember not to have sprouts before bed - they interfer with my sleep! Make me wanna stay up :P Much better to start the day out with them, and get that extra boost of energy first thing.

Hey yau'll,
Thanks Tracy!!!! Hubby's surgery has been resched for next Wed, so he's restricted to bed rest till then. It's been a REALLY, REALLY long and stressful day! Homeschooling and taking care of a sick Hubby is a full time job in and of itself! But, my day continues cuz I gotta go work at my raw kitchen tonight. I don't mind that, though! It's actually a lot of fun for me! I truly LOVE what I do.
I only had water this morning till noon. Then I snuck off to Chili's for a Salad:
http://i517.photobucket.com/albums/u336/Pioneerspiritnee/Mobile%20Uploads/IMG_6314.jpg
I asked to leave off the Croutons and Cheese and asked to add Mushrooms and Avocado....paid extra for Avocado. The total price was $4.90. Not bad, huh!!! The Vineagrette was really good, too. The Mushrooms were far from fresh, so I had to sift through them to find some good ones! But, normally when I get this they are ok! It actually filled me up pretty good and it was nice to get away for a hot second!
Hey, check this out...see anyone you know? :-D

another week raw and loving how i'm feeling, except for a problem this morning. my gums started bleeding when i brushed them.
i stopped brushing teeth with toothpaste. was just using a brush in morning then rinsing with mouthwash. going to buy some naturalish toothpaste (don't think my health food store has ideal products) and start oil pulling. will also start getting more sun exposure, this past week i slacked big time there.
also re diet: i'm something similar to a LFRV. i do a green smoothie in morning, been doing 3 fruit meals a day, 1 big salad for my 4th meal. i'm looking into starting to sprout/grow wheatgrass. any other advice or thoughts appreciated.
ReneeH, your name in lights. That's cool. Congrats.
Traceyraw, nice to see you around again. welcome back.
LexieW, 14 days - that's awesome. Good luck with the curry experiments. Sounds yummy.
Bananna, thanks for the raw bread tip. It sounds like psyllium husks are easily obtained from the health food stores. I'm gonna give that a try for sure. On the tomato sauce, I will make a formal recipe, but it goes something like this:
Raw Pizza Sauce (works great on spaghetti too)
In a bowl, I mix sliced tomatoes with chopped onion, diced garlic, olive oil, salt, pepper and, fresh oregano. Be generous with the onions and garlic despite the fact that they are overpowering in their raw form. That will change.
Spread the mixture thinly onto teflex sheets. I say thinly because you want to maximize the air flow between the tomatoes, onions and garlic. Dehydrate on a high temp for two hours (the standard proceedure) and then drop it down to 105 for another 4-5 hours. (This should smell awesome.)
At this point, I personally put it in the fridge overnight. It's not required, but the taste of the onions and the garlic change overnight. They mellow out. Then, when I am making the sauce, I can taste it and have a more accurate gauge on how the end product will taste.
Next, load everything into the food processor. Process it. Taste it. Add one of these: sun dried tomatoes, olive oil, garlic powder, onion powder, dried oregano, dates, salt. Process it. Taste it. Repeat. Onion powder and garlic powder give more depth to the existing onion and garlic flavors. The same is true for the dried oregano. Olive oil lubes everything up and gives substance. Sun-dried tomatoes give it body and deepens the tomato flavors. Dates add sweetness and body. Salt is very important. In a pizza sauce, your taste buds are looking for salty, sweet and sour. Without the salty, it all falls apart (sweet too imo).
I need to nail down the amounts I used a write up a traditional recipe.
Anyway, I'm still 100% raw and loving life. Everyone is doing great. Keep up the great work.

Thanks Robh. Your sauce sounds yummy.
Good morning my veggie friends. I SLEPT SO INCREDIBLE LAST NIGHT. Like a littel baby sound asleep. I feel much better today. I started my day with my spinach O.J. Lots more spinach this time more of a thin smoothie instead of juice. I was so hungry after work. I need to amp it up today. My alfalfa sprouts are coming around nicely. I am starting more wheat to make bread. My mung bean sprouts I let go to far they turned bitter and yucky. Ill try again.
Dreaming of an avacado, tomatoe , sprout on my fresh escene bread.
Did anybody notice the price of almond butter on amazon. I used to get it auto shipped for about $12.00 a jar. Now Marantha is like $17.00 per oz. can't figure out why 1 jar would be over $100. Just curious if anybody knows.
Lunch is carrot/celery sticks with almond butter and agave. Have tons of grapes, banannas and apples for stacks. Dinner is salad. I am making a huge salad for the pot luck tomorrow. Like a chopped salad without lettuce all of the other goodies.
Have a rawesome day.. Good to be back.

Hi everyone, it's so great to see everyone doing so good. Congratulations Rob on making it 30+ days! I've had a busy few days but am still raw. Went to breakfast on my birthday and had a bowl of fruit, then dinner at a friends house where I took a large salad and raw dressing for myself--it was so yummy! I've been cleaning, it feels like, for days. Cleaned and closed up the houseboat. Cleaned the new 5th wheel I moved into. Now me and my mom are going to Sc for my youngest sons wedding. I'll be coming back for a week and then driving back to SC to help them out for probably about 9 months. Since all my kids live on the east coast, we were planning to buy a house there so we'll probably just do it a little sooner than originally planned. Luckily for them, I can continue my college online whereas my DIL can't, and they need a babysitter. I'll try to pop in and out this week to keep myself accountable and see how everyone else is doing. Keep up the good work! And Renee, I'll be keeping your family in my thoughts and prayers.

Hi everyone, been a while, Im high raw at moment but probably going 100% very soon, just need to get in a few bits, I do have an incentive now as we are planning a secret marriage (lol, dont tell anyone !!) x
Robh - Wow your picture, what a change you look so vibrant and healthy and Samantha is adorable (although not in pink?!!! whats going on !LOL ). Rob did you get your dehdrator is it good??? x
Renee hope hubby is ok, I will be joining your Nov raw pizza class ! x
Hi to everyone else, looks like you are all doing fab ! x
ReneeH, I hope your husband is doing well and recovers soon. With home-school and taking care of him and your business, you must be swamped. Good luck keeping all those balls in the air. :)
imaquillen, sounds like you are going to be busy and on road a lot. Being raw in that situation sounds difficult.
Crystal2870, the hospital did not have pink outfits it seems. The wife is making up for it, though. I don't think she's gone a single day without wearing a pink, girly outfit. Yesterday, she had a little headband on with a bow on top; it was so cute. The Excalibur dehydrator is AWESOME! Though, I have only had time to make banana crepes and raw bread in it. I have big plans for pizza, though! I could have never made a large, circular pizza in my "donut" dehydrator. This one is soooo nice. Now I need to convince myself to let go of enough money to get a vitamix. :) Not sure how many months that's going to take - heh.
MysticTree, how is life off the grid, lately? Our plants, around here, are feeling the effects of fall. The temp has dropped and the leaves are falling. This will be your first winter there, correct?
Not much new here. I'm still eating fruit, having salads and using raw fats to keep my full. Once I can find sometime, I need to work on that pizza idea. I don't have the crust worked out yet. The parsnip bread is on the right track. I saw an almond-based bread that used psyllium husk to achieve a spongy texture. Chia seeds do about the same thing. I think, however, a hybrid approach that uses psyllium husks, ground chia seed, parspins and almond pulp may produce a well-rounded bread base that doesn't have too much of one thing. For pizza dough, I'll add olive oil, salt and sweetness (dates probably because the texture would aid the dough). Before I can get started, I need a nut bag to make the almond pulp and I need to round up psyllium husk (which, it seems, I can obtain from the health food store). I'll also need to make up some "cheese" for the top, but I have all that stuff.
Anyway, I'm rambling. Have a good day everyone. Be strong through the cravings. It's so much easier on the other side. Hang in there. :)

trying again to get back into the raw groove. It was never hard before BF went raw for 6 or 7 weeks but now he isn't raw any more I am struggling. Starting off with raspberries and various fruit and keeping my fingers crossed!
ReneeH, I have been eeking out time for un-cooking. I love it. Those crepe shells are so awesome and so easy.
RedCedar, I wish you the best getting back to raw.
CM, I saw an old post of yours on the forum the other day. I hadn't yet learned of raw back then. It's great that you are back. Also, almond pulp for taco meat - interesting idea. thanks
MysticTree, I am sorry to hear about your struggle with raw. Those times are so frustrating.
At the risk of sounding like a stuck-up know-it-all, I wanted to share what worked for me to stay raw longer enough to break the cycle.
For the longest time, I would slip up and say "aww, well I can always get back on 100% raw tomorrow." I would use it as an excuse for the rest of the day "well, I already had cooked food today, what's a little more?" Worse than that, however, when tomorrow came, I put the incident behind me and didn't think about the root cause of the indicent. Once I started asking the questions "How did I slip off the raw wagon?" and "How can I prevent that in the future?" I started to stay 100% raw and stick to it.
It is kind of funny that this came up. Last night, one of our friends asked use out the chinese buffet. The last time I ate cooked food was 35 days ago. Can you guess the cause? The same friend asked the same question. This time, however, I was prepared. A month ago, I told myself that if it ever happened again, I would stay home. I told my wife that she and the kids would have to go without me. I ate raw food last night. To my surprise, the wife and kids stayed home and ate "better" cooked meal.
Again, sorry if I sound like a preachy know-it-all. I am only exicted because it worked for me.
I did a lot of raw stuff this weekend.
I made a raw, spongy bread (receipe I found online). It gave me a lot of ideas. I am zeroing in on a solution. :)
This is pretty cool. I found a group of raw fooders in my area. Saturday, I went for a "fruit-luck" and hike in a really cool park. It was nice to meet raw fooders in the flesh. Talking to people that share your challenges (much like this forum) is very nice.
This morning, I have a couple of bananas, a couple of apples (so good this time of year) and some plumbs. I *should* have brought some ground sesame seeds, but I have been lazy. As a result, meat has been appealing to me (need the iron, zinc, calcium and the other minerals from the sesame seeds). Insetad of sesame seeds, my fat source to keep me full this afternoon is almond butter. I'll put that on a banana (yum).
I'm not sure what I'll do tonight. I had wilted kale salads the past couple of days. I'm tired on them now. I'll probably do a romaine salad with raw ranch. I still have some of the raw, spongy garlic bread from the weekend. I'll probably have that and some of the sun-dried tomato rosemary cashew cheese I made for with it. That'll be enough fat to keep me full.
Take care all. Let's all be strong together!

Day going great. Preparation is key and I am so there!
The almond taco meat is even better today. Extra spicy and a great texture. So today I will wrap what's left in a collard leaf.

Doing better the last couple days. May try that taco recipe again I found--was satisfying. Think I'll make cashew sour cream to go with it this time.

I have been continuing raw and doing good. Mmost of my family knows how I eat and don't have an issue with me eating my food. My kids call me a hippie! We're leaving Wednesday morning to go home where i'll start making lots of raw yumminess to take with me when I drive back the next week. It's so good to see that everyone is doing so good even through all the trials of life.
MysticTree, feeling blah and tired may be a result of your return to 100% raw. I don't know if you recall, but this last time I felt just terrible the first week or so. You need some positive energy to get you through the worst of it. What's your favorite raw dish? You can get jazzed about it while collecting an preparing what you need. Maybe that will help distract you.
RedCedar, finding a variety of stuff you enjoy is very helpful to staying on this thing.
Conscious Midwife, alfalfa sprout sushi - that sounds great. I need a good sushi knife so I don't tear the nori. (I tried making sushi recently and ended up with sushi salad instead of sushi rolls -- grrrr)
Amber, congrats staying raw.
Spicy BBQ Kale Chips
1 head organic kale, torn
2 chipotle chilis, soaked
1/2 cup soaking water from chipotle chilis
2 tablespoons olive oil
3 tablespoons nama shoyu/tamari (or braggs liquid aminos)
2 tabelspoons apple cider vinegar
1 teaspoon paprika
2 teaspoons cumin
1 teaspoon garlic powder
Pinch cayenne
1 cup sun-dried tomatoes
1 cup soft dates
- Blend all ingredients in a high-speed blender until smooth.
- Thoroughly combine the kale a sauce in a bowl until all the kale is coated.
- Evenly scatter the kale on a non-stick dehydrator sheet in a way that will allow the air to circulate around it.
- Dehydrate at 105 degrees F for around 10 hours. Remove from the non-stick sheet, transferring to a mesh sheet and continue dehydrating until the kale is completely dried out.
I made these last night, they are so addicting! I ate like half of them when I was flipping them over this morning. Russell James (http://therawchef.com/therawchefblog/raw-food-recipes-spicy-bbq-kale-chips) is to thank for this one.
Dinner last night was romaine and raw ranch, raw garlic bread and sun-dried tomato cashew cheese. That kept me full. I couldn't help but snack on some dates while making the above recipe, though. Afterward, I made a small kale salad with the extra sauce.
Today, in my lunch bag, I have Bananas, apples, plums and almond butter.
Tonight, I know kale chips will be too hard to resist. They do not have enough fat content to keep me full, though. I have an avocado there, but guacamole is out because I am out of tomatoes. Maybe I'll make a "romaine boats" with sun-dried tomato cashew cheese, sliced avocado, drizzled olive oil and salt and pepper. Maybe I'll toss some garlic powder, onion powder and dried Italian seasoning on top give it a sort of Italian flare. So it'll be Italian romaine boats with kale chips on the side for dinner.
Anyway, I hope everyone has a good day. Keep positive and stay strong!

Also got in a good to mile walk on my lunch break so today i will try a little more walk/joggin and try to increase the distance and time a bit while still leaving time for a shower and snack.
HAVE A FANTASTIC DAY ALL!
Conscious Midwife, congrats on ridding yourself of the weight.
MysticTree,
Living in your current caravan must be a challenge. It was in your video briefly, but it's pretty small.
Have you guys considered using solar power to charge a set of batteries? That way, when the sun goes down, you could run a light. With winter coming and the days getting shorter, having more light after the sun goes down will become more important. You could even charge your mobiles with it. Other options are plugging a converter into your car's cigarette lighter or even running a generator, but those options are not very environmentally friendly.
Anyway, back to raw food. I ate about what I said I was going to yesterday. I did snack on dates while making some raw chocolate cookies that I promised my wife.
My grocery store sells raw sprouted flour (living intention's super-flour). It has a recipe for chocolate goji cookies (http://livesuperfoods.com/news/raw-chocolate-goji-berry-cookies) on the back. My wife is addicted to them. Last night, I blended cashews, some water, some honey and vanilla extract into a white filling. I pressed the chocolate cookies into rounds and put the filling between then to make raw oreos:
http://www.rghware.com/images/rawFood/rawOreos.jpg
Here they are in the freezer to firm up the filling.
I'm working from home today so I'll probably have some fruit when I get hungry (banana, apples and plums currently). I cannot imagine that I won't grab some date and some nuts at some point when I'm in the kitchen. Also, I have yet to try an oreo so I'm sure I will eat one of those today.
I'm not sure what dinner is going to be. I am low on salad fixings. I could do the spaghetti again. The kale chips are gone (I miss them already). I am also out of avocados (OH NO!). I really need to get to the store. Maybe I'll have a better dinner plan after that. I'll let you all know.
Good luck today, everyone.

which is smaller - the caravan or the video? ;)
Those cookies look amazing and I know what you mean about the kale chips being gone. I think about kale chips every time I walk past my kale bed and curse the lack of electricity! Solar soon I hope, soon.
I suppose sun-dried kale isn't the same.
Last night, I ended up dipping carrots in raw ranch and cashew cheese. I did go to the store and get some fruits and veggies. Most of the evening was burned up going from store to store. It was late when we returned, but I wouldn't stand for the kids eating fast food. The rest of the evening was spent cooking for the family. After all that was done, carrots and dip sounded like an easy thing to do. I don't taste my cooking so so I was 100% raw all day.
The seasons are changing and already the fresh fruits and veggies are fading away. My diet is already really high in fat. Without the fruit, that problem is going to get much much worse. To solve this problem, I have a couple of ideas. First, I need to eat less. Second, when I do I eat, I need to find calories that are not fruit and not fats. I think through the winter, I'm going to do a lot of fasting. Also, I can get a lot of what I need from grass juices (that will cut down on the volume of what I have to eat). I can get calories from sprouted legumes and the occasion sprouted grains. When I do eat fat, it's going to have to be ground sesame seeds because of the high mineral content. I'll also eat sprouted sesame seeds. I really need to sit down with chronometer and see what combinations of sprouts and grass juices will provide a well-balanced diet (obviously for the times that I'm not fasting). Anyway, the idea for the fall is to start transitioning to this new way of eating so that when the fresh food runs out, I won't miss it.
Good luck everyone!

sun dried would be fine . . . if we had much sun. As it is the solar panels will probably only be good for one low wattage light bulb for maybe 4 hours a day over winter.
your new plan ... sounds like a plan!

Made the raw tacos again last night...with extra garlic. yowza! was lovely. Think I won't do that recipe too often as I'm trying to limit the amount of fat I'm eating.
Rob I've been wondering the same thing-what does a cold weather raw food diet look like? is it realistic, or will I be eating a lot of cooked food or fats to keep warm?
Ordered a spirooli yesterday! I'm so excited.

If anyone has any advice on how you stay focused through the times when you are feeling tired or sick, it would be greatly appreciated! Also, I have felt so cold the past few days, and eating fruit and veggies just hasn't been that comforting. Does anyone have any good, easy raw recipes that might help with this a little bit?

You might want to try raw soup slightly warmed. Here's a fav of mine as it doesn't need nuts to make it thick and creamy:
1 stalk of celery
1 cup of carrots
1 small zucchini, chopped
.5 red bell pepper, chopped
.25 C olive oil
.5 C water
1 shallot (or, 1-2 T of chopped onion)1 clove of garlic
1 tsp sea salt
1) Blend all ingredients in blender until warm. (Sometimes I warm it in a pan.)
2) Drizzle with olive oil and garnish with chopped red bell peppers and lemon-pepper seasoning.

Rob, I found that I really ate lots of nuts and avocados for about the first two months going 100% raw then my body seemed to adjust on its own and I naturally slowed down on the amounts I was eating of those. It was quite expensive for those months and I was glad when I stopped "needing" all the heaviness and fats that I was used to from cooked foods. Hopefully, the same will happen for you. On another note, I've tried all the raw hot chocolate recipes I can find and none are quite right so maybe I'll experiment myself this winter. While I've never been a huge hot chocolate drinker, I've found I like the warm drinks and soups more now that I'm raw. Another problem for me is getting the hot chocolate "hot" enough, lukewarm just doesn't cut it for me.
Glad to see everyone is doing good and staying raw to the best of their ability.

Hi everyone...
Just wanted to pop in and let you know that I'm still here. I haven't been able to post... My hubby's surgery went well, but his recovery has not been easy for either of us. He's still not eating. Everything he eats he vomits....except Banana, Avocado, and Jello. He's already a very thin person, and he's lost so much weight because he can't keep anything down. He even throws up veggie broth.
I've been trying to stay as raw as possible myself...although I've been under tremendous stress with everything that I'm doing. When he was in the hospital, I was able to take Raw Pizzas with me which kept me from starving. I also took Date Nut Tortes and Garlic Ginger Crackers to snack on. If it weren't for my raw business, I don't know what I'd do! I drank some Kombucha today and, I don't know why, but it actually relaxed me a bit...even though it's supposed to be stimulating.
Anyway, I gotta keep this short cuz I'm at work. So great to see so many still posting here! I'll have to catch up with you guys next week.

Sunny day here in Seattle, hubby working. Think I'll take the little guy for a walk and get out of the house for a few hours. Thinking of picking up some kelp noodles. Would love to make something kinda pasta-like (one youtube vid I watched suggested soaking them in lemon juice to soften the crunch outta them).
Made cauliflower popcorn last night. We laughed that between the two of us, we ate a cauliflower for dinner, heh. Then a chocolate milkshake for dessert (2 large bananas, 2 dates, mylk, cocoa).

How is everybody? Ready for Autumn (all you northern hemisphere folks)?
We decided to leave the kelp noodles crunchy and made a yummy sauce. Nice to add that texture to our meals on occasion. Will leave the pasta type noodle recipes for zucchini and the impending arrival of my spiralizer thingie (eee!).
Long night with kiddo so my morning routine is a bit off. Will get a chance to eat some pudding in a bit, then not sure. feel exhausted today.
RedCedar, I was thinking about root vegitables? I donno.
FlowGlow, I hope you are doing well. It sounds like you are having a rough go of it. It's very hard when you first start and you feel just horrible. Ride it out your reward is on the other side. :)
imaquillen, I hope my body adjusts away from the raw fats. If I do not eat them, I do not feel full (currently).
RenneH, it sounds like you have been under a lot of stress. I wish I could reach through the monitor and I give you a hug. I recently read about how healing and NOT eating are connected. I do not know if it will make you feel any better, but this is what I read. http://www.soilandhealth.org/02/0201hyglibcat/020127shelton.III/020127.ch8.htm
I am still here and I am still 100% raw. We had a busy weekend and I did not have much time to post. Even now, I’m running out the door, headed home.
Take care all.

That's what I was going to say. It works. Drinking a glass of chia green juice daily will make you immune to the cold and have an amazing effect on your mood...although I'm not sure if it would be somewhat less effective for non-sproutarians (sproutarians absorb nutrients much better - one reason we can almost live on green juice). It would certainly be an interesting experiment. Go for it FlowGlow.
Chia green juice is so impressive I've even decided to replace one of my daily glasses of grass juice with a glass of chia juice.

Spirooli arrived yesterday! one of the few times when the hype over a product is valid. That thing was easy, fast and amazballs to use. :wow:
Made zucchini spaghetti with a tomato sauce (roma and cherry tomatoes, a little olive oil, way too much garlic, italian seasoning, and a little honey in the food processor). I was not prepared to like it as much as I did.
yay for variety!

I agree, only using one of these gadgets can make you fall in love with it. I use it on courgettes, squash, beetroot, kohl rabi. It's my favourite gadget.
RedCedar, so glad you found noodles. If you have the stuff, I made some yummy Asian noodles the other day. Raw soy (brags liquid aminos, namu shoy, whatever), garlic powder, sesame oil, agave/honey and optionally some red cayenne pepper. That and obviously some zucchini noodles. Noodles are such a help for variety.
MisticTree, how goes it?
I made my pizza over the weekend. It was better that the other raw pizza recipes I have made but it was still a pour substitute.
I made more BBQ kale chips last night. I finished them this evening. God, they are like a drug. This time I made a LOT of the BBQ sauce and froze some. I think its better than the store brand that I used to enjoy. Props to that Russell James fellow on the sauce. I mixed some with shredded yams.
Speaking of are yams OK to eat? Potatoes are bad, I hear. I had the BBQ yams last night and guacamole yams tonight. Figured I should ask given the crescent yam kick.
Anyway, stay rawsome.

Hey yau'll!
Just poppin' in for a second. My hubby was admitted to the hospital again after he came home after he had surgery, so I've been camped out at the hospital and back and forth home and to my professional kitchen then back to the hospital and then back home and then.... (you get it, right!!!)
Now he's being treated for dehydration cuz he wouldn't stop vomiting! He's lost 20 pounds in 2 weeks!!!! He's doing better today, though. I have a steady flow of bananas, grapes, Peaches, Nectarines, Sunflower Seeds, and my raw meals. My friends have been wonderful...they have been bringing me lots of fruit  I just love them!!!
Anyway, I'll be able to catch up with yau'll once I slow down and breathe! LOL!
I hope things get better Rene. Keep up posted.

I'm still here at the hospital with my Darling Hubby. He's progressing slowly and I'm totally exhausted! I had to go to my professional kitchen this morning at 2am and I just got back. He says when he gets home he wants me to make him a Calzone!!!!! Yipeeee!!!!!! Isn't that wonderful! He said he'd like to eat more of my food! I'm SO thrilled!
Well, I'm gonna get some sleep now. We're gonna be homeschooling in Hubby's hospital room today then I'm gonna walk the kids over to TX Children's Hospital to visit with the sick kids there.
Have a RAWsome day!

Re-rawing my reraw. I started today. I found out when I get stressed I just don't focus on me or what I need to eat. I am stocked up and ready. I had a green smoothie this morning. Sunflower seeds, flax spinach and O.J. Its pretty good. I am trying to make Kale chips but they didn't get all of the way crispy so I left them in today while I am at work.
My focus this week is staying hydrated.
My cravings are for watermelon so maybe do a whole day of just watermelon. Sounds yummy.
