I have looked into Gabriel Cousen's and Ann Wigmore's retreats and the prices seem way too high. Arent they growing their own produce, the housing is definately not 5 star (I wouldn't need that anyway)
Your thoughts please!!

How about rule #1 of business -- charge as much as the market will bear. So long as they have booked classes with people willing to pay high prices, then they will charge high prices. Now, if there were hundreds of high-ranking raw food retreats, then prices would surely drop...

First of all, you picked two of the most high priced. Are they growing their own produce? I don't know. I'm pretty sure they're paying someone to do that; paying for the water; the nutrients, etc. It's not inexpensive to grow your own. They have people working for them doing other things who have to be paid a living wage. They have utilities to pay for. If they're providing beds and linens, those have to be cleaned as do the rooms, 5-star or not. Is someone making the food there? They've got to be paid.
I don't know what their expenses are...I don't know how much Gabriel or any other administrators need ... yet for me, if something really makes a difference in my life/health, it's priceless.

I think the answer is because it is their business. I'm sure there are raw retreats that cost less.

If they are providing any sort of medical advise or intervention they would have a high insurance cost. If you asked them about this they would also tell you that they care for some at a very reduced cost and they have to make up for that by charging a lot to those who can afford it (Robin Hood style).

That's our life in the world of greed. Maybe we will be the change.

It's called making enough to thrive. People are funny to me. They want to make money, enough to have what they want yet, they don't think others should. I've had people tell me I "should" give my (healing) work away yet they don't tell me how I'm supposed to pay my bills doing that. Money is an energy exchange. It's only "expensive" to those who are not creating enough to get them what they say they want. As one person told me many years ago ~ "Don't have enough money? Make more."
