View Full Version : Near constant desire to eat?

What do you guys think could be the reason I keep wanting to eat on the raw diet? I do lots of green smoothies, fresh fruit and veggies, raw protein powder, nuts/seeds, etc. I find myself feeling hungry, dizzy and a bit out of it so I have one non raw meal per day like tofu or an organic egg from our chickens. (happy well treated family pet hens kept in good conditions) are my cravings and hunger due to the transition to raw or habit perhaps? Thoughts?

Eat more raw and see if that helps! Fill yourself up with raw foods! If it's detox then you are just going to have to wait it out...it will get better! If it's that your blood sugar is too low, then you need to eat more.
Eating raw food feels different in the body at the beginning...a lot different than cooked food.
If you are eating enough, then it may be detox and that little bit of cooked food slows it down or halts it that is why you feel a bit better after you have it.

I suppose a lot depends on what you call lots; it's a bit vague.
I eat lots of fruit ... except I suppose anyone doing 30bad would think it was very little!
Yesterday I had 2 punnets of raspberries, 6 nectarines, about 15 tomatoes, 2 bananas, an avocado
I also had a huge salad of lettuce, pea shoots, cucumber, hemp flakes, spring onion, two large tomatoes and oil and vinegar dressing (in most households it would have been a salad for at least four people.
I keep hens too. 1 egg is not a meal and we aren't really supposed to talk about non-vegan stuff. If that is how you define a meal then you are definitely eating too little and should crank up the volume of raw.

Yes, depending on the food you eat, it can take a while to adjust to raw. The key is to eat lots of highly nutritious food when you first start out. lf l were you, l would blend lots of sprouted foods, sprouted sesame seeds and add gray chia seeds in the blend. Blending sprouted greens, sprouted sesame and adding chia will make a really filling meal. Also you can try sprouted greens with nuts in the blender. Also try eating fruit one hour before those blended meals. ln time you won't feel like as much food.
late edit: also do 30 - 45 second blends if you have a really good blender. + have kelp and other sea vegetables.

It could be parasites, they don't like raw food.
You could be emotionally hungry. There is a difference with true hunger and craving for comfort food. If so, have a plan when those hunger rises (deep breath, go for a walk, meditation, have fun, etc....)
Sometime, when we are hungry, we are actually thirsty, try water first.
Stick to raw and be patient, all will be well.

i wanted to throw a dining room chair through dining room window for over a year because i was so grumpy / starving when started raw
i hated all raw foodist too and said they were idiots :holysheep:
i was grumpy and starving
but norman walker book raw fruint n vegi juices kept me believing so kept driving
green tea 24/7 for two years helped reduce appetite , so to me does lemon in ice water or black tea
and over years i learned that when i cheated on diet make it lesser each time , and try to keep it to just 1 or 2 days like weekends
then lesser and lesser each cheat
fasting greatly helps too . and now i fast every sunday , ' monday fasting club ' , for at minimum 48 hours
you find when getting into this groove you can easily go 48 without eating . then you grasp that during eating days you dont need half as much as youve been eating , this really helps to grasp in mind to eat less for health n longevity . you start thinking ' i dont need thesehuge amounts of food ive gotten used to and that amount is bad for me ' . then you become boss over your cravings / appetite not vica versa

Thank you very much for all the advice and ideas. I added more raw but butters and more volume of salads to my diet which seems to have helped. I think I need to expect to eat more often on the raw foods diet and to learn that I dont need that cooked foods full feeling. Thanks again!

ilovemysoldier, I was crazy hungry all the time when I first went raw. I ate everything in sight. I told myself, "If it's raw, I can have it." I ate raw brownies until they were going out of style. LOL Ahhhh...good times. But then, over time you start refining your little taste buds. Fresh seems best most of the time. The raw gourmet tapered off, slowly my appetite started to change. I still went through crazy days...but not as often.
Oh...and everything got better when I got rid of the SAD foods altogether. The half on, half off messed with my body. I would fall asleep after eating a SAD meal and felt great when eating raw. 100% is best if you can do it.
Good luck! :) (((HUGS)))

concerning salads : tons of avacado / sesame seed / sun flower seed / walnut heartify them
you can also make hearty raw dressings out of nuts like cashew / almond , ranch style

Even better, sprout the sesame seeds and sunflower seeds for lots more nutrition and to dramatically improve their digestibility, and at the very least soak the nuts if not sprout them. Unsprouted seeds and nuts are a burden on the digestive system and inhibit your absorption of many minerals due to enzyme and nutrient inhibitors.
Even nuts labeled "raw" are frequently still pasteurized or treated with chemicals to sterilize them, make sure that the nuts you are getting are truly raw. A law was passed that requires all almonds in the US to be sterilized, so as far as I know you can't get raw almonds in the US unless you get them straight from a farm.

Yes. Of course, it's less about them being idiots as it is about specific interests not wanting anyone to be able to grow their own almonds...
I wish I could get raw almonds.

Good news:
On the Azure Standard website they say this about their almonds:
"Due to California laws, the "raw" almonds (listed above) have been subjected to a "flash" steam pasteurization process. Although "pasteurized," these almonds still have the taste and texture of raw almonds and will still sprout."
^ My emphasis.
If they'll still sprout then how bad can they be? I guess if you get almonds from a sprouting website then they would still be viable, too.

thanx lf . i joined azure but they dont deliver here in metro detroit . guess i'll check costs of normal shipping from their area

I had the same issues early on and found the same solution: more fat.
I see a lot of folks try to eat just fruit or just veggies and they run into this issue.
Fat is a sort of "bad word" so people try to avoid it, I think. The truth is that only some fats are bad: animal fats, soy bean oil, cottonseed oil, peanut oil etc. The fats we eat (avocados, nuts, seeds) are all good for us, improve our health and keep us full.
That being said, I notice if I lead an active lifestyle full of running, sports and various other cardio activities, my body wants fruit. Also, when I am active, my desire to eat is drastically reduced. So I don't eat much when I am active and when I do it's mainly fruit, but I try to get some greens in there too.
When I am sedentary, though, fats keep me full.
