Just a suggestion: how about moderating new member's posts until they reach a certain number like 10. This would IMO remove the spam as well as the incentive for people to spam the forum.

I always wonder if anybody ever falls for this spam? Even if they linked to an amazing deal on a product or service I wanted, I would not buy from spammers because I don't want to encourage them!

I just moderate.. I don't make the big calls on all that. I am hopeful that somethings will change soon to help us moderaters :)

The nice thing is most of the recent stuff has been so easy to spot that I don't even click on it. So it has little effect on me.

Do they have it set up so that it is quick and easy to delete the obvious spam? I help to moderate a theology forum and we used to have a lot to do but the owner set up some sort of automatic spam catcher and people who drop links on their first several posts never see the light of day. It is pretty fabulous!

Its not too bad. Just a few clicks and the spam is gone. Its just a little crazy when there is soooooo much spam right now. Oh well.. I think if the powers that be implement some changes, it will help. Hopefully soon :)
And the spam is really easy to spot right now.. Plus, I know everyones names so well, I can spot the spam by just the name most of the time :)
I'm glad its not bothering everyone too much!

I don't know.. Its really crazy.. I've never seen it this bad. I'm asking Aleesha to see if our computer guy can do anything to help.

Another option would be to have new members fill out an application. If everyone was asked to write a paragraph why they want to join the forum, it would quickly weed out the spam bots. The spam is only a problem because registration is completely open.
