View Full Version : What's up with menstruation cycles when you're raw?

Been raw since February. Ever since then, I have had zero period cramps, and none of the other pre-period side effects (which also means I have no idea when I'm going to get it.) Anyway, I've read lots of posts all over the internet about people who went raw and had their periods lighten up a lot. The last normal one I had was the end of June. Then I had 2 times where, over the course of 2 days or so, there were a couple of random bloody discharges, but it was light enough that I could just wipe and that was it. I figured maybe it was finally improving and that was all I'd have! That happy thought kind of vanished when I got it again this week - and it's been terrible! There were no cramps or anything like that, but it was way heavier than the normal ones on SAD. Why is this?? Isn't it supposed to get better when you're raw for that long? By the way, I've been high raw since February, with some 100% days mixed in. I eat very little processed food.

No cramps? Sounds "better" to me!!! "That long?" You've barely just begun. When I was bleeding I'm be so thrilled when I didn't have cramps ....

It is a lot better in that respect, that's for sure. That in itself is awesome. I just can't understand why it's all of a sudden so much heavier? I haven't been eating tons of cooked food this month or anything like that. A little more than normal, but still all veggies and I'm still probably 75% raw.

I wonder if ovarian cysts would be affected by raw food....by that I mean that I get them (I have PCOS) and so I am on continuous birth control pills. I would like to go off of them, but I have always ended up in the hospital in the past.
Does anyone have experience with raw food and the healing of ovarian cysts/PCOS???
Thanks!

Have you increased the amount of soy product at all? Typically I mean miso I think as this affects my cycle negatively. Otherwise I think we are still likely to get the odd one which is worse than others. Mine is much better generally even when I throw a few or more than a few non-raw days in the mix and they settle down again much better when I go back on raw. See what happens next time.

Let's see... I was eating soy-based yogurt a few times a week the past month or so, but I stopped eating them completely about a week ago. Would that affect it?

Yeah, that might affect it. Many people are prone to estrogen-dominance, and soy can definitely influence that. Cut back on the soy and see what happens next month :)

Will do! Is soy the only thing that affects it like that?

I think Flax seed is also supposed to promote Estrogen dominance, but don't quote me on that :)
