Orange Creme Smoothie

1/2 cantelope
3 oranges juiced
4 oz agave

Instructions: Blend all ingredients in a blender until smooth. You may have to adjust the agave to your own sweetness level. It is important to make this smoothie very sweet. It actually taste like "Orange Creme" filling in those famous hard orange candies from Brochs with the soft center.

That looks nice. I'll have to try it. One thing, do you blend the rind of the cantaloupe, too? I also don't have a juicer, so can I just peel the oranges and stick'em in that way?

jenna rose, thanks for your reply.

You do not blend the rind. The cantelope is to give texture and creaminess to the recipe, that is its only purpose. It also contributes to a nice orange cream color. As far as juicing, even though I have a juicer, I still juice oranges the old fashion way. I cut them in half and then I twist them on a juicer with a bowl beneath to catch the juice. You can pick them up real cheap any place kitchenware is sold.

If you want to make do with your blender, you can just peal the orange and cut it up into slices removing the seeds and then just toss that in. I have half a cantelope in the freezer now freezing so I can have a "Orange Creme Smoothie" later today.

That looks yummy. Although I don't have agave on hand, would honey work as a sub?

Sure, honey would work. Dates blended would work also, but it would take away from the nice orange cream color.

I want that nice orange color! Makes the drink! :)
I'll try it w/ honey. I have dates, but don't want to take away the authentic color.

Thanks!

I just made this and it tastes AWESOME!
If you have the stuff to make this, do it. It is so good.

My daughter got what would not fit in my cup! She loves it too!

Thanks for posting this recipe! Yummy, yummy!! :D

vegggeeemom...try liquid stevia for sweetness

Can someone provide a link to purchase raw stevia extract. The only stuff we have at our health food store is the powdered stuff. I was told it is heated beyond the critical point, so I won't use it. I would like to know where to purchase the 100% raw stevia extract if possible.

Also, the powdered stuff I have tried has a bitter aftertaste. Am I the only one who has experienced this?

Definitely gonna try this, thanks for sharing SamuelWilson. I'm not that crazy about canteloupe, but love orange, so I think this might be a great way to get canteloupe in. :) The ingredients don't say "frozen" canteloupe, but I noticed you said you had canteloupe freezing to get ready to make this, so it needs to be frozen first?

Oh, almost forgot... Samuel I have the stevia powder, and I also think it has a bittery aftertaste, so you're not alone. I have found that it is best used in addition to other sweeteners. For example, if a recipe calls for 1/4 cup agave or honey, you can get away with 2 tbsp honey/agave and 2 packets stevia (or equivalent stevia extract). Worked great last time I did this with a shake recipe, and didn't have any aftertaste. :)

To make the Orange Creme Smoothie, the cantelope does not need to be frozen. However, it taste better if you freeze it. It comes out more like an ice cream drink instead.

I just know that a lot of people want to make the recipes and eat or drink them right now. They don't want to have to freeze or dehydrate anything, this is why I leave the option open.

I was at the grocery store yesterday looking at the cantelope thinking about what I wanted it for. Couldn't remember for the life of me. I'll just have to go back today and get one LOL.

SamuelWilson,

Great big happy thoughts your way! I can't seem to get enough of this orange cream drink! If there is anyone who has not tried it yet or (like my dh) thinks you don't like cantelope.... you HAVE to try it! My dh said he did not like cantelope and then said OH, but that is yummy!!! This is my favorite treat so far!!! :D

Great, I am glad everyone liked it. The key is to make sure you add enough juiced oranges and that you sweeten it enough. If you do that, the cantelope ends up contributing the creamy taste with out an overpowering cantelope taste. I personally like cantelope, but everyone who has tried my orange creme smoothing has liked it, even people who do not prefer cantelope.

I made it but it ended up having too much of a bitter aftertaste. I think it was from the oranges. I just peeled them and stuck them in, didn't juice them first. I'm going to try making it again but do a better of getting all the extra stuff off the oranges.

*melt*

I finally tried the smoothie and it's got to be one of the tastiest I've ever had. My parents loved it - and my kids asked "did you make more?"

It's amazing how much it tastes like an orange julius!

I only added about half as much agave as it asked for and it was perfect.

Samuel Wilson - you rawk!

Walkin'onWater, I am glad you liked it. I get a little carried away with agave and cayenne (my 2 favorite condiments).

I am always experimenting looking for something new. I only post my successful recipes on here. When I tried the cantelope and orange I realized I had discovered something good.

I did make this a second time, but hand juiced the oranges instead of just adding them in after I peeled them. Very tasty. yum yum yum.

I poured a little glass for my father to try. He liked it.
I poured a little glass for my brother to try. "Hey, make me one!"

And these are both SAD eaters, they were really surprised how little ingredients went into it.

jenna rose, I am glad it worked out for you. Raw food can save the lives of your loved ones. So by finding something vegan and raw that they are willing to eat or drink, you have extended their life spans.

Add me to the list of Orange Creme Smoothie fans! Wow, this is so delicious!

Thank you SamuelWilson for sharing this recipe with us. I took a picture so I hope the color will show as I did use 2 dates instead of the agave and it still had a beautiful orange color.

I finally tried this and it is delicious. Next time I'll use a little less agave but otherwise it was fantastic. I finally have something my kids love too LOL. Thanks Samuel.

Wow!! I just now finally made this smoothie and it turned out soooooo delicious! My oranges and canteloupe were very sweet so I didn't need to add as much of the agave. My son (the pickiest eater!) loved it too! Yay! As did my husband. So this is a recipe that is very family freindly. :)

I know this post is a fairly old post, but I wanted to let people know that this smoothie is very good! :)

Take care,
Jocelyn

Thanks for the recipe. I will try when I get my hands on a cantaloupe! Now, for the sweet question: where do you buy agave nectar? Haven't seen any at my healthfood store (which is well stocked.)

Thanks,

Maria

I had to bring this one back to the top for anyone who hasn't tried it yet. I just finished a huge glass full for part of my dinner tonight and yum! I just used the orange juice and cantaloupe and without the added sweetener it was still oh so good!

this looks delicious but aren't melons suppose to only be eaten with melons?
