View Full Version : Sinus Infection?

Hello all. I think I'm suffering from a sinus infection. It could be my body still trying to rid itself of my life of dairy and meat before. Its been 2 months since I changed cold turkey from an organic, 'healthy' diet, to a organic raw diet. Its been 2 weeks. I have sinus pain, eye pain, loads of yucky green stuff coming from my nose... headaches, ears are starting to hurt. I'm getting desperate. My lymph nodes under my jaw are marbles. I need help. I'm trying to stay away from the doc, but can you get rid of an infection holistically???

I'm eating 95% raw, and when its not raw its lightly warmed, or a bowl of brown rice. I'm getting loads of greens, try to eat them with every meal. Green drink in the morning, green juice at night. Neti pot twice a day. I tried the neti poti with a couple of drops of ACV and Aloe, warm water... once a day... then with neti salt once a day. I heard that oil of oregano is good as a natural antibiotic.

Please help! Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

I'd take a bit of ibuprofen and drink hot teas made with:
1) shredded ginger and piping hot water
2) freshly squeezed lemon juice + honey and piping hot water

If that doesn't give you any relief, go see a doctor.

I currently have one. My son was sick for a week with one and then went on anti-biotics. I was really hoping I wouldn't get it from him, but I eventually did. His time down with it was 2 weeks. He is a SAD eater! I am raw. I am now in my 4th day since first symptom and I am getting better, with no AB! I have been juicing tons and resting lots. I definitely have an infection, but I believe that if we give our bodies what they need in terms of nutrients then our bodies will heal! I am a testament to that!!!

What worked for me when my old ways wouldn't work (rife, garlic every couple hours), was to go get a colon hydro therapy. I had blood that came up, i am talking about pouring almost. Right after the treatment, it stopped. I also found out about oregano oil and it was amazing. I smelled the oil, and it helps to disinfect my lungs and sinus. I also took it with raw coconut oil. You can buy fresh oregano and make a green smoothie with it.

Hope you feel well soon!

I had a sinus infection a few years ago. It was so bad. I did not want to do the antibiotic thing either. I took fresh garlic every few hours with lots of raw/fresh juices. I also took grapefruit seed extract and echinacia tea. With lots of rest, it lasted about 5 days.

Good luck.

I have sinus from a past few years but it hadn't caused me much trouble ever as I always took a precautionary measure... I always take a crushed clove of garlic mixed a spoonful of honey... and take notice of the fact that garlic shouldn't be more than one or two cloves.

I'm with GoodCat..... Garlic internally but I snort GSE ~ Yup! Dilute it well though.... say, 2-3 drops in about 4-6 ounces of water and snort it on up the snoz! I NEVER use drugs or, unless something is broken (and I can't fix it), go to a doctor. Let's see, that would be 32 years now?

I'm with Rev on this one. I use the GSE in my neti pot.

Hayfever has been bad for lots of people this year, including people who never suffered it before. It started early and in areas not normally affected so bad by it. It's my guess that if it strikes and a persons sinus' or their mucosal defense is down to begin with, say from dairy, physiological anomalies (restricted sinus drains), or living in dusty or moldy conditions, the sinus drainage cannot not freely leave the sinus and leads to infection.

PH being off, and dehydration can lead to sinus trouble because of how it disturbs the mucosal defense.

Thanks Walnutty! I will start more regular use of it. I've just been using as needed for digestive aid but will try daily again.

You're welcome!

I take 2 oz. on an empty stomach when I first wake up. Then I drink a ton of water. Good luck!

I know this has been a while, but I wanted to ask. What is GSE? I might know what it is, but maybe never heard the abbreviation? I was doing some ACV in my neti pot, but is what helped the most, but I ended up going on antibiotics in the end. I was schedule to take a 13 hour flight andidn't want to risk still being sick and having to deal with all the pressure changes of flying. Thanks for your help!!

I know this has been a while, but I wanted to ask. What is GSE?

GSE is Grapefruit Seed Extract (don't confuse that with Grapeseed Extract).

Regarding your recurrent sinus infection, please see my reply to your root canal post (I replied to the Root Canal thread before I'd even seen this thread on Sinus Infection).

It's no good just throwing an arsenal of antibiotics (be they natural or pharmaceutical) at your infection without first trying to understand WHY it may be recurring.

Clearly, there is a ready source of bacteria giving rise to the infection.

Clearly, your immune system is struggling to fight this infection.

In light of your post on your dental issue, I suspect there is a fairly high chance that your sinus infection may in fact be related to the dental issue. Dental issues are very well-documented to be PROFUSE sources of highly pathogenic bacteria. OK, the sinus infection might not be related to the dental issue, but it's quite a coincidence, really, so it's well worth while giving due consideration to.

So, there is the possibility that there may simply be so much bacteria being produced that that may be why your immune system is struggling, but it might additionally be that something is suppressing your immune function - see my reply to your root canal post for more on this.

Again, let me stress that you need to get to the bottom of these issues if you are to have any hope of overcoming the recurrent infection. Just chucking a shelf-full of natural antibiotic substances at the infection is a hit-&-miss, and very inefficient approach to rectifying the infection.

All the best

I think it is Grapefruit Seed Extract.

If you take prescription medications be very careful using grapefruit seed extract. Some prescription medications react with grapefruit juice, grapefruits and grapefruit seed extract.

Believe me, I learned the hard way!

Hehe, yes, grapefruit (the naringenin component of) can slow phase-2 liver metabolism - not good if you're on statins (but then statins are APPALLINGLY bad for your health, anyway, and do nothing to promote good cardiovascular health). If you look on the patient leaflet for simvastatin, for example, it clearly states that patients must avoid consuming grapefruit. Satins basically incapacitate certain liver enzymes in the liver, responsible for synthesizing cholesterol. Incapacitate liver enzymes to benefit the heart? RIIIIIGHT........

I know, from my job, that quite a few psychiatric medications also don't jive well with grapefruit; again because they are stressful to the liver and require good phase-2 metabolism in order to not become dangerously toxic to the patient.

I'm sorry you had to learn about naringenin the hard way!

Thankfully, I figured it out pretty quick. I was really, really tired and then remembered that grapefruit can affect the metabolism (slow the metabolism) of some RX's. My bottle didn't state any precautions regarding grapefruit (BAD), but when I called a pharmacist I was told about it. I stopped taking GSE immediately!

My simple sinus cures.
1. Apple Cider Vinager drink with honey and water. Or just water, it kicks it pretty quick for me when I start feeling stuffy.
2. Saline spray. Lie with your head upside down from your bed. Squirt that saline and let it drain down into your sinus cavity. GET UP SLOWLY. Feel it drain and the relief. Might be a little painful depending on how clogged you are.

Good luck feel better.

What do you use to spray saline and what %saline do you use?

I buy the spray called OCEAN spray or the generic that's beside it. You can usually get them pretty cheap in the U.S.

I saw a yoga lady that used an eye dropper. Her dilution was 8 oz to 1 tablespoon of sea salt.

I think I prefer the idea of the eye dropper. How much should one use at a time?

Since a child we always just cupped salt water in our hand and inhaled it up our nose. It worked.....didn't need anything fancy. There is another helpful spray called Xlear with xylitol in it. It is a natural sugar that even our bodies produce, and if I rmember right it works by not allowing bactreria to adhere to the mucosal lining so well. I have a larger bottle tjhat comes with a pump mechanism and little travel one that you squeeze for a mist shot. They've been getting regular use with hayfever.
